Morning everyone!

We have another 2 hour delay this morning so I thought I'd start the thread.:)

My weekend was good - Saturday I spent all afternoon running errands.. no exercise other than walking around!!

Yesterday as DH worked on the basement I did BSS3 with Stephanie. Always a good hour workout. I need to do more of this as my knees are so achey. I'm going to try and take advantage of the delay and get back down there before school today!!

My goals for the week are again 3 workouts of some sort. The boys start swimming lessons at the Y on Wednesday and it's 2 1/2 hours of sweating at the pool - maybe I'll sweat some pounds off!!;) So I guess I need to workout today, Tuesday and Thursday. There. They are scheduled.

My weight has been fine but it's my body that telling me I'm not being consistent. (I'm getting old!) Achey knees - yuck.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!!! Here's to an icy Monday - I'm ready for spring!!!!:o

OK it’s a gloomy Monday here:( . We got quite a bit of snow over the last two days, so much so that the girls were up to their bellies where it had drifted but they seemed happy to romp in it. I didn’t workout on Thursday, Friday or Saturday – hanging my head in shame:o . So I decided I had to get back to things on Sunday. I did my lower body, trunk work and for cardio I did treadmill – my speed interval program which is about 76 minutes long. I know she wants me to cut back to an hour and a half max but just the lower body and trunk work (not including PT or the other stuff which I didn’t do) took me an hour and 25 minutes:eek: . So that leaves me what 5 minutes for cardio!! Anyway, I followed my workout up with the Firm’s 5 day stretch day 5. Felt good to workout again.

DF has decided to go off a number of his med’s which should mean the end comes faster.:( It also means that he is very weak and tired; I could tell when I talked to him on Sunday. DM is finally going for a physical, she realizes that she has been neglecting her health because of DF and that is not good. And with hospice she now goes for a daily walk which she needs for her mental health if not her physical health. :)

And then I got an e-mail from Rita that says she is 80% sure that as of June 1 she is moving back down to the cities so I will be trainerless again.:( This totally stinks as I have seen so much progress with her help. And as she says she knows of no other trainers in the area.

So as you can see there are several reasons to be gloomy for me, but I will pull myself up by the bootstraps and get on with things, can’t wallow in self-pity as it does no good. So tonight is upper body, trunk and a short video workout (I promise!). And the inspirational thought for the week….(drum roll please)….

“We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as
impossible." --Vince Lombardi

Charisse - Thanks for starting the thread this week and big old high five for starting your workout week with a bang! Good workout yesterday but take care of those knees and a gold star for already planning for Tuesday and Thursday.

See everyone tomorrow

I went right down into the dungeon after posting this am and did Cardio Blast with Lisa Kay - 35 mins of step. Good short workout. 1 down for the week!!

Making Psycho chicken tonight and the house smells divine!!!;)

Engineer - ugh. I'm hoping between now and June you and Rita can shore something up for you!!!! No need to hang the head in shame - we all go through our "rest" points. Good news is that it's Monday - new week and you did workout on Sunday.

I'm hoping the last part of your DF's journey is without pain. This is a tough time. Glad hospice is in place and your DM is realizing she needs to take care of herself.

Here's to Tuesday!!

Hi Guys --

I'm posting today to be part of the community even though I don't plan to exercise (not like me). I had a rough weekend and when I went to the dr. today, it turns out I have strep throat. This is the thing that knocks me down. I have no idea why I am so susceptible to this. I get it about once a year and it feels terrible. I talked to the Dr. and he said because I'm a salesperson, I'm shaking hands and hugging (yes, I'm a hugger) people who have it, but don't have the symptoms yet. He also says that I'm working too hard (not enough sleep) and I've worn down my immune system (he's right again, I've been working major hours these last two weeks). Actually, I think the major drain on my immune system isn't my working ... it's dealing with my DH's anger. It seems that recently his reaction to anything is ANGER. Very trying.

Is it ok for me to talk about fear here? I wonder because I think I may have decided just to not do fear when I was about 13. I grew up in a very fear based family and decided it didn't work well so I wouldn't do it. Now that I'm a old married lady (24 years on March 5th), the major issue between myself and my husband is fear. He is very moody (this is not just my opinion) and I am usually the one who figures out how to solve things. I have noticed that whenever there is a crisis of any kind, people (sibings, bosses, friends) come to me. I don't really think I have any kind of special wisdom, except that I refuse to fear. The whole reason I am even talking about this is that right now I am sick and don't have a whole lot of energy for any thing else. I forgot to say ... it is very rare for me to be angry. In fact, the only thing that makes my angry is repeated impatience.

Anyway, I digress because I am tired. I wanted to offer support to Engineer, your DM , and your DF. Engineer if you would like to email me at juli.nimitz@roidatapro.com, I would like to share the story of the near-death experience that my grandmother (now gone) and father (still hear) both had, if it would be a comfort to you. The one thing I would like you to know is that your DF will be escorted by a loved one who passed before. He will not be alone.

