Ok we’re at the end of January, and it decided to be winter again:rolleyes: Cold and a little snow up here, but not so severe that it’s miserable. Anyway, I did take a rest day on Friday and then hit it again on Saturday. I did upper body on Saturday and Lower body on Sunday. Both days I also did trunk work and treadmill followed by a Cathe stretch. Then I went upstairs and did the alternating ice and heat thing on my back. I’m still moving today so that’s a positive:) . On Saturday it took me 2:50 and on Sunday it took me 3 hours. Both days the treadmill came up to 86 minutes so I think I have that part of it dialed in. Eating was slightly out of control but not horrific – just craving something sweet.

DM had surgery on her elbow on Friday and is down to one arm so DF is helping her with some things. Good thing they didn’t get a boatload of snow. She says she doesn’t go back until Friday to have the bandages taken off and start PT. Fingers crossed that all goes well with that. DH is still weak but I think helping DM is helping his attitude a bit because he sounded perkier on Sunday:D . Just feeling needed is an amazing medication, isn’t it?

Sleeping all day on Friday helped DH and he is doing much better. Hopefully I won’t get what ever bug he had.

Well ladies it’s the start of another wonderful week and today is upper body work again. Good thing as my hips are so sore from yesterday. Still working on going up and down stair properly~ do you think I’ll ever get it right? So what’s on tap for everyone? Wishing you all a successful week.

Engineer, glad to hear the surgery went well. I'm sure it's nice for your dad to feel he his helping your mom since she's been doing so much for him. Hope her PT goes well. I can't believe you workout for almost 3 hours! That's more than most people do in a week! Great job!

I took rest days both Saturday and Sunday. Stepped on the scale this morning. Scary. I'm back to doing weight watchers online. Did Cathe's Step, Jump and Pump this morning. That really is a fun video. Not sure about tomorrow yet, maybe Imax2.

Kind of a quiet weekend. Two soccer games (both sons scored goals, yea!!) and some cleaning. Taking my "princess" to see Disney Princesses on Ice tomorrow night. It'll be a fun girls night out. She's very excited.

Uhhh that 3 hours/week has been me lately!!!

Engineer - so glad DM surgery went well and that Tubby is doing better. Will be thinking good thoughts for all around you! Also glad that Scott is feeling better too!! You are absolutely amazing. I don't know how you exercise that long!!!!

Joanne - yee haw for the soccer goals!! Indoor soccer I'm assuming?:D Your night sounded super crazy - good job on convincing yourself to go to bed! Sometimes I make myself brush my teeth all over again - that helps!;)

I didn't do anything over the weekend as we went to PSU to visit my parents. It was a much needed visit -as they reminded us many times that it's been since Oct since we've been to their house!!! Oh well - it was a nice time.

So today I went into the dungeon and did the weight portion of Cathe's Cardio and Weights. Good workout. I'm making Pam Anderson's 90 min pot roast - the house smells divine!:) Same goals as last week - 3 week workouts and at least 1 weekend workout!!!!:)

Good Tuesday morning. Well the kitten was a terror last night so sleep wasn’t soo great:rolleyes: . If she wasn’t so darn cute and good for Bucky she’d be in big trouble. Anyway, I succeeded in doing upper body, trunk, treadmill and stretching last night. That routine takes just under three hours, but tonight is lower body and that’s the long one. Perhaps I will cut the treadmill workout down because tomorrow is chiropractor and trainer. Do you think that would be OK?

-15F on the way into work and that was without the wind-chill so the pups are inside for the day. I hate doing that to them but all they do is sleep in their dog houses, so sleeping in a kennel is not that different. Then I found out that the SLC PD bloodhound JJ was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and is having to go to NYC for treatment:( . We met him when we went out there and he was a big slobbery sweetheart. The PD isn’t paying for treatment so it’s coming out of the officer’s pay. Needless to say I’m going to send a donation to help. Gosh, we need some good news around here!

And no one pointed out that I didn’t do a positive affirmation yesterday – you guys have to keep me honest.:D So here is what I have come up with.

Every moment granted to me here is a moment to improve myself and the world around me.

Corny huh? Oh well that’s what happens when you let me slip and I listen to Hayhouseradio.com.

Charisse - Well it sounds as if it was a good weekend for you. I'm sure the kids had a great time being spoiled a bit by their grandparents. Wow, did you do your workout while the roast was cooking. I find that so hard, when food smells are coming down my brain says forget exercise ... Let's EAT:p

Joanne - big high five to both boys for scoring goals this weekend. Super! So is your little princess too little for soccer? The ice show sounds like a great girls night out adventure. I'm sure that weight will come off pronto with the great workouts you do. Just a little tweak on the diet and you'll be right where you want to be. So is it an IMAX day?

