Final Harry Potter installment released on July 21
The fate of fictional boy wizard Harry Potter will finally be revealed on July 21, the publication day for the seventh and final installment of J.K. Rowling's hugely successful book series.
In what promises to be one of the biggest publishing events in recent years, book stores will be bracing for another outbreak of Pottermania as fans across the world snap up their copies of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
Speculation has been rife that Rowling, who became a dollar billionaire on the back of the success of the Harry Potter books and spin-off movies, may kill Harry at the end of book seven.
She said last year that at least two characters would die in the final book, and that she understood authors' desire to kill off the main character of a successful series.
Two top U.S. authors, John Irving and Stephen King, were sufficiently concerned over the fictional hero's fate to urge Rowling to spare Potter.
Potter publisher Bloomsbury Publishing Plc announced the release date on Thursday, and added that it remained cautious about its outlook in light of challenging market conditions, although the announcement supported its previously stated view of a satisfactory outcome for 2007.
It's shares were trading at 225 pence at 1240 GMT on Thursday, up around two percent from Wednesday's close. Broader shares were also higher, with the FTSE 100 up more than one percent by the same time.

WOW! I didn't think it would be out so quickly! Maybe it's just that time has flown, but it seemed a lot longer between some of the others.
It will be bittersweet!
And then it will be time to avert the eyes and turn off the TV any time the name Harry Potter is mentioned to avoid any spoilers!!!! :D

Yeah I'm hoping not to be spoiled before I get to read the book.
Semi-related: Did anyone else see Daniel Radcliffe on Extras? LMAO!!!
He's definitely trying to move beyond Harry. Check out these pictures promoting his new play

Here's the part that confuses me. There will be a childrens' hardcover and an adult hardcover.
Which one will complete my collection? I'm thinking the childrens', but then I don't know if any of the others have been released in "adult" hardcover...

I suspect if she offs Harry, she'll have to worry about her own life  .
July is certainly going to be a big month for Potter fans, isn't it?

Two versions? Now I wonder which one I ordered? I will have to go look and see if it says anything. I don't think it did.

My understanding is that the only difference between the children's and the adult's editions is the artwork - the writing itself is identical. I think all the books have had two editions.
I think Snape is going to be huge in the last book, and I suspect he will in the end turn out to be against Voldemort. JKR gave an interview years ago in which she alluded to the redemptive nature of Snape. I wonder if he will be one of the ones who dies. Anyone else care to speculate on what will happen in "Deathly Hallows"?

www.pottercast.com (Pottercast) had people write in theories on book seven, and they've been airing some of their favorites. The current favorite has Harry time traveling back to the night his parents are killed, and filling Dumbledore in on what's to come. The theory holds that Snape was there that night, and there is some kind of confrontation to explain his hatred of Harry. Not sure I buy into it, but it's interesting, nonetheless.
One of the hosts also shared her theory that Zacharias Smith is related to Hepzebah Smith in book 6-- the one with the Hufflepuff cups. I hadn't made that connection. Horcrux alert!

YAY!! I just called my boyfriend, who is a HP freak and he nearly ran off the road he was so excited. It's coming out the day after his birthday so guess what I'm going to have to give him? (just a bit late though) I better go pre-order it so I don't have to stand out in line for a whole day or something like that.

I think Radcliffe wants to prove that he has an acting career beyond Harry Potter. Good reviews in a play like Shaffer's "Equus" will go a long way towards showing that he can be more than just Harry.

Oh yeah -- I noticed that Daniel Radcliffe was filling out nicely in HP The Goblet of Fire. I can understand why he's doing such a controversial role, but I'm not actually certain he has the acting chops. Needless to say, this play will be a sell-out!

So if I pre-order my book from amazon, will it get there on the day it is released, or will they just mail it out on that day? I can't wait beyond the 21st to have it so I could always make a Costco run, but it would be nice to have it delivered. Or... maybe I'd have to do the Costco run because my mail doesn't come until 4 pm.... Hmmmmm what to do????

I preordered the last book from amazon and I think I got it either on the day of the release or 1-2 days later. Really no wait and no waiting in any lines to buy it!
