View Full Version : Anyone use slat-wall to organize?
We are moving soon into a home with a very small 2-car garage, and would like to install a slat-wall system to store our garage stuff. I was looking online and found Garage Tek, which is only available through authorized distributors, and Suncast Slat-Wall which is available at Menards and Ace Hardware. I'm guessing the Suncast will be cheaper, but am wondering if anyone has experience with either of these, and if the quality and accessory options are good, and if the installation is easy or difficult.

I don't even know what a slat-wall system is:o but I just wanted to say "hi" to another east central Illinois person! I live in Savoy.
Hello! I've seen your posts before, and wondered just where 'Little House on the Prairie' was. Now I know! We used to live in Savoy. But we are getting ready to move to the Milwaukee, WI area.

I don't have personal home experience with slat-wall systems, but I would think that all the systems are pretty similar. The difference in price that you may be paying for would be in the composite of the wall material itself. My experience with slat-walls is in the retail arena where I worked with several different kinds of materials. The best one I worked with was slat wall in which the grooves on the wall were lined with an alloy/alluminum material and made the wall very sturdy. The worst one was not lined, and if you hung up something too heavy, that flat hook would pull at the fiber/press-board material and eventually tear it out.
Since you're looking to install in the garage, where heavier objects may be hung, I would look to see if any of the systems are lined or are made of a sturdier material than a press-board. You could also do some searching around and see if you can find a retail supplier if you felt ambitious.
I would also think that the accessories for each would be interchangeable- I can't imagine that they'd be that different, so you could look into that as well.
Welcome to the state!