Charisse, how was your pot roast? Yep, indoor soccer. :) Much too cold to be outside!

Engineer, how many pets do you have? Is Bucky another cat? I'm sure cutting down your routine would be fine. In fact, you don't want to overdo it. No, the princess isn't playing soccer yet. She was born with a heart defect and I'm not sure if it's OK for her to play. The doctor hasn't really given us a straight answer - but now she's getting at the age where she's going to want to do that kind of stuff.

Can't write too much - gotta pick up the boys. One's home sick, though. I didn't do Imax2 today, should have, though. Did half a Christie Taylor step, then part of another CIA video that I got bored with. OK workout. Gotta run...

Hi Everyone --

Last night I did Core Cardio I (the FIRM). I feel like I need a little more cardio. This one is not a favorite of mine -- I feel some of the routines are too basic. Your heart doesn't know the difference though, so I do it.

Engineer -- I'm glad your mother's surgery went well. You're right, it's about time for some good news. I agree with you about kittens, they can be a handful. My DH calls them "Destructo - babies" because they can cause a lot of damage. Don't get me wrong, he loves kittens (and cats). He better - we have 5 of them. I've always loved all animals. Are you old enough to remember the Beverly Hillbillies? Sometimes DH calls me Ellie Mae because of my love of critters.

Charisse -- Glad to hear you had a good time at PSU and visiting your parents. I'm fortunate enough to still have my parents, but DH has lost both of his. I really appreciate them.

Joanne -- Looks like you have your hands full. Good job on squeezing in the w.o. How was Princesses on Ice?

Have a great day!

Juli

Well we left work on time yesterday and had only a couple of stops on the way home. I was craving chocolate (a lot lately? ) and picked up some dark chocolate kisses. So that sealed my fate, I did the full workout last night. Lower body, trunk, treadmill and stretch. I must be getting better at it because I came in just under 3 hours (by 5 minutes! ). Today I have a chiropractor appt and then tonight is training with Rita. I hope that the doc gives me permission to start doing some spine work with twisting. Fingers crossed everyone?

Ok it’s hump day meaning we’re half way through the week – are you still on plan? Or have you fallen back to plan B? Only a couple of weeks to Valentine’s Day so have you got your sweetie(s) anything yet? DH wants the stuff to make a climbing wall in the gym:eek: – he’s nuts it’s not high enough but it will appear that he won’t let this one go – so I might have to break down and let him. I see where much of the country is supposed to have bad weather over the next few days so please take care and I will see you back here tomorrow.

Juli - You're right that your heart doesn't know the difference but if it doesn't appeal to you mentally/emotionally you aren't likely to stay with it. So my suggestion would be to try other cardio workouts and see if you can find some that really are 'fun'. We have 4 cats and three we acquired as babies and they have lived up to the distruction title. But gosh they are cute. Yes I'm old enough:o I always thought being Ellie Mae would be the coolest but I was raised by Dr Doolitle. DF would walk into a pasture and cows and horses would come to see him. He'd never been there before but the animals just knew he was a 'good people'.

Joanne - I have 4 cats, 2 dogs and 2 horses and yes Bucky is another cat. Who really resents being 'domesticated' but has adjusted to regular feeding and soft warm places to lay his fat belly:) . Poor little princess, I'm sure it won't be long before she's gonna want to strap on the cleats and head out on the field. Good job on getting some workout squezed into your already jam packed day. Keep it up - you are an inspiration.

Juli, what other cardio tapes do you have? I don't have that Core Cardio one. Wow, 5 cats! We just have one dog. I'm allergic to cats, so none for us.

Engineer, I'm sure Bucky may act like he resents being "domesticated" but take away that warm house and food and he'd appreciate what he has! :) I had forgotten how fun it was to have pets. We had a couple dogs before we had kids and they both passed away while our youngest boys were toddlers. We didn't get another dog until last year. I don't think I'd ever be without one again. I'm even considering getting another. DH thinks I'm nuts, considering how much I protested getting this one. But, now I'm hooked! Great job on the workout again!! A few dark kisses can't hurt when you're burning all those calories right up! We don't usually do Valentine's gifts - but we do try to either go out or have a special dinner at home. We finally found two girls half a block away who were great babysitters - well, they moved away last month. :( So, I don't know if we'll be going out.

Disney Princesses was fun! Caitlyn loved it. It was a nice girls night out.