Tonight, I plan to take it easy and hopefully the antiboditics will kick in and I will feel well enough to w.o. tomorrow.

My best to all -

Juli

Can I say I was a success last night?:) Well if you call completing my workout in under 2 hours a goal then I was a success. Only 1:55 to complete upper body and trunk work followed by Firm Parts Light Aerobic Mix. It’s only a 40 minute workout so that skims quite a bit of time off. Still not down to the hour and a half thing but it’s closer! :D A lot of vol 2 with Janet in that one and I really dislike that, so I should have picked something else but it is still humbling – with the darn HRM beeping dang near the whole time! I didn’t take the arms completely out but I did stick with only 3lbs weights in hopes of not going too high.

Not sure what I’m going to do tonight. I could do lower, trunk and treadmill or I could do a yoga tape and just focus on stretching. I’m kind of leaning toward the later, and I’m not sure why. Oh well I may feel guilty and have to do the full workout. ;)

I’ve got a $35 gift card that expires tomorrow so I have to spend it today and I’m looking at what else…workout videos. :p So we’ll have to see what wins, I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Juli - my thought on this thread is we are here to support each other in what ever areas we need as they all figure into our overall health so please feel free to post, exercise or not! Yuck to the strep throat and I hope that you get over it soon. Knock wood I haven't had it since I was 6 and they took out my tonsils. Prior to that it was like every week it flaired up - my poor DM had a sick kid from birth to age 6. And I wasn't sure about old is that you are 24 or you've been married 24? But you certainly aren't old and DM is just like you face a problem and solve it so I think I have some idea of what kind of person you are. Going out on a limb here and feel free to cut it off if I'm wrong but is part of the immune problem anger that is turned inward? Perhaps a regular kick boxing or martial arts thing to let some of it out would be good? I'll get an e-mail off to you. But as far as afterlife all I know is that my dying aunt would have conversations with her son who had died 20 years earlier and I swear he was there for her. We couldn't see him or hear him but she sure could (OK 60 pills + morphine shots could contribute). But I like to think that he was coming to make the transition easier.

Charisse - Big Gold Star for you getting that workout out of the way. I'm sure the chicken was wonderful. OK workout today right?

Take care of yourselves and I’ll be back tomorrow.

Woo hoo!! Marched myself right down to the basement and did BSS4 with Pam - weights.:) 2 down!!

Juli - I absolutely agree with Engineer. We're here for support - exercise/healthy life!~:) She has an interesting point - When I took kickboxing it was great therapy for releasing stress of all kinds (work/family) Something to think about. Please take care of yourself - don't push it and give YOURSELF a hug too.;)

Engineer - yea!!! Under 2 hours - good for you! Go for the stretching - it's ok to take a break from the cardio stuff!!! When do you meet with Rita again?

As far as the afterlife - before my Grandmother passed away last summer, I know she had conversations with my Grandfather and talked about dancing with him. Somehow it was very comforting.

My chicken - uhhhh.... I had a 6.9lb roaster that I started at 4pm. Somehow I thought it would be done by 6:30........ We didn't eat until 7:50pm last night:rolleyes: DUH!!!! Oh well, it was good. Tonight - shrimp!

Tomorrow is my day off - the boys start swimming lessons. Wish me luck on 2 hours in the pool area!!!:o

Happy hump day to my fellow seekers of healthy living!;) Well I didn’t give into my own guilt trip and instead I did just a yoga workout. I picked the Firm Power Yoga and on most moves I did the advanced form but there were some that well I am a beginner.:o It felt really good to stretch and it was only 30 minutes long so I had time to do some reading, and laundry and ….

Tonight Rita is supposed to come over but we are under a winter storm warning starting at 6 pm so I told Rita if it looks nasty don’t come. So I may or may not have a training session tonight. If not I will certainly do a real workout of some sort. Perhaps someday I will be able to do that side plank and pick up the top leg….someday;) .

I used my gift card for three videos from deepdiscount.com. I got the two new Keli Roberts workouts – flexibility and ASAP and Patrick Goudeau’s ABC workout. In 5 to 7 days I should have them. I’m pretty excited. :D And I’ve been thinking that perhaps the thing to do to prevent overtraining is to have a 3 day rotation – upper body, lower body and stretch. So on two days I do either upper or lower work, trunk work and cardio and on the third I do yoga or stretching or something. Does that sound reasonable?

No word from the folks – so I guess no news is good news and I saw where they are going to get more snow. Hopefully not a lot. I’ve got my fingers crossed that the worst of this storm goes south of us as Tubby is supposed to have that lump removed tomorrow and I’d hate to have to delay surgery any longer but if the vet’s can’t make it up here or we can’t make it to the clinic I guess it will have to wait.

