I'm new to San Francisco and wondering if there is a supper club I could join or if there were others interested in starting one. I'd welcome any and all responses, although I am single and would love to join or start a predominantly singles group. THANKS!

I'm also interested in joining a supper club here in san francisco. Maybe we could meet at a restaurant and post the date for anyone else who is interested. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Oops ... let's try this again! I think the idea of the restaurant as the initial meeting place is a good idea -- anyone else interested in attending??? Guys and girls welcome!!

I'd love to become part of a supper club. I actually live in the East Bay but I work in San Francisco and I don't mind travelling around the bay area for great, healthy food! Please let me know more details about the first meeting.

Cout me in! I live and work in San Francisco and would love to be part of a Supper Club. Where shall we meet?

Looks like we've got the beginnings of a good group. Would anyone like to suggest a restaurant for the first meeting -- someplace centrally located in the city, that might be quiet enough for us to talk? Any suggestions?? I would propose we consider the week of January 15th (hopefully gives everyone enough time to plan) and would love suggestions on a night of the week that might work for everyone for the first meeting. THANKS!

Wow, what a great response! Re: places to meet - Delancey Street (on the Embarcadero near Townsend) is usually pretty quiet, easy to get reservations, reasonably priced and with the added bonus of having a "light" section on their menu. Plus parking there is not quite the headache it is elsewhere, and the food is generally good. (It's a California/American-type menu). However, I'm always up for trying something new if anyone else has any suggestions! Hopefully we could do it on a night *other* than Monday or Wednesday, since I have class those nights :-6

I think Delancy Street would be a great place for a first meeting, especially as it's pretty easy to get to from Muni and Bart. Would Tuesday the 16th work?

TERRIFIC! Delancy Street it is!!! Tuesday, January 16th is the date, and we'll set a reservation at 6:30pm (to allow folks enough time to commute in or out as the case may be!). I'd like to get an accurate count of how many we'll be, so please respond to this post and let me know if you'll be there.

Great -- right now it looks like we are 6. The reservation will be under MCAULEY. See you all then. If anyone else would like to join, or anyone else would like to bring another friend along, let me know and we'll up the count. For anyone that can't make it -- not to worry -- we'll update the group after the meeting! Look forward to meeting you all!!

If this group gets too large, we can always break it down into smaller groups, base it on menu choices etc. I have about five people who are interested in doing this.

The SF/Bay Area Cooking Light group is getting together for our July meeting -- BBQ At The Park -- this coming Sunday, July 15th. (Can you believe this is sixth month?). The theme this month is anything you can grill! Bring your best receipes -- and, guys, this is your chance to SHINE! This is also a chance to bring your non-cooking friends to enjoy the great food!!

If you are interested in joining our always growing group, please respond back with your email address and we'll add you to our mailing list.

The SF Supper Club is meeting on Sunday, October 14th for our October Dinner.

This month's theme is SPANISH, featuring tapas, paella & sangria!

We're always looking for new members -- we get anywhere from 5-15 people per dinner, with our overall group at about 25-30 people -- we're casual & felxible -- no guilt about missing dinners! Both singles and couples welcome!

If you're interested, please respond to this post with your email address and we'll add you to our email distribution.

Come on :-) -- join us!!

AMac

Glad to see the new members! We're a very diverse group of people -- mostly in our 20's & 30's. Some single, some married (and some of those married come with their spouses, others don't). We come from all walks of life -- teachers, lawyers, marketing professionals, dot commers, etc. The only thing we share in common is enjoying good conversation over good food! Most people joined this group because they are avid readers of Cooking Light. When Cooking Light started the concept of Supper Clubs, many of us thought it would be fun -- a good place to test out new receipes and meet some new people. It's been almost a year since we started. We meet once a month on a Sunday evening. We rotate to different people's houses, and the host is responsible for the main dish. He/she is joined by a couple of other people to help prepare the main dish. Everyone else brings appetizers, desserts, drinks, etc. We choose a different theme for each month. So far, we've had Moroccan, Thai, Mediterranean, TexMex, Anything You Can Grill, Indian, Sunday Brunch and now Spanish. While we oftentimes get receipes from Cooking Light, we're not "Light" fanatics. It's more about good food with good people. Receipes are sometimes traded (we're trying to do this more!). So ... hope this little introduction helps! We're always looking for more people because we want people to feel flexible enough to come one month and miss another month. So ... JOIN US! Leave us your email address and we'll add you to our bulletin board!

