X post: Fox & Obel

DH and I were have and extended conversation with a friend yesterday. We were talking about premium food stores -- not sure you can call them "grocery stores." Zingerman's, Dean & DeLuca, Central Market, Andronico's, Balducci, Petrini's and some local stores were all being talked about and compared. One I had never heard of (in spite of cousins who used to live in Chicago) was Fox &Obel. I think they were in Chicago. Anyone here know more about them?

I stopped in there once while on a daytrip in Chicago. It is a very, very nice upscale (think $$$$) store. I have never been in any of the others you mentioned, so I can't compare them. Lots of gourmet ingredients, cheeses, a ready made food counter to die for, and they have a small cafe also. I didn't spend too much time, because I couldn't even buy anything as we were walking/taking the train that day, so I couldn't haul anything back. Definitely worth going to, even if just for the fun of looking, IMHO.
