For the Seattle area, another wind AND snow storm is predicted for later today and tonight. We NEVER have weather like this.....

I just got back inside from dragging my garbage cans into the garage as the cans had blown down into the the street. It is just crazy outside...super windy and rainy.

Anybody in Phoenix that would like a nice family to visit them for a few days:D ????

Yep, round 4 is going to hit Denver starting Thursday, I'm guessing it's what you are getting now. Yesterday we had gusts in the metro area up to 115mph! It caused a ground blizzard from all the blowing snow. I'm resigned to having to drive to the mountains on crappy roads and to the knowledge that I'll likely have at least one flat due to potholes this winter. :(

Try to stay warm and don't blow away!

Thanks Robyn!

What is really serious is that my Dad has a Spanish tile roof and tiles have broken or blown off with the last 2 storms. He needs a "specialist" to fix his roof due to the tiles and he can't get anyone to come out for a month or two because EVERYONE needs their roofs fixed right now. So parts of his house are exposed to the elements and with high winds a tarp isn't very useful.

On Sunday, DH's parents had a 100 foot tree crash onto their roof above their family and dining room. They have tarped it and were to have workers out today and thru the weekend replacing the roof - that will be impossible if it snows and not sure about rain.

Sheesh, yesterday on Talk of the Nation they were talking to people back East who were sunbathing in Central Park over the weekend, and to an ice-cream shop owner in D.C. who said he was doing the kind of business he's accustom to having in June! A tow-truck operator in Connecticut who was losing his high season for tows, and a golf course operator in Wisconsin who fully operational.

These storms are creating so much havoc, can't mother nature stop for a bit, please? I'm sorry to year about your dad's house!

Canice, on the flip side Frontier Airlines lost $11 million during the first blizzard, countless businesses have had to close for 1 or more days, loosing business and/or work time and the cities, counties, and the state who are responsible for snow removal have a gigantic cost in front of them.

It sure would be nice if we could even it out a bit.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting it's good at ALL - just odd.

I'm with you, just pointing out the economic cost here in Colorado. I didn't mention the ranchers etc. The only people happy are the ski resorts (bookings are way up) and maybe the tow truck drivers.

We are still recovering from the last wind storm!! We need to repair the damage from the 80 foot tree that hit our house, trying to find a contractor when they are all just a tad busy with every other person that had a tree hit their house. And we will have to move out while they replace the trusses, so what, so we go to a hotel room for a month with 3 kids and a dog?! Help! Plus we have a 100 foot tree leaning precariously toward our house, which has my 6yo, who already lost his room to the last tree, flipping out about another tree hitting us. And no school again tomorrow? No thanks-I am done with having my kids home. Ackk!

So we need some No wind, No snow, Yes school vibes this way!

Oh, Jellyben, your poor DS, I can imagine that is frightening for him.

And here in Central Canada, the ski resorts are suffering big time -- one laid off over a thousand people recently, and even the mainstays like Tremblant are nothing like they would normally be this time of year. Certain winter carnivals are in jeopardy too. It's been ridiculously balmy. Today we have seasonal January weather and everyone feels cold since we're not acclimatized!

As Canice says, it's all so odd...

Hang in there, those in CO, WA, and anyone else with wild and wacky weather!

Be careful with those trash cans! DH was on call last weekend and had TWO older women who were trying to take in their garbage cans, but the wind was so strong it blew up the lids, knocked them over, and they broke their hips. What are the odds?

And every day he asks when the tree guy is coming to take it down, and I can't even get a tree guy to return my calls!

I am not surprised....It was so windy outside I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz right before the tornado hit!! BTW, our garbage cans come from Waste Mgmt and they are extremely heavy (especially the yard waste can) so I can totally see how someone could become injured.

Yes, my FIL was just saying yesterday that a lot of contractors are NOT returning calls at this point because they just don't have time....too bad they don't put that on their voicemails.

Jellyben, don't even get me started on the topic of missed school....REALLY tired of that!!

the only good news I can add to this conversation is that it's 4:10 pm and so far the power is still on. it's been windy but not that bad, and isn't snowing yet!. We had another power out last weekend although only for maybe 10-12 hours. we have been abused by mother nature this year and I'm really getting tired of it, and we haven't even had any damage. My sympathies for those of you with leaning trees, holes in the roof , and kids out of schooletc. This has been an awful year!

Yes, it's so odd; it's been downright balmy here. 2006 was the warmest year on record in Maine. None of the lakes are frozen and it was 62 degrees on Saturday!

Have to agree about the weather. It sure was wet and windy this afternoon. Tonight I put on the outside lights to discover a light dusting of "SNOW" on the ground