Thanks to Rosanne & Eric for hosting May's Irish Supper Club -- the food was great and the potato variations were excellent!

This month's meeting is a a NEW concept for us! We're headed to Mae's home in Discovery Bay for the SF Cooking Light Supper Club WEEKEND GETAWAY on June 22nd & 23rd! In addition to the waterskiing, kayaking, sunbathing and good-'ole-fashion relaxation, we'll actually have three meals for collaboration -- brunch on Saturday, dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. You're welcome to come for just Saturday or stay overnight (bring your sleeping bags as first-come-first-serve beds will go fast!)

Check out the Evite for more information. If you'd like to join our group - GREAT -- the more the merrier. We're always thrilled to have new members join us. Hi. WOW! I've read most of the posts from inception to your weekend in Discovery Bay. Your group seems to be thriving. Congrats!

Are you still welcoming newbies? I'd love to be included in any future events. Live in the East Bay but work in the city. Bay area travel for fantastic food and great company is a no brainer.

Thanks to Amy & Kramer for hosting November's Supper Club. The Autumn Bounty was outstanding -- the chance to cook with the great fresh vegatables grown here was terrific (and timely with the current issue of Cooking Light.)

December marks our two year anniversary (can you believe it?!) and Eric & Rosanne will be hosting on December 8th. The theme will be Vietnamese (with Thai / Pan-Asian influences as well!). In addition, we'll have our much talked about Cooking White Elephant (everyone should bring an item from their kitchen that they don't use wrapped up!) Consider things like Cookbooks (some of us have too many to use), odd utensils you wonder why you bought, or extra things (like my collection of too many pie plates!) that you can spare.

We welcome anyone interested in joining our group -- simply respond to this post with your email and we'll add you to our Evite for the event which tracks accepts & declines as well as dishes people are preparing. (Our host provides the main dish, everyone else brings either a appetizer, side dish, dessert or beverage).

See you all in December!!

THANK YOU to Rosanne and Eric for hosting our terrific Thai night. As always, the food was outstanding. And I hope everyone is enjoying their new-found kitchen item thanks to the White Elephant.

January's Cooking Light Supper Club will feature Indian Food as we ring in the new year and YEAR 3 of the SF Cooking Light Supper Club (can you believe it!). Indian Night will be Sunday, January 12th and the main dishes will be a Chicken Curry and a Chickpea Curry. Group members will be bringing appetizers, side dishes and desserts. We'll also be making some Nan.

If you are interested in joining our group (we're always looking for new members!) please post your email address and we will add you to our Evite list. See you in January. HAPPY NEW YEARS!

Hi all! Thanks to everyone who pitched in at Eric's -- great job on the Mexican Night! And to all who made it to the Cooking Light event at the Ferry Building -- thanks -- and it was great to see everyone!

Our next meeting with be hosted by Jennifer and will be Italian themed. Special treat -- a light tiramisu! Jen is working on sending out the Evite with all of the details ... but in the meantime, save Sunday night October 26th on your calendar.

As always, we welcome new members ... simply drop me a message or post your email here and we'll add you to our Evite (we use Evite to manage the event). Each month our group hosts an event at a member's home. We usually meet Sunday evenings, and the host determines the theme. The host will also prepare a main dish; everyone else brings appetizers, side dishes, desserts or adult beverages. (We manage the list of items people are planning on bringing on Evite). Our group is men and women in their 20's and 30's ( a few in their 40's, but you'd never know it!) with very diverse backgrounds. Singles and couples. In the end, we simply enjoy good food, great wines, and terrific conversation. Join us sometime!

