FROZEN PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICHES!!! (http://www.smuckers.com/fg/otg/uncrustables/faqs.asp#3)
I am not kidding!
I read the directions-just thaw at room temerature FOR 30-60 MINUTES!!!
How freakin crazy is this!!
First: 30-60 minutes for a P&J? When I make a sandwich it's because I want something now!
Second: How good can frozen and subsequently thawed PB&J taste? I didn't look at the ingredients for chemical content but methinks it's full of chemicals!
Third: LAZY!!!! And I know there are some culinary inept people out there but surely they can spread stuff on bread!
Four: $3.00 for four sandwiches

I hate to break it to you, but these have been around for a long while, several years, that I can remember!
I think the thawing time is because the market for this product is busy parents who "don't have time" to make their kids lunches, so they put an uncrustable in the lunchbox and it is ready at lunchtime.
IMO, people who don't have time to make a regular lunch have their priorities and/or schedules out of whack! They should do what I do - have their kids make their own lunches! I got that idea from these BBs. My 12 and 9 yo kids make their lunch every night.
I have also seen these sold in places like amusement parks and so forth, I guess for kids who won't eat the usual hamburger/pizza/hotdog offerings there.

Dang I guess I'm sheltered...
I'm a peremeter shopper at the regular grocery store so I tend to miss all the craptastic crappity crap crap in the aisles.
It doesn't take more than a minute to make a PB&J so the "too busy to pack a school lunch" doesn't wash with me.

Yeah, they have been around for quite some time - they also have a "pre-grilled" grilled cheese version.

Ummm, I buy them. And ya wanna know why? My DD LOOOOVES PB&J sammies. But guess what? Mommy (me) has discovered that Peanut Butter is a HUGE trigger food for her. I mean, seriously, I will sit down (ok, let me be honest...I will stand over the sink) with the jar and a spoon and just eat the stuff till I am sick. So, I buy the PB&J Uncrustables (that's what they are called) and also the PB and Honey Uncrustables. I toss them in her lunch box while frozen, and by lunch time they are perfect.
I also do not keep any "good" desserts in the house for the same reason.

Eeew! That is completely nasty! Several of my neighbors have served their kids the PB&J ones and I always have to bite my tongue. My kids don't like white bread, so I don't have to worry about them ever eating one.

DS has a friend who's mom buys those and it isn't because she will eat a whole jar of PB......

That is the first good reason I have ever heard for buying them! I don't think you need to be embarrassed - that is very smart, in your case. :)

OK I'll give you that. I'm the same way with Nutella. Right off the spoon baby!!

BTW, Cost Plus sells Nutella in single servings (.7 oz) for .69 cents each. I bought 3 the last time I was there.

I've actually had the Uncrustables and they're pretty good. Tastes just like a regular PB&J on white bread. I tried them when I was at Disney World 3 or 4 years ago and we wanted to buy something from the hotel snack bar that would keep for a few hours to eat on the plane for dinner. They served their purpose and tasted good, too. :)

Well, while I think adrianna has good reasons for doing what she does, I have to say that otherwise, like Kristi, I am pretty appalled by this. I rarely buy processed/prepared foods and I have a hard time believing that a frozen, prefab PB&J would be as nutritious as one I would make myself using whole wheat bread, natural peanut butter, real fruit preserves, etc. Not to mention all the packaging etc....

Okay....I used to laugh at this item too.....until I walked the Breast Cancer 3-day (60 miles, 3 days). They had these at the pit stops. They were a definite crowd favorite. PB&J tastes sooo good after having walked many miles. That is the only time that I have eaten them....but they were so yummy. I agree, that it is too easy to make a sandwich, but I think that these have their place. In a world where (at least in my school district) we are not allowed to bring in homemade food anymore (everything has to be store bought and preferrably individually wrapped....don't even get me started on this one.) ......these prewrapped items are a nice alternative.

Are you SERIOUS??? Is this common???   That's almost enough reason for me RIGHT THERE to nix the idea of ever moving back...

