On the Control Panel, there is a CHECK MARK beside my HP printer icon...and it will not print. I don't know how it got there, as I printed something earlier today.
Does anyone know how to remove the check mark.
My task bar also does not recognize that I have a printer, but everything is installed correctly.
Thanks for any input...

That check mark just designates that that printer is your default printer. You can only remove it if you have another printer installed. Then you will default print to THAT printer.

If you have a different printer driver (the software that runs your printer) installed, you can just go to Start > Printers and Faxes. Right-click on the printer that you want to use, then select Set as Default Printer. I'm assuming you're using Windows XP...

If you DO want to use the HP printer, and the check mark is there, then there may be another issue.