Wednesdays are tough. I have to get up extra early to workout since I have to take my son to band practice at 7:00am. I made it today, though. I wanted to do weights, but something different. So I did the combo premix on Cathe's Muscle Endurance and BootCamp DVD. It's a mix of both workouts and it was about an hour. Heavy on the legs, but lots of variety, so it was fun. I think I'm actually getting stronger. I was able to match Cathe on most of the weights. Of course, she uses much lighter weights in these than that Gym Style series. Some kind of cardio tomorrow.

Happy hump day all!

Hi guys! Quick post for me today - You all sound like you're doing awesome!!!!

Nothing yesterday (I really had some sinus/allergy issues - I curled up by the fireplace and watched Jaws - for the 450th time;) )

Today I did BSS3 with Stephanie. I'm whooped. Engineer - I have no idea how you workout for almost 3 hours! Amazing woman.

The pot roast was good -but fatty. I made it with a chuck roast which I haven't used before. Good flavor but not sure if I'd do it again. We all LOVE Linda's Italian Crockpot Beef - and I use a rump roast - it falls apart.

Tonight is Spicy Pork Parmesean :)

I'll post personals tomorrow - Great workouts everyone!!!:)

Charisse, I made that spicy pork parmesan last week. We really like it, even the kids. The weight work in Stephanie's tape is tough - I haven't done any Firms in ages, though.

Today I did Turbo Jam. Nice change of pace.

Went to the "hoe down" at the boys school last night. Did some line dancing, does that count as exercise? :)

Slow day for me yesterday:( . Chiropractor adjusted my lower back first time since I injured it and I didn’t develop any pain so I’m cleared to start working the obliques:D , slowly now. Then he stuck me on this aqua thermal massage bed which was Grand! I cranked it as high as I could and just enjoyed the ‘pounding’;) . Anyway he said as you get older it’s harder for the muscles to release the toxins that build-up during a workout and that this would help to clear them. Sounds like I need to work on getting in the sauna more as I know that helps with the release also. Gee whiz too many things to do and not enough hours in the day:eek: . But the rest of the day I think I was suffering from toxins in the blood stream as I was just exhausted and somewhat loopy. Then I met Rita for my training and she went over what we were going to add and had me try the moves to make sure there was no pain and that I was properly positioned. So it was only a very light workout if you can call it a workout at all. Maybe I should call it a semi-active rest day? Then Rita got on me about fluid retention and was I doing everything to help combat that – well gee I thought it was getting better, silly me.

Today is Upper body, trunk, treadmill (sticking with that for another week before I start back on the tapes) and stretching. Welcome to February.

Joanne - The 'hoe down' sounds like fun. Line dancing can certainly count as exercise, especially since you'd already completed TJ. Good job of mixing things up. I say go for another dog - at one point we had 3 dogs in the house along with 4 cats and 1 chinchilla. It was a total zoo but it was wonderful. I miss those days.:(

Charisse - So sorry to hear that the sinus/allergy thing decided to act up. I hope you had some nice tea when you curled up by the fireplace. Stephanie is tough, so big gold star for doing it. And remember that 3 hours is 88 minutes on the treadmill and warm up, cool down, stretching and changing up the bowflex and weights and such. It's really not that impressive. The two of you are making me thing I need to try the spicy pork parmesan. Hmmm.

Hey tomorrow is Friday - any one have big super bowl parties planned?

cniles

The spicy pork parmesan cutlets were great!!! DH kept saying how good they were :)

I think tonight I'll rest - got some unexpected cardio last night ;) They're calling for some snow tonight so I'm hoping for a delay in school - I'd get some exercise in the am and maybe some cleaning before going in!!!! Fingers crossed!

Engineer - I'd love to have animals but DH is not really into it - he's allergic to cats (although prekids we did have 2) I would love a dog but he prefers to be animal free - we'll see.... the kids are working on him! BTW does the sauna really help? Dumb question as I'm sure it works for you - what does the steam do? Now you have me intrigued - I'll have to check out hayhousereadio.com!!!

Joanne - line dancing does count!! Way back in the early 90's I was in a country phase and went line dancing every weekend! The best workout!!;) Did you do the Boot scootin' boogie?:D Are the kids healthy now? Back to school? Who does Turbo Jam? I keep coming back to my same 4-5 DVD's and think I need to mix it up a bit!!!

Regular weekend scheduled for us - Valentine's day I took off b/c I host Bunco (need to clean the house) and then I'll spend the 1/2 day at Sam's school with V-day party etc... That weekend mom's staying with the boys and we're getting a hotel in Harrisburg and going out to dinner/breakfast... a little couple time. Hard to believe it's only 2 weeks away.

Happy Thursday everyone!!!

