Hello out there. :)
What's everyone up to?
I'm off to sub later this morning. I'm glad to have the work - need the money - but this subbing thing is so disconcerting! I tend to be one who likes routine and you get none of that with subbing. I never know where I'm going to be or what I'm going to be doing! On the other hand, I do get flexibility if I need it - of course I haven't said no yet, but I can if I want to. :)
I think we have a free weekend! I need to get ready for the next weekend when my SIL, BIL and 4 girls come for a visit. That definitely won't be a quiet weekend!
I think my hormones must be out of whack. Little things are making me crazy. An email from a friend, a thread posted on these boards, stupid little things. Last night I suddenly felt desperate for a girls' night out! I haven't had one since we moved - I used to get out almost once a month. DH and I haven't even been getting out either, mostly to help save money. ACK! I do get alone time - too much - I need the opposite, I think. :) Maybe if I get enough sub jobs, we can splurge just a little.........
Anyway, I'm not whining......really! ;)
Have a good one!

Good morning all!
Alysha - I signed up to sub, but they haven't called me yet. I too need some money while I continue my job search. And it's OK to whine, I've been feeling sort of low myself ... sort of defeated. And since I'm home, I find I'm grazing more, so on top of it I've put on a few pounds. Ugh!!!
I'm off to the gym this morning. The Friday am class is always tough ... but a good way to welcome the weekend. :p I've been good about excercising, which proves weight control is about exercise and food choices/portions. Lesson to self ...
Tonight I'm getting together with my old work buddies. One of them is relocating to Chicago, with the company, so they're having a send-off party. I miss this group and know I'll have fun tonight with them.

Happy subbing today, Alysha!!! I know how it is to be stuck in the house... it's all too common this time of the year. It's been wicked cold this week & I've been watching the towns to the north of us struggle with the snow. Seems like every network has been in Oswego County this week covering the huge snowfalls. I have a good friend who teaches in Mexico, NY... they've been off all week & she was telling me yesterday that they're now in take-away mode for spring break. They've used up their allotted snow days & then some. It's freaky how the lake-effect snow works... I'm only 15 miles south of these towns that have been getting hammered & we didn't get any snow to speak of until yesterday. Mostly blowing & drifting snow all week at my house.
So I'm basically just hanging out today. My neighbors across the street left for a cruise yesterday so I'm keeping an eye on things, which includes driveway patrol. We leave next Saturday for our cruise so this weekend we'll begin packing in earnest. Hopefully the UPS man will bring my new bathing suit from Lands End today.
And I'll probably hit the grocery store for some odds & ends for the weekend. I haven't been in a couple of days. I think they've missed me...;)

Don't I know the feeling! Everyone warned us that the first year of being married would be an adjustment (for us it's not so much with each other so much as financially) and so I was prepared but we're starting to go a bit stir crazy now and it's only been 7 months! When we were dating/engaged we used to go out all the time and I used to see the girls at least once a week...that is NO MORE! Of course, I'm very happily married - I just can't wait until we're in a place where we can afford to go on a DATE, at least once every couple of weeks...I mean, we're not poor but it seems like there is something that always comes up....first it was my sister's baby shower, then it was xmas, then we needed a new this and a new that....okay vent over...I hope you didn't mind ;) !
Good news though (well hopefully)...DH is working the evening shift Valentine's day so we're going out for dinner saturday...EXCEPT, I'm sick  ....bad cough and a fever AND I had to go into work today! :( Hopefully I'm feeling better tomorrow so we'll still be able to go out...that would SUCK...I have been looking forward to this for a month!
Have a great weekend everyone, I'll probably we leaving work at noon so I won't be back on the boards 'til Monday! :D

Hi Lauren. Yes, defeated is a good word for how I feel too. I've been trying to think positively and turn my mindset around, but it's been very hard! We did okay with Chuck's illness, but this whole move and now the continued financial stresses - I'm having a much harder time with it.
Weight's an issue here too. I think I really, really need to get out of the house and join a gym. I'm going to take a day next week and try to find something reasonable. I've not done that because I wanted to save money, but I can't stand it anymore. I gotta get out of here and I need to something for my health. Maybe I can find something with a reasonable per diem fee.......
One suggestion - as someone who used to call for subs, it's really hard to call someone new - you have no idea what you're getting! It might help - if you haven't already done so - to go around to the individual schools to introduce yourself and give them a resume. All school districts are different, but in Indiana, we knew NOTHING about these people. If they see you and get a better idea of your capabilities, they might be more willing to call you. :) Good luck! Are you teacher subbing or aide subbing?