This totally made me think of the recent "go-green" thread. My way to help the planet? Stay away from foods in 15 layers of packaging . That's definately one of my food producer peeves.
Otherwise, there is definately a nitch for them. And to think they handed them out at a charity walk?! What a great idea! On my long runs, I usually take along a plain peanut butter sandwich to eat along the way (which I stick in a ziploc bag and stuff int he back of my sports bra!)- but I agree, there is NOTHING like peanut butter after a good workout :)

yes...honeygirl, it is true. I know that there also is a big push in our state to ban food as a reward for kids. (Like ....a jolly rancher or two is the reason that our kids are overweight.....talk to parents who use McDonalds like their own personal chef.) Things are really getting ridiculous.

What is the reasoning behind no homemade items? I understand the no-food-as-reward rule, although I do think it is excessive, but I don't understand the no homemade items rule...

Oh my gosh, yes. A fat free jolly rancher will always do the trick, didn't you know that? ;) So EVERYTHING must be individually wrapped? Parents can't even send lunches with their kids that are homemade?
That's unreal, and I don't deal easily with that kind of stupidity. Also makes homeschooling sound like a very nice option!

That is going on here too, and it's quite ironic because if you walk through the cafeteria lunch line in the high school where I work, you'll see french fries, tater tots, and pizza swimming in grease EVERY DAY. Kids also don't exercise, and yes, some of their parents think Happy Meals are one of the food groups. But yet if we hand out suckers to kids on Valentine's Day, we're likely to get reprimanded. Could we perhaps look at the big picture?

Food safety and liability. Not every home kithen is clean.
I think she's just talking about things like bringing treats from home to share with other kids not kids bringing their own lunches?

Another reason is that some kids have potentially fatal food allergies, so serving pre-packaged treats that have all the ingredients listed eliminates the fear of a possible problem.
My daughter attended a preschool where none of the children could bring nuts of any kind (or peanut butter sandwiches) because a child in the class had a nut allergy.

I have a Pampered Chef sandwich sealer:
https://www.pamperedchef.com/ordering/prod_details.tpc?prodId=33&words=sandwich
I make my own uncrustables. I make a whole loaf at a time and stick them in my freezer. I control the type of bread, p.b. and jelly that they eat. It only takes 15 minutes out of my weekend to make a weeks worth of sandwiches for my kids.

In our school district, homemade foods are still allowed. But you're not allowed to bring in anything in a fast-food wrapper or cup. So you can't stop at Mickey Mac's and get a happy meal for the little tyke if they forget their lunch. I think this is a great rule. :)

OK, I thought it meant no homemade lunches. I understand the reasoning, but it is excessive IMO. But I would be FURIOUS if I couldn't make my own kid's lunch!!

I would never spend much of my money on this type of product and I would not want to feed it to my kids regularly because it is hardly good for them but I did get a few boxes when they first came out and I could get them really cheap with the sale and coupon combo. DS didn't like them at all (he has a great palate) but I loved them.:o Oh so good! I haven't had white bread in years and years and this stuff sticks to the roof of your mouth and has gobs of jelly... Yummy.
Of few stories to share about overweight kids:
DS was at karate class last week and there was an overweight girl in there. At the middle of class it is routine for the class to go and have a water break at the water cooler. Well, the overweight girl goes to mommy for her juice box and crackers! There isn't even peer pressure to have junk at this time since every other kid gets a little dixie cup of water at the cooler!
On DS's T-ball team last year there was an obese boy. All the parents try to bring relatively healthy treats for the kids, like granola bars and peanut butter crackers. Well, the obese boy's mother (who was also overweight) brought Ding Dongs. Also, one day after a game the boy was walking to the car when his mom says, "Oh, don't you want to get something to eat from the snack bar?" With the only things from the snack bar being junk.
Just this morning on the radio a woman was telling a story that started with her taking her daughter to Starbucks this morning so she could have something to drink before school.

That is an excellent idea (if I were still making lunches for my kids). DS did like the uncrustables, but preferred the cheese ones which were harder to find. I didn't think they looked very filling--I would probably want two!!
