How's trix, everyone?? :D Yet more rainy weather here - I feel like I live in Seattle.

We were going to head to Troy to shop today but I couldn't get all our ducks in a row. So, we're just going to hang around here and take care of a few errands. Tomorrow we have NO PLANS. I'm already bored!!

Last night we went out to dinner with a huge group and were the loudest in the restaurant . . . we had fun but I'll bet the other patrons were hurrying through their desserts. Actually the guys were loud and us wives were shushing shushing shushing. :D :D

Monday the kids go back to school. Back to the normal routine. Too bad we didn't have snow to play in while they were off.

Good morning to all who follow me!

Mornin' Debie! Sorry you didn't get a chance to make it out this way to shop. I'm feeling the itch to go myself, but I've got too much stuff to do around here today. I've been salivating over a J. Jill catalog that came in the other day - I might just have to make a quick trip over to 12 Oaks..... ;)

It's mild and rainy here too, which to be honest, is just fine with me. I know it's tough on the folks who like to ski (and depend on it for income), but it could stay like this through April and I'd be fine with it. :)

Six weeks from tomorrow I'm off to sunny Mexico. The countdown has begun!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Good morning all! Yesterday it was in the high 70s here in Austin and today we have already reached our high of 50, and that was at midnight! It's not supposed to get out of the 40s today. As the saying goes...if you don't like Texas weather, stick around for five minutes it will change!

I am hosting a brunch for about 10 friends this morning. And what is so unusual is that I am all ready and there is still an hour to go! That is quite a feat for me! I am serving the Savory Breakfast Strata from SSTR, Asparagus Vinagairette, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, assorted mini scones from Central Market, and of course, the most important, mimosas and poinsettias (mimosas made with pomegranate juice instead of orange.) I hope it will be fun. The ladies who are coming are all moms of DS's friends. Now that DS and his friends have all gone to college, I rarely see these ladies, so I thought it would be fun to get together.

After that, I plan to relax and finish putting away the rest of the Christmas decorations. Everything has come down, but all the boxes have yet to be put away.

Happy Saturday everyone!

I'm glad to see that you have found ways to cope with the 'empty nest!'

Today is bright and sunny, with highs expected in the mid-60's. Would I be showered with rocks if I said I wanted it to be a little colder? I'd really like to be able to wear my collection of sweatshirts without having to overheat... always a problem for me.:( :o :p However, I am happy to have the sunshine! And no snow!

Today is lunch and dinner with the fire dept. folks: then, I hope to be able to finish up my office organization and knit, knit, knit!!!!;)

Happy day, everyone!:)

'morning, all! It's a bright and sunny day so far, probably in the low 50s, but it's only 9:30. DBF has to go to the office this morning for the day. Boo-hoo, I would have scheduled my Petaluma "mom" day for today, had I known (I typically go up on Sundays). On the other hand, his office is right near the Fossil store, so I'm going to ask him (thanks, Debie!) if he has time to go in and pick up that purse for me. :) If not, I guess I'll drag my bones downtown and get it myself (OMG, it's less than a mile! Sounds like I've got to hitch up the team and sleigh and make provisions for the journey!).

One of my favorite things about Saturday is that it's the one day of the week I can really plan out a full dinner without having to play that "what time do you think you'll be home?" thing, which never works out. Also, plenty o' time to cook and shop. Now, what to make.... Oh, oh! This might be a good day to head down to the farmers market and see what looks irresistable!

Canice - did you get your purse???

Romandub - your bruch sounds like so much fun!! Hope it was.

LakeMartin - I'd share cold with you if we had any.

Sandy - I'm trying to get to your side of the state very soon. I'll let you know.

Well, yesterday we ended up at our local mall Dell Kiosk and I ordered my laptop (graduation present!). Yay!!!! :D :D My hubby is the best. I can't brag on him enough.

Today (lucky me) I have to wake the boys up early to get them prepped for school tomorrow. You know, make sure they're tired for a regular bedtime. :D We need to look at furniture for Rob's bedroom, and I'd like to get to the gym. And my nose is running. Darn sinuses.