I was just reading in the paper that they have had 6 feet of snow and counting??!! Oh my!
Where are you cruising to?

Happy Friday everyone!
Well I'm home for the 3rd time this week. The girls both have the flu, but thanks to Tamiflu they are on the mend. I was home M,W,F, and DH worked from home Tues & Thurs. Mariel got sick on Sunday, she wasn't too bad but the high fever prompted us to take her to the Dr on Wednesday. The Dr.'s office gave both girls prescriptions. Mariel's fever went away yesterday, and she seems back to normal today. Ginger has a low fever, but a bad headache.
I've got another meeting today, this one should be the last, but I have to join in from home.
Gotta run,
Leigh

Morning Everyone! It's been awhile...
Looks like everyone's going a bit stir-crazy. Same here. I'm just ready to be done with "cozy nights with a good book and a glass of red wine!" It looks good on paper, but seriously, I'm going a bit nuts. Maybe relaxation is overrated ;)
Feel better to all who are under the weather! Something is going around my office (hacking cough, runny nose, aches and pains)- thankfully I haven't caught it yet
As for me, I'm off till Monday! Wohoo! It's DBF's 24th birthday Saturday, so we're doing a HUGE meal tonight. It's a bit funny- I asked what I could make for he and his friends, and said "Thanksgiving!" So, we're having turkey and all the fixins tonight :). I also made two cakes.
Cake 1: A boxed marble cake. It PAINED me to make this! LOL. He said it's what his mom has been making him since he was tiny, and didn't want to break tradition. Since he and I moved away from our home state last fall, I figured it was the least I could do. At least the frosting will be homemade!
Cake 2: Eating Well's "Died and Went to Heaven Chocolate Cake." Hopefully no one keels over during it's consumption- but I do hope it's tasty. I haven't seen any reviews for it on here, so I'll do my best to pass the good/bad word. Still trying to think of a filling/frosting for it though!
Have a great weekend everyone: All travelers: be safe, all who are snowed in: stay warm, and everyone else: :o

I was just reading in the paper that they have had 6 feet of snow and counting??!! Oh my!
Where are you cruising to?
There are places that have had over 10 feet of snow!!! Fortunately  they are in an area that depends heavily on the snowmobile tourism trade in the winter so they are thrilled. Ugh. Not me.
We're going to the Caribbean on our cruise out of Miami... we go to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay Jamaica, & Labadee, which is Royal Caribbean's private beach off the coast of Haiti. Jamaica is the only place we haven't been to yet. We're excited to go!!!

You want to send the snow up here to Canada!!! Usually in Montreal we get snowbanks so high you can't see the whole first floor of your house  ! This year only a measly few inches...we didn't even have snow at Xmas...what's up with that! Being a skier I'm missing the powder snow...I think we'll be going to Jay Peak, VT this year instead of the hills around here! Of course, when you're taking public transportation to get to work in the morning it helps having little snow but it's just NOT the same!!! :p :D

Good morning, all! I'm with you all on the going stir crazy! I'm longing for grilling weather!
Relaxing weekend for me! Dh has a side job on Saturday but that money will go towards putting our new deck on. I get to spend the day exercising, cleaning, organizing and I think I might make homemade soft pretzels.
I also have a job interview next week at my alma mater and I SO want this job. My problem is, how do I get out of my current job to go on an interview? I've already used up the dental appointment excuses and god help me if I actually need to go to the dentist.... Anyone help me with that one?
Alysha, glad you got a sub job. I should think you would be able to find a gym that would work with you up there, at least I hope you do! Sometimes you have to spend that little extra to help your mind!
Erin, the beginning of marriage is difficult but it does get better. Our first year was definitely tough but worth it!
Lauren, enjoy your night and kick butt at the gym!
Sue, enjoy your cruise, I would so kill to be going on one now, So much fun!
Cumulus, good luck with the dinner and happy birthday to your DBF!
Leigh, glad to see you here and hope the girls feel better soon!

