I love the fact that things have gotten so bad at FN (remember my thread from last month?) that's he's actually come to speak almost warmly of Emeril, his first FN rant all those years ago. And when was the last time you heard him say, "Google 'I hate Jamie Oliver'". The bummer about his anti-FN tirades, though, is that I always thought it would be fun if he and Jeffrey Steingarten and Karine Bakhoum were panelists together on Iron Chef America. Don't think he'll be gracing their studios again!

FWIW, Sonja, I came across that rant when looking for his evaluation of the Top Chef contenders. It was posted last month but I couldn't read it since I hadn't watched the final two episodes. So if you watched TC, you might go back and scroll down for his take on that one. Remember when he said of Mikey's dish, "...despite its Flintstone-esque presentation...". LOL, not really the words of your typical critic.

Does anybody else watch Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations on the Travel Channel?

The episodes on Namibia(:eek: ), Canada, Mexican Border, Vietnam and dining at El Bulli are not to be missed!

Although South Korea was pretty interesting when the man told him to take good care of his sweet subservient daughter but as soon as they were out of site she turned into a party animal.

They're all pretty entertaining.

The Namibia(:eek: ) episode will haunt me for a long time(:eek: :eek: :eek: ). If you've seen it you know why I'm using multiple :eek: 's.

I don't know how he stuck to his mantra of "graciously accept everything served to you." I'm proud of him.

Tonight he goes to Ireland!

As much negativity as people seem to have toward Bobby Flay, I like him. And I've always wondered why the FN put him up to the throwdown idea. I find it insulting. So I really appreciated this comment:

"They seem to have noticed Bobby’s strong “negatives” among some viewer responses during focus groups--and decided to respond by subjecting poor Bobby to THROWDOWN; the object of which is to allow every web-fingered geek with a backyard grill--or half-mad muffin maker to proclaim, “I beat Bobby Flay at makin’ barbeque!” at the heart-warming end of show--before returning to tend their meth labs."

Oh, that makes me smile.

I just sat here and laughed out loud. He's apparently pretty deep into old John Waters movies. Those who lived for any length of time in Baltimore can appreciate just how bent that really is...:D :D

Religiously. Although I did miss the Namibia episode, and I've heard rumors, so I'm looking forward to it coming back around. Ireland was another excellent one, as was his visit to Rajistan, India last season. Really though, I don't think I've ever not enjoyed an episode. He really makes me want to travel.

I catch Bourdain now and then when channel surfing (I LOVE Samantha Brown!) but what happened in Namibia?? Do tell...without telling too much.

He graciously ate parts of a warthog that shouldn't be eaten. Or if they are to be eaten they should be thoroughly cleaned but weren't. And they happened to be cooked directly on the coals next to a teaming dungheap.

Namibia is beautiful and looks like a cool place to visit.

He was hunting and dining with a tribe of bushmen.

His commentary was priceless.

I love Anthony Bourdain. I cracked up when he kept talking about the laser surgery to remove Food Network's logo tattoo on that episode when he visited Thailand (I think it was) and got a tribal tattoo. He makes constant cracks about Food Network when he can get them in.

I can't imagine eating all the food he's had to eat and keep a straight face. He would be very entertaining to have over for dinner.