Hi Ladies --

Last night was Yoga night and I did Navel Power Yoga (about 50 minutes) The DVD actually goes a bit longer, but it was time for Grey's Anatomy, so I stopped.

Joanne -- How is Turbo Jam? I see the infomercials and it looks like fun. I really need some variety in my cardio w.o., but I'm on the austerity program right now and only want to spend money on something that is great. Jan/Feb is always "austerity program" for me and my DH. We get hit with our taxes, insurance on both cars, and insurance on the house. To top it off this year, my DH had Lasik, and even though he has a health care spending account, there is still a couple thousand outlay. Ouch! but necessary.

And yes, line dancing definitely counts as exercise. So does shoveling snow.

Charisse -- where can I find the recipe for the spicy pork cutlets everyone is raving about? Is it from CL? I try to cook healthfully as much as possible. Even though I am thin, morbid obesity is rampant in my family. I think the only reason I'm thin is "thin habits".

Have a great day, everyone. This weekend, we're in the Chili Cookoff at the local Super Bowl party. It's a fund-raiser for the local HS Swim team. My DH doesn't cook but he wants to take the bragging rights from his buddy. I made him the "stirrer" last night so he can truly say he did something.

Charisse, sounds like you had some fun cardio. ;) Did you get any snow? No snow for us, just nasty cold! I don't think it's supposed to make it out of the single digits until the middle of next week. Too bad, because when the Bears (yes, I said when, not if!!) win the Super Bowl, our parade would be Tuesday, with a high of 4 degrees. I'll be watching that on TV. No, no boot scooting boogie, at least I don't think so! :)

Turbo Jam is done by Chalene Johnson and it's distributed by Beachbody (www.beachbody.com). It's kind of like a funky Taebo, if that makes sense! It is fun, but I don't think I could do it more than once a week or so. It's a little too "peppy."

Juli, this is a link to the pork recipe: http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?t=100957
If that link doesn't work, it's a thread that's on the first page of the food board now. Good luck at the chili cook-off!

Engineer, how was your workout last night? I bet it will be fun to get back to some of your tapes.

This morning I did Mindy's Interval Express. I was so depressed this morning. My eating's been bad and my clothes are getting tight. I was having a hard time finding something to wear that wasn't tight and getting mad at myself for doing all this exercising and then eating so much and ruining it all!! But, I'm trying to start new today. Although, of course, they're ordering pizza here today to celebrate the Bears.

Sunday we are going to a Super Bowl party at the church. Should be fun. Tonight I'm going out with some friends I haven't seen in awhile for dinner. Mmmm, maybe this eating better thing won't really happen till Monday.

Everyone have a great weekend!!

Well, gang we made it to Friday – Let’s see that means we’ve made it through January and we are still working out or recovering or just staying involved and that’s a good thing:D . Last night was tough I just was tired, sore and tight and it was my first night doing some lower back work. I did upper body, trunk, treadmill and Firm 5-day stretch Day 3. The back was a little sore last night when I finished up but I am hoping that was just muscles that haven’t been worked in a while, it’s better now. I managed to do it in just under 3 hours, so I’m feeling pretty good about that.

No big plans for me this weekend. Rita wants me to determine my one rep max for my quads and hamstrings and if the hamstrings aren’t at 75% of the quads then I have to start focusing on building them up. So I’ll do that this weekend. Wishing you all a safe, warm and relaxing weekend.

Joanne - stay warm, we are going to have highs below zero for the next 5 days. Ugh! OK so eating isn't super, you can make it through this weekend and then focus back on it. Your workouts have been super, so it would appear you just focus a little bit on eating and you'll be back in those clothes in no time.

Juli - 50 minutes of yoga earns you one heck of a big gold star! Good luck at the chili cookoff. What kind did you make (red, green, con carne,...)? DH makes some wicked chili both red and green and we always put pintos in the red. Yum, just thinking of it is making me hungry.

Charisse - Did you get any snow? Oh and it's an IR sauna. It's supposedly penetrates deeper to help rid the body of toxins. So it's dry and that's nice, as it doesn't seem to aggrevate my asthma, like a regular sauna can. As usual you have a busy social calender.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi All --

This morning I did Core Cardio 2 (the FIRM). I like this one so much better than Core Cardio 1. I think it's because Carissa Foster is the main instructor. In CC1 is Dale Braham, and I just don't like her style very much. At any rate, I feel that I've been slacking on the cardio (even though I love it) and I'm revamping my routine.

Cold in Cincinnati today, the wind is fierce. Good thing I exercise with DVDs; it's way to cold for running or other outdoor activity. I'll have to w.o. tomorrow too to get in my weekly four. Don't know what I'll do yet.

Hope all are well.....

Juli