Good morning everyone! Well I can inject a bit of positive here! :)
My IT director came home with me Wednesday to network my two computers (one brand new). We had to get Vista and I was reading so many awful things about what wasn't compatible with it that I was super stressed.
We gave Andy the "old" computer with XP so that his music creation programs will still work. He is taking old albums and cassettes and putting the music on CD. He also gets internet access which he hadn't had for a really long time.
But other than ITunes and my ebay Turbo Lister program not being compatible yet, we are really fine and I feel like a huge weight is off my shoulders. My printer/scanner/copier (which I read online wouldn't work) installed itself! Without installing its software! Erin can do Itunes and I can list on the old computer and we will just share with Andy until updates are available.
Alysha - Everyone has these out-of-whack times. I hope yours doesn't last too long. Can you plan a special dinner to make for Chuck for Valentine's Day and have the kids at someone else's house?
Lauren - it's amazing how you still need to watch your food even when you're really working out a lot. I've only lost 10 pounds and a lot of inches which has resulted in a lot of my clothes fitting again but I finally realized how much I've been eating and how much more progress I could have made had I been counting WW points (portion control). It is weird though because I fit into a pair of pants this week that I was only able to wear when I was 20 pounds lighter (but not exercising). I think that says a lot for the quality and intensiveness of my working out.
Sue - have a wonderful cruise! I wish I was expecting a bathing suit from LE that I would actually be able to wear somewhere!
Leigh - I'm sorry the girls are sick. I hope they're better soon and you and Al don't get it.
Cumulus - have a wonderful "thanksgiving" for DBF's BD! I love turkey and every Thanksgiving I wonder why I only make it once a year.
Erin - we haven't had any snow either. Here it is February and I haven't used the shovels at all. I have used the ice melt though - our wind chill has been below zero for a couple weeks now.

Good luck with the interview! I had that problem too when I was working at my last job and trying to get out of there...you get creative with the excuses, trust me...I've used:
1) appointment at the bank
2) yearly gyno
3) DH has to have a small procedure done and needs someone there to drive him home from the hospital (lame, I know, but they bought it...)
If I think of any more I'll let you know...I was the queen of excuses back then, I must have gone to 20 interviews in 4 months and they never suspected anything :D

Hmmm...not sure I can help with the excuses, but good luck! :) Yes - I need to do something for my mind before I lose it completely! :D
Alysha - Everyone has these out-of-whack times. I hope yours doesn't last too long. Can you plan a special dinner to make for Chuck for Valentine's Day and have the kids at someone else's house?
Loren - Glad things went okay with Vista.
As for carting the kids off....we don't know anyone well enough around here! That's part of my problem.......it's hard to meet people stuck out here in the country. No friends, no babysitters..........you get the picture. I think that's what's made this adjustment so hard - when I moved to IN, I started making friends immediately because my kids were little and I belonged to a MOMS Club.
My out-of-whack feeling has been around for quite a while, so I don't think it's going away unless I actively start doing something to help it go away. Getting out of the house and getting some exercise sounds like a good start......
I think I may try to start helping out in school or local libraries with shelving or whatever....get me out and my mind off of whatever's eating me at the moment.......
Okay, so that's two goals for myself for next week - find an inexpensive place to exercise and start volunteering! :)
Hello to the others who have joined in today! :)

Oohh, Loren, that's not a bad idea about a repairman...
I can't use gyno because the real one is coming up soon and I've used the procedure before but it was real, so I actually could possibly use it again. I hate making up all of these excused because I work for very nice people, they just aren't helping me professionaly and they don't give DH insurance or me any retirement options...