The SF Cooking Light Supper Club's Annual White Elephant Holiday Party is Sunday December 5th.

Our cooking theme for the party will be Vegetarian (no meat or fish please). We'll also do our annual White Elephant -- where we all bring a cooking-related gift to be placed under the tree and the numbers game of White Elephant is played. Your cooking item can be something new or something from your kitchen that you don't use or think someone in the group could really use. Over the years we've had some terrific gifts -- gag gifts of odd kitchen gizmos and trades of well loved pie plates, just to name a few.

We're always looking for new members to join our group. If you're interested, send me an email to my Cooking Light address here and we'll add you to our Evite list. Our group meets once a month on a Sunday evening; homes rotate as does the theme!

Look forward to seeing everyone on the 5th!

Hi Friends!

Hope the start to your summer has been good thus far!

Last weekend, Mae and Rick opened their vacation home up to the SF Cooking Light group and we enjoyed a terrific weekend at Discovery Bay! The weather was a bit cooler than past years, but we nonetheless headed out on the boat to explore the canals and to watch Roger and then Marie take their turns at tubing. (Not to worry Marie, I have not emailed ANY of the 107 pictures we took! ... So I got a little crazy! ;-D!) Both the brunch and our Brazilian Dinner were outstanding. And we added another excellent story to the group's folklore -- Mae and toasting coconut! I won't say anymore -- you'll have to ask Mae the next time you see her. But it ranks up there with Marie's pearl tea, Jen's "fascist" (her word!) tiramisu lesson, and the "flaming cheese" incident. So as you might guess, good food and lots of laughs were the theme of our June meeting.

We're now planning the next few month's events -- we have tentative hosts for August (Jen) and September (Betsy) but are looking for a July host (Marie is starting a new job -- CONGRATULATIONS -- and is not sure what her weekend commitment will be and may need to postpone hosting) .... so .... any volunteers to host for July??

So .... check your calendars to see if you can host in July (and get ready for another great event coming up soon!

THANKS!

Our Cooking Light Supper Club is looking for a few more members ... interested?

We meet once a month on a Sunday evening for a group dinner. Our host chooses the theme and prepares the main dish; the attendees bring an appetizier, side dish, dessert and/or beverage to compliment the theme. (We coordinate dishes online via Evite.) In conjunction with certain month's events we'll do a cooking demonstration or group dish cooking.

Our group is comprised of cooking enthusiasts, 20 - 40yrs old, men and women (although the women ususally outnumber the men), single and married. We're lawyers, IT professionals, marketers, consultants, teachers, etc... pretty diverse crowd! What we share in common is the interest in cooking light -- but not to worry, we don't take ourselves too seriously! This is not a group that is intimidating -- we have new cooks as well as long-time cooks.

We don't charge any fees and our only requirement for the group is that you be willing to host a dinner once a year.

If you're interested, email me at sfcookinglight@yahoo.com and we'll add you to our distribution list of monthly invitations.

THANKS!

Just a quick calendar update (another reason to get your 2006 calendar!)... our next event will be Sunday, January 22nd and we'll be in San Francisco for this event! The theme will be fondue! (Yes, we're going to figure out a way to do more than just cheese fondue, we'll do it light, and we'll all finally use those fondue pots we all have!!).

Our February event will be on Saturday, February 24th and will be an outdoor hike with a picnic following -- and we're headed out to Ano Nuevo State Reserve to see the Elephant Seals (a Bay Area MUST if you have not done this yet!).

So mark your calendars and save these dates. If you are interested in joining our group, please email sfcookinglight@yahoo.com and we'll add you to our monthly event Evites!

THANKS! Happy Holidays and Best Wishes For a Terrific 2006!
