View Full Version : Boden is trying to bankrupt me!!

This bb introduced me to Boden, and I made my first purchase from their Christmas sale a few months ago. Now evil Boden is sending me really nice catalogs with some of the cutest and most wearable clothes I have ever seen. Someone should stop them!!!!

Although I love so much of the really fun prints in their catalog, my wardrobe is really short on basics, so from all the really adorable things I marked, I pretty much have talked myself out of everything but some really cute cropped pants. There are two colors I really like, and I'm not sure which would be more versatile. Also, I am not exactly slender in the middle anymore - I'm not all that overweight, but I have a pooch-y stomach :(, and I'm not sure how these pants would look if I wore them with untucked shirts. So, I would love some opinions on 1) which pants would be more versatile, 2)ideas for shirts to go with them, and 3) if I would be able to wear them with untucked shirts, or which shirts would hide my poochiness. (I am about 5'6" and 10-15 pounds over what I consider my ideal weight, if that helps)

Here are the pants:

Thanks!

PS- how do I get the pictures to show in the page, instead of as links??

I've tried twice with the links you have provided and it came up as a link instead of an image.
Normally you would click on the image icon, the one that is yellow and has what looks like a mountain on it. You could try again by going to the website again and right clicking it and highlighting the url to the image and then coming here and try and post it.

I'm with you on Boden - I really have to discipline myself just to order from them a couple of times a year.

Personally, I think you'll get more wear out of the top pair - I think those are darling! I find that layering (wearing a sweater and then an untucked shirt underneath, or layered t-shirts) really helps hide a wider mid-section.

I just went on the Boden site to request a catalogue (thanks guys!) and I had to laugh at all the choices for "title". You know, usually it is limited to Mr/Mrs/Ms/Dr but they had "Duke" and "Viscount"! It cracked me up!

I vote for the solid brown. And order a pair for me, too, please. :D

I'm right there with you on the "thanks-to-this-BB-Boden-is-trying-to-bankrupt-me" train. Ack!

So no one has had any problems with their orders even though they come from overseas? I love the clothes, but have never gotten anything because of the talk about customs, etc. etc. If it's as easy as ordering from a USA catalog, I might give it a try. I love the new catalogue that has the outfits already made for you in the front :)

It's just as easy as ordering from a US company - no worries about customs, etc. It takes a day or two longer to arrive than it might from someplace like J Crew, but it's not horribly slow, either. Returns are to an address in Florida. They often have specials with free shipping/free returns though.

The top pair, definitely. If you are short on basics, that one will be much more versatile than the striped pair.

As for shirts, I *never* tuck in shirts. EVER. With casual capris, I usually go for a fitted knit top:

or a fitted button-down shirt:

OMG. This makes me feel so good. I NEVER tuck in shirts either. Never ever. I'm short and short-waisted, which causes all that extra length on the shirt to bunch up if I try to tuck long tailed shirts in. Like I need 2 feet of material bunched up in my pants right across my gut and rear---I have enough problems going on there as it is. My mother has finally given up on asking me "why don't you tuck in your shirt?"?

Anyway. Back to scoping out the Boden stuff...

My issue with the top pair is, what colors would go with it besides white, cream and black? What I like about the bottom pair is I think they would look great with a blue shirt, and I look great in blue.

Another shortie here. Back in the 80s when big belts were in and I was 15 lbs lighter, I wore things tucked in because it was the style but it was SO wrong for my body. I haven't tucked anything in for years - it just emphasizes how poochy my stomach is below the belt and the rear view is no prize, either. I'm always shopping for the kind of tops that Aggie94 posted above. I have good luck with JJill and Lands End petites that just skim the top of my hipbones. (I can get away with this 'cause I'm too old for low-rise jeans ... no one needs to see my mid-section!)

On the original topic, I love the cropped pants but I will NOT get on the Boden mailing list ... I don't need the temptation since I have a kid going to college in a few year years.

Well, the first top I posted is actually navy, which I think would look great with those pants. But you're right - I have some olive capris that I tend to pretty much wear just white and black with.

You could solve your problem by just buying both pairs. ;) :p

With the solid ones, you could wear a solid or print top. I'm no fashion maven, but I think you could only do a solid top with the striped pair.

I promise, it never entered my mind to wear a patterned top with the striped pants!! I am fashion clueless, but not that bad. :D

I think both pairs are so cute, but I do have to say that part of what makes the top pair cute is that belt... and if you wear an untucked top, then the belt won't show! That said, brown goes with a lot - pink, peach, light blue, denim, white, cream... not to mention all the prints that have brown in them!

Try wearing your olive capris with pink, coral, or light blue shirts. All those colors look great with olive.

I agree; the new Boden catalog has so many beautiful shirts and skirts. Their shoes are cute too. I enjoy winter but I am really starting to crave spring clothes again. It is 11 degrees here today, so capris and flip-flops seems especially appealing. :)

I like the brown ones.

I stay away from patterned pants, because personally I don't think they look that flattering on most people. I have a tummy pooch (from my bad ovary making my abdomen swell) Those striped pants would not lie straight down because my pooch would make the stripes crooked.

I like blues with brown, pumpkin orange, cinnamon red, olive green and cream are other good colors.

I'm with Eva. I never tuck in my shirts, and I love layering a tank or tee under another shirt or sweater.

Eva, I love cream and brown with olive. I found this great cream tee with a brownish olive design on it at a cool thrift shop I went to with my mom in Raleigh. I wore it to Wrightsville Beach where she took my photo. I'm also wearing my new Levis. The woman in the pink is my mom.

Part of the problem is that most of my wardrobe is black, brown, olive, gray, and white. In fact, I just bought some new clothes online this weekend -- winter clearance sales -- and I have coming shortly black cargo pants, moss green cords, and a cream cashmere cardigan. :o I am trying to branch out with some color, but so far, that's mostly just been red, because it looks good on me. I don't think I own anything that is pink, coral, or light blue! :o

As far as getting the image to post instead of just the link, I figured this out by trial and error. Do what you already did and then look at the link to see what you can cut off at the very end. It took me a couple of tries but after I cut off the ?$productHome$ the image appeared. I don't know any programming so it would take a programmer to explain why but at least it works.
I agree with everyone else. I'm not a "tucker" either and always seems like such a shame that they give you such cute belts that don't end up showing. Even when I do tuck things in I absolutely NEVER wear a belt. Why draw a great big line telling the world 'HERE'S THE FAT SPOT".:o