The funny thing about this work excuse conversation is that Erin asked me this morning about taking a mental health day today. She never misses school because I won't let her if she's wishy/washy not feeling well (take a Tylenol and go to school) unless of course she is really sick. She's very healthy and hasn't missed a day so far this year.
She had a quiz in English, which was right before lunch so I said go to school through English, take your quiz, then go to the nurse with "cramps" and have them call me to come get you.
So we are both planning a 1/2 a mental health day today! I'm just waiting to see if she really calls me! :D

Hi everyone!
Alysha, I'm sorry you're in a funk. I know how that is and it's really hard to pull yourself out of. I hope that you are able to find a place to workout cheaply and that you're able to start getting involved somewhere so you can meet some people.
Lauren, I'm crossing my fingers again for you. Would you believe a recruiter called me on my direct work line yesterday saying someone had given them my name for a company expanding to Colorado? First off, how the h*ll did you get my direct work line? I don't think most of my friends or family have it. Second, umm, you called me at work! I answered it on speaker, it would have been really funny if my boss was in here. Finally, I told her that I love my company and I'm not going anywhere. I really, really, REALLY don't want to change companies again for a very long time (if ever), I love it here, I love my colleagues and I think my boss is grooming me for management.
Sue, I'm am looking forward to a trip to Florida some time in May or so. Just to recuperate after ski season. Enjoy your cruise!
Leigh, I'm sorry the girl are so sick. I've been fighting something for 2 weeks now. Last week it ko'd me and this week I just have that hacking cough and a killer headache. I don't have any prescription meds though so I hope yours help to provide quicker, more complete recovery.
Erin, I found that Alka Seltzer Cold medicine both day and night versions have really helped me. I gave in and took the night time one again last night (I had stopped for most of the week) since I haven't been sleeping well and waking up coughing so bad I was choking. It worked wonders for a full night's rest. Give it a try if you can. I hope you make to your dinner tomorrow night.
Well, I'm up to the mountains again tomorrow. This is a bumps race and the kiddos are really fun to watch in it. It's not timed, it's all about technique and style. My cousin is going to come up to help me and watch so that will be fun. We had a lovely night out this week and it just reminds me how thankful I am that our relationship recovered from the nightmare roommate situation. Actually, neither of us talk to the other roomie any more and they've been friends since they were 12.
I have to laugh at everyone feeling couped up. Winter is my busy time so I'm starting to think about finally having a break. Actually, next weekend we don't coach and I'm taking Valentine's day off in protest and going skiing by myself.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. :)
ETA: Umm, sorry Loren, didn't mean to skip you. I'm glad things are smoothing out with the new computer. I expect an influx of support questions here to find out if our software is compatible. I don't know the answer to that yet actually.

Sounds better than what I'm taking  ...Italians are all about the home remedies...stepdad sent my mom over yesterday with his latest concoction....DH and I are VERY anti-med if we can help it so I gave it a try...it's really helping though...I don't know the whole process but I know he boils garlic, lemons, white grapes, and ginger and then puree's and strains out the solids...you take an ounce at a time...takes awful but it's working - I had a REALLY bad cough yesterday and it's alot better and my fever went down...fingers crossed the fever is gone tomorrow, cough or no cough we're going out to dinner!

Good morning all
Linsley - I tried to schedule my interviews last thing of the day, I would work through lunch and just leave early saying I had an appointment. But, I also made it clear when I was hired that I needed that type of flexibilty.
I had orientation at Target on Tuesday and was supposed to start training the week of the 19th. They called yesterday to see if I could work last night (no...Alex had a wrestling meet) and today (yes). So...I'm working 10 - 5. Something tells me that I'm going to be a very tired lady after standing all day working a cash register.
We finally are getting rain....rained yesterday, raining today, rain tomorrow, etc. I know we need it but I don't like rain.
Alysha - good luck with your two goals. I think meeting people and getting out of the house will really help your mood.
Loren - the boys are seldom sick so once a semester or so, I let them have a mental health day. I think everybody deserves one occasionally :)

