A couple days ago I did a quick hem job in the morning for DP. I was in a huge hurry to get her off to work on time as well as myself. When I came home, there was a huge mess when I walked in. Let's just call it the canine refuse sampler platter. I don't know which dog did it, I have two. Today I went looking for my pin cushion and have been unable to find it. The only thing I did find was the little pepper like appendage, chewed to bits. I know which dog did this.
She has not been acting strangely. She is eating and eliminating well and playful as ever. But, I still can't find the big piece of the pin cushion - with the pins in it. The only logical explanation is that she ate it. But, nothing has come out of her to imply that this is the case, but there are no tell tale scraps around either.
Should I take her to the vet just in case? I really can't afford it, but, I don't want to put her in danger, either. What would you do? If she did eat it, it was on Tuesday.

I'm sorry about this!
I'd just call the vet and explain what you *think* happened, how she's doing now, etc. to be safe. They may tell you not to worry but at least you checked.

Many years ago, Gertie somehow swiped one of those little sewing kits you get from hotels. It was wrapped in plastic and in a plastic case with a sliding lid. We found the plastic case, wrapper, and needles and thread- but not ALL of the needles and thread. We looked everywhere but came up two needles short.
We called our vet, who asked if Gertie had any scratches or bleeding in and around her mouth, if she appeared to be in pain, if she'd been having problems pooping, if she'd vomited. The answer to all of these questions was no, so the vet asked us to monitor her for 24 hours and call back. She was fine, and so she didn't end up needing to actually see the vet. No clue where the needles ended up.
I'd call the vet, explain what happened, and ask their advice. That shouldn't cost anything and might help you get a better idea of what's involved.

Thanks gertdog and susanpc. After determined searching, I found the remnants of the tomato under the cats' bed. There were a few pins stuck in it still, and I've spent the better part of my morning crawling all over the downstairs to pick up pins. When I called the vet, they asked how many pins were in the cusion to begin with and to count what comes out of her if anything. So, this raises some questions.
Do people routinely know how many pins are in their pin cushions? Is it bizarre that I thought this a ridiculous question?
I'm going to be finding these things for weeks. From the scatter pattern, and knowing my little Nut, the cushion was shaken vigorously before it finally succumbed to my canine's canines.

You mean you DON'T? LOL, totally kidding. Your question made me laugh! Glad your dog is exhibiting no ill signs - I would think it would by now after 3 days so hopefully it's out of the woods!

Let's see, there are 58 in my red pin cushion and precisely 41 in my blue pin cushion. Now, that's not counting needles. If we're counting needles, the totals change to 61 and 43, respectively. :D
Sheesh. I'm glad your pooch is feeling okay.