Hi, all! It sounds like everyone had pleasant Saturdays! We had a mellow one, which was great after our week back to school and work. That week was decidedly not mellow.:D

Debie, I'm glad you got your laptop! Great gift idea...how are you enjoying being DONE? Will you start subbing?

Sandy, I'm with you on the weather. I like snow, but this mildness suits me as well. It's just easier! I had the same "Seattle" thought this weekend when it was raining...

Debie, if you do get a chance to head to this side of the state, I'd be glad to see you, too!:D

I wanted to cross-post here to let you all know about this new cookbook. I had the chance to meet the author online and test out some recipes for her - a cool and interesting experience. The thread got a little hijacked, but I thought you might want to see it. It's below, on the Great Food board.

Enjoy Sunday, everyone! We have plans to do home projects and I have to grade some papers...but plan to do some reading for fun, as well. :)

Laurie, I'd love to see you too!!! I need to go to Somerset, but not for a major shop, just a drop in at Nordstrom and Saks. Then I need to make a Trader Joes/Whole Foods shop. I'll let you know!!

I am not subbing yet - the college has not yet released our diplomas. They are doing it in alphabetical order, so I'm thinking that mine will be coming in the mail soon. I can't tell you how ticked I am about this. We graduated on 12/8, grades were in by 12/12 . . . . WTH???? Grrrrr.

:) Well, truth be told, I would probably have as much fun at the food stores as at Somerset! Sadly, I don't seem to have the shopping/trend-watcher gene. But I'd go along for the mall ride and perhaps learn something!:D

I'd be frustrated, too, about the diploma delay. I'm sure you'll be busy enough soon, so perhaps this can be the extended break for you? There's something to be said for being in your home alone while everyone else is at school/work...I often think that on my days off, when I choose to be at home rather than run a bunch of errands. (Of course, this is a sentiment best not shared with the rest of my family as they head off to school/work...:) )

Well, I do like the break but I'm getting pretty tired of my own company!!! Next week I'll get back to my volunteering and I'm going to get involved in the play that Patrick has a part in (probably just coordinating tickets sales or something).

I'll let you know if I get over that way this coming weekend. I won't be in the mall too long, I plan to spend most of my trip doing "foodie" things. :D

It's almost time for me to pack up mom's groceries and head up north for my weekly lunch/visit/errands with her before coming home for soup-making. Sometimes it's a bummer knowing I can't do anything else on Sundays, but oh well!

Debie, you might appreciate this: DBF had to be at his office downtown yesterday morning and said he was going to pick up a pair of shoes first, so I asked him to go into the Fossil store and see if they had the bag. I loved his report back: He goes into the store, where there are a bunch of employees lounging around the counter, yakking. Finally he says, "Can someone help me?" One guy shouts at a passing employee, "Do we have this bag?" and waves the print-out I'd so helpfully provided. Guy answers, "I'm on break." and keeps walking. Finally, the poor, put-upon counter guy tears himself away from his conversation to look on a shelf and prounounce the product out of stock. (Later, I passed a Macy's and their Fossil collection was pretty well picked over, but I saw a pretty nice Kenneth Cole bag at Nordstrom for a few dollars less; should have just gotten that one!). Now I've opened up chapter II of my purse search  .

That stinks, Debbie. Here in wonderful Indiana, one can sub with 30 hrs of college credit.

Statewide in Michigan you can as well, but districts are allowed to set their own requirements as well, as long as it's at least X number of hours.

Our local ISD requires a valid teaching certificate for substitutes. For which they pay a whopping $75 per day. :( Not going to get rich subbing, that's for sure.

Ouch! I make more than that coaching ($100 per day). Of course I earned every penny yesterday durning our first race. My kids were troopers but it got really cold and windy for the second run. It was so cold that I wouldn't let my guys strip down to their speed suits. They were disappointed but I think they understood. One of my kids had his bib under his jacket since he was wearing spead suit. When I told him we weren't going to take of coat and pants he got very worried about the bib and thought I was just going to leave his coat open. His response "But it will slow me down!" :D :D And this is the kid that says he only races because it's "something to do". :p