Back from Friday's Body by Design class. :p
suebear37 - Have a blast on your cruise! We took the kids a few years ago on a Princess cruise that sounds similar to yours. It was Matt and my first time cruising and we can't wait until we can take another!
Erin - I hope your remedies help, you feel better, and you and Marc can have a romantic evening together. ;)
Alysha - I'm going to take your advice. In our town there is one woman who arranges for subs. The Assn't Superintendant of schools gave me her number and name when I interviewed. I'll call her and introduce myself. I told them I'm willing to be an aid or teacher's sub ... but elementary only. As a Mom with kids in the middle and high schools, I'll stick with elementary age kids, thank you. :p
Leigh - Hope the girls are better soon!
Tyra - Hope you like working at Target. It might be a good break from the computer work you've been doing.
linsley - what kind of deck are you putting on? We enlarged our deck last summer and went with one of the composite products. Everyone knows Trex, but we found so many interesting products available. We really like the one we picked, although I have found, because it's plastic, it does get icy in the winter. We don't use the back deck now, except to let the dog in and out. Good luck with the interview!!!!
Loren - I was hoping all went smoothly with the IT guy and you accomplished what you needed to. We're going to get another computer when I have a cashflow. :p The four of us are always in queue in the evenings to get on-line. In addition to the pc, we have an old laptop that isn't working well, so it's so slow, and Matt has a work laptop we can use when he's home.
Robyn - Thanks for the support! I'm so thrilled for you that you like the job and they like you! I try to remain positive and tell myself it's a numbers game. I'm optimistic I'll find something that will work out and allow me to move forward.
Cumulus - Have fun cooking/eating!

Ok, I'm back, meeting is done, and that was the last one.
Alysha,
I'm sorry you are in a funk. Sounds like some time out would be good for you.
Lauren,
Enjoy your night out, and I will second (or third) the recommendation to get to know people at the school (s) where you'd like to sub.
Suebear,
Enjoy your cruise!
Erin,
I hope you feel better and get to enjoy your night out. I have to work til 8:00 on Valentines. Except we've been married 11 years and DH's comment was "I guess we don't have to celebrate if you're working". Although, he was just kidding.
Linsley,
Good luck with your interview! I'd suggest just saying you have an "appointment". You really don't need to give more detail.
Loren,
Enjoy your Mental Health day with Erin!
Robyn,
Have fun in the mountains.
Tyra,
Just make sure you have good shoes. Also, if you're not totally against hose try some support hose. When I worked on my feet all day I started wearing support hose. They really made a big difference in how my legs felt at the end of the day. Now I only wear support hose.
Gotta do the grocery list, and run some errands.
At least the laundry is done, and the downstairs is clean.

Hi, everyone!
DH is off to Mississippi to look at a tanker for the fire department. He left REALLY early, and I couldn't get back to sleep.:( I'm doing laundry and cleaning bathrooms! I had to stop doing that to see what was wrong with the Dyson (strings around the brush), so that side-tracked me for a few minutes! Then, of course, there's y'all...;) I want to have the house clean for him when he gets back, but since he does most of the vacuuming and floor-washing, I think I'll settle for 'picked up!':D No big plans, here.
Alysha -- I think you've hit on a good formula to get out of your funk... do they have a Friends of the Library club? A good way to meet people...
Suebear -- enjoy your cruise! What bathing suit did you buy? I just got a catalog from LE yesterday, and was thrilled to see some cute suits with a "1" leg!:)
Erin -- I feel your pain about no nights out! That first year is an adjustment, and if it's only the lack of socialization you're having a problem with, you're in good shape! Could you invite friends over? Or is it time out with DH that you're missing...
Leigh -- hope everyone's healthy soon! It's great that you and DH can work from home at these times!
Cumulus -- great idea about Thanksgiving in February! I love the meal, and DH loves the leftovers, so we try to do this whenever it's not too hot! I can't think about it in the summer, 'cause I cook the turkey at 450  and when it's 103 outside...
Lindsley -- I think I would just use the "appointment" excuse... it is true, and you don't have to share what kind of appointment... Good luck on the interview!
Loren -- great news about the IT stuff... you're the first one I know to have Vista... Tell me how you like it, once you've used it a bit.
Robyn -- enjoy your time off next weekend! And good luck to the kiddos this weekend!
Tyra -- I second the support hose for standing... they have knee-hi's with open toes, so you can comfortably wear them with socks and athletic shoes! Don't most of the Target employees wear pants/jeans? No one will know!;)
Lauren -- Body by Design! Wow, that sounds energetic! Sending admiring thoughts your way...;)
Hopefully, we'll go out to dinner tomorrow. If not, I can scrape something up to eat here;) and we can try to catch up on our tivo'd programs!
MISSINDI

We're going to the Caribbean on our cruise out of Miami... we go to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay Jamaica, & Labadee, which is Royal Caribbean's private beach off the coast of Haiti. Jamaica is the only place we haven't been to yet. We're excited to go!!!
Oh so jealous! We did two cruises last year, but we're skipping this year since I'm pregnant. :( But we are doing a long weekend in Disney in April. :D
Last February, we did the Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya and Grand Cayman trip out of Ft. Lauderdale. Loved Key West and Costa Maya the best. In October, we did one from here that included Labadee, Haiti - so very relaxing! Can't wait to go back next year. Have a great time!

linsley - what kind of deck are you putting on? We enlarged our deck last summer and went with one of the composite products. Everyone knows Trex, but we found so many interesting products available. We really like the one we picked, although I have found, because it's plastic, it does get icy in the winter. We don't use the back deck now, except to let the dog in and out. Good luck with the interview!!!!
!
Lauren, we're just putting on a regular wood one and enlarging it because the current one is probably thirty years old and quite! Also, we plan on moving next spring so no compostite for us on this house!

Hello everyone. I haven't been around for quite some time but I still see many familiar faces so I thought I'd drop in and say "hi" It's nice to catch up on everyones Friday's across the country.
I'm home sick today as well and just wanted to chime in on this comment. I'm also very anti-med and I've found that oil of oregano works wonders for sore throat/coughs. I was awful yesterday, but much better today. I stayed home again though just to make sure I didn't wear myself out.
Alysha, thanks for subbing! At this time of the year many teachers need you!!
Alright, back to my sick routine of Law & Order marathoning. We don't have a tv, so DBF got me season 2 on DVD :o

Once again I'm a late arrival. But I brought appetizers! Someone let me know when it's happy hour and we'll convert from koffee klatsch to cocktails!
Alysha, while I haven't been in your literal situation, I think most of us go through a "defeated" period: job or relationship is getting you down, no forward momentum in life, etc. But good for you for making the effort to find a gym and volunteer opportunity. Might brighten things up *and* help you meet people.
Loren, I think that's really nice of you give DD the out for the afternoon; she works hard and shows up every day, and who can't use a little reward? Funny what you said about seeing if she ends up calling, though. How many times did I go to work thinking, "I'll leave after that meeting" or "just get a couple of things taken care of"...then it's 6:00 and so much for leaving early.
Sue, that cracked me up about being missed at the grocery store! I would love to see how freakishly off the stats charts I am for the number of stores/number of store visits I make each week. For heaven's sake, I cook dinner only, for two people, and that's five nights a week, max. Why am I constantly in grocery stores??
Seems it's been pouring for the last 24 hours, so of course I'm happy, happy, happy! January was one of the driest in 150 years! I felt cheated out of winter. Now the rain is coming down on all the blossoming cherry and magnolia and tulip trees, and I've got to get out to the park to see if the forget-me-nots and calla lillies are in bloom. :) DBF is off to Vancouver for the weekend, so tonight I'm going to do a bunch of closet cleaning/file organizing and whatnot. Tomorrow I'll go to the farmers' market and possibly take a walking tour of the Presidio, do some cooking for dear old mom in the evening, and then spend Sunday with her. I've already picked out Sunday's soup - BC Lentil and Keilbasa. Should be a nice weekend!

Oh, BTW, Erin and Em, I'm a big fan of lemon and garlic and ginger for a cold too, but prefer a more traditional application:
Chicken Noodle Soup with Dill
from Wendy w
10 cups chicken broth, reduced sodium or homemade
3 medium carrots -- peeled and diced
3 stalks celery
3 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
6 cloves garlic -- minced
4 ounces dried egg noodles -- 3 cups
4 cups shredded cooked chicken (approx 1 lb)
3 Tablespoons chopped fresh dill
1 tablespoon lemon juice -- or to taste
Bring broth to a boil in a Dutch oven. Add carrots, celery, ginger, and garlic: cook, uncovered, over medium heat until vegetables are just tender, about 20 minutes.
Add noodles and chicken, continue cooking until the noodles are just tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in dill and lemon juice.
Canice's notes: Celery was missing from the ingredient list so used 3 stalks. I only had 3 cups of chicken and that was plenty for me. Upped the dill, garlic, and lemon. 20 minutes is too long to cook the carrots and celery IMO - I'll try 10 next time.

Emily, do get oil of oregano at the health food store? Do you take it straight or put it in tea?
Good to see you out and about every now and then!

Hello to all who came after I left...... :) And thanks for the words of encouragement.
I keep thinking I'm coming out of my funk, but then it doesn't happen. Mostly because I'm not doing anything very differently than I was before - and as they say, do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always gotten. Time to mix things up a bit......but I have to stop just SAYING it (I've been saying that since last summer!) and DO it. I'm so frustrated with myself!
Today's job went really well - nice building, nice people, etc. I've gotten pretty good at trying to fill in the holes and figure out what to do when people in the school don't really know what's going on! It's hard to get thrown in with a group of teachers and kids you don't know and have never worked with before and try to actually be USEFUL. And I do like being useful and keeping busy as opposed to just sitting there like a bump on a log.
Good health thoughts coming to all those who are sick or have sick kiddos!
Is it cocktail hour yet???????????? :D ;)

No kidding! As much as I love my job there are times when I get frustrated. I just got a call from our 23 year old application engineer saying "FYI I can't program a dongle for you without knowing what you sold them." Umm, I sold them a fricken replacement dongle, put the same thing on it as before and don't take attitude with me, just ask.
3 hours to go and then I can head home to get ready for tomorrow and head to bed. It doesn't help that my head feels like a knife is being shoved through it right now.

...as they say, do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always gotten. How funny. Hadn't heard it put so simply, but I guess that sums it up! I mean for all of us when we find ourselves in a rut. Another I've always loved is the Chinese saying, "If we don't change direction we will surely end up where we are headed." :p

I like that one. I think I might have to put one of these in my sig line as a reminder every day.

Umm, I just re-read my last post and I don't want to offend anyone with the age comment. My colleague is great but this is her first job out of college and sometimes she just doesn't know how to function in an office setting and she likes to take attitude with me regularly so I finally snapped today. :o

Is it bad that I keep imagining my nice big glass of red wine that I get to have an hour and a half from now?:D
Alysha, I'm in one of those funks too. I'm going to take the time tomorrow when I have some time alone and write out what I need to do to feel better about myself. I know what I have to do, I just need to make a plan and do it! Hang in there!
Robyn, no offense taken on the age thing, though I'm also not that young!:p Hope your day goes faster and enjoy your weekend!

Well, it's cocktail hour on the east coast now. And will be shortly for my teacher friends out here :p They're finally returning to my favorite happy hour bar today and of course I'm at home. Ah, well such is life.
As to the oil of oregano, you can get it in both liquid and pills. Liquid it's harder to control the dosage, and you get less doses for the money. It's really expensive, usually around $15 - $18, but so worth it. When I'm feeling bad I take two pills in the morning, two at night, but I find it most helpful for when I'm just starting to feel bad, then I'll take two pills that night and feel better the next morning.
Canice, it is nice to see the rain, but I'm supposed to meet Wil tonight at Cobb's to see Sarah Silverman (can't let $35 tickets go to waste because of a cold right?) and I'd rather not be making the trek in the rain.

It's cocktail hour here too!
I survived...I wore tennis shoes. Target's dress code is red top/khaki bottoms so my tennis shoes fit right in. I'm not that sore (but I took a precautionary advil at lunch ;) ).
I don't think I have EVER worked a job where they enforce breaks. Seems pretty stupid to take a paid 15 minute break, 45 minutes before I leave for the day ... but who am I to argue with CA law;) :p

You won't get any raised eyebrows from me for thinking about that glass of red wine. ;) I remember saying someting similar at school once at about 9 a.m.! :D
Sorry you're in a funk too. I'm seriously thinking of starting a thread for those of us in a funk - a thread where we can share frustrations, goals, resources, etc. I need to really make this a serious focus for me or it's only going to snowball and get much worse. The last thing I want is for something like this to go into a clinical depression or something like that!

Glad the job went okay. I worked in retail and was sometimes on my feet for 12 hours or so - not fun, but doable if you have the right shoes.........but we were in women's clothing and weren't allowed to wear sneakers, so it was a little trickier to find a comfy shoe that was still dressy.

Raising hand ... I'm in! I need to do something ... literally and figuratively.