Charisse - Two workouts down! Fabulous! It must feel good. As a former swiming instructor I hope the boys lessons go great and they have fun.

My we are a small group lately. Oh well I will keep posting, please anyone join in if you'd like. We are a friendly and supportive group.

Hopefully everyone is in full swing on a productive and healthy week and I will see you all in March.

Well the storm here didn’t really materialize, kind of bummed about that as I was thinking sleeping in and not going to work because of a blizzard sounded good. :p But we got Tubby to the vet’s for his surgery so I’m going to be a basket case until I hear that he’s ok. I weighted in this morning and I’m 2 lbs heavier than last week. I’m angry and depressed about that – but it is TOM and that could be contributing. And I have some DOMS today from yesterday’s workout; it’s just going to be kind of yucky day for me. :(

Ok as for yesterday I did my lower body and trunk work because Rita didn’t come out last night. She’s getting over a cold or the flu and the storm was supposed to hit about the time she would have left so it was best she stay home. That took me 1:05 so that left 25 minutes for cardio. Sure, you know me I got on the treadmill and did my speed interval program which takes 75 minutes but it went really well last night. My heart rate didn’t climb as fast and it didn’t stay elevated on the ‘off’ intervals – I figure that’s the rest I needed kicking in.:) Then I pulled out Cathe’s Total Body Stretching and did the basic stretch. If felt good and I finished the whole thing in 2:40. Hey it’s under 3 hours – but again I didn’t do the add-ons like PT, bosu jog or sidewalking.

Got an e-mail from DM and they were getting hit again with some snow. She had wrapped her elbow up and was going to use the snow blower as she has a doctor appt today and the hospice nurse was to come for DF also. She said he had a good day on Tuesday but that Wednesday was a really bad day. The bad days are more frequent. :(

Tonight provided everything goes well today with my baby Tub-let and the chiropractor I am planning on doing upper body, trunk and a short video workout. Oh and I checked and my order from deepdiscount has shipped so the countdown is on.

Take care everyone and welcome to March.

I've been a bit MIA! It's a really busy time at work right now and I'm trying to be good and not spend too much time here during work! And, I have no time to post at home usually. Anyway, I have been working out, really! Variety of stuff, I'm trying to do a couple weight sessions a week and cardio almost every day. Today I did Cathe's Low Impact Circuit. The first time I did it I didn't care for it too much, but today I thought it was really good. Guess I must have been in a better mood this time or something. I'm really trying to clean up my eating. I was trying on some pants this weekend and nothing fit! Or I looked like a sausage. :( Very depressing.

Engineer, I'm so sorry for what you are going through with your parents. I think it's good that hospice is there now. I've heard absolutely wonderful things about them. Please post about your Tublet when you hear something. Crossing my fingers everything goes well. I'm still amazed at the amount of time you workout almost everyday! Don't worry about the 2 lbs. I'm sure TOM contributed to it.

Charisse, how was swimming? I really need to sign up the kids for swimming lessons. Although the boys do OK in the water - they've pretty much taught themselves to swim. But I'm sure lessons would be good for them. Two of my boys just signed up for an outdoor traveling soccer team in the spring. Both in different age groups. So, I have a feeling we'll be quite busy in the next few months. Good job on the workouts this week!:)

Juli, yes, absolutely feel free to come here and vent or talk about whatever! Hope you are feeling better. I ordered some beginning yoga DVDs yesterday. I've never done anything even remotely resembling yoga in my life and am totally inflexible, so this should be interesting! But, I think it'll be good for me. I'll let you know how it goes!

Happy Friday everyone and I hope the weather is calm where ever you are.:) Yesterday was a taxing day for me. Tublet had his surgery and the vet called (via speaker phone as her hands were deep inside him:eek: ) to let us know that the tumor included the kidney and what did we want to do. After a brief discussion we determined that he has a good kidney and that she should removed as much of the tumor as possible (the whole kidney to be safe). She’s hopeful that she got everything and is sending it to the U for examination to determine if it’s malignant or what. Poor thing has a shaved side and stitches and drugs.:( But this morning he definitely was perkier even if he is still pretty unsteady. And while they had him under they cleaned his teeth (which they said were in very good condition) and clipped his nails.

My chiropractic appt was good and I loved the ‘swishy bed’ as I call it. Gave me time to think and take in everything that’s going on. Roads were horrible due to ice and finger drifts so it was a long ride home with a whimpering puppy. Then we got him settled and DH went back into town for the jam session but only he showed up. He played anyway as the bar manager asked to hear him. I so admire his courage to do that.:D

I worked out – upper body and trunk work and then I picked Cathe’s Low Impact Step workout. Ok, humbling is a good word for how I felt afterward. I sort of kept up but all those turns started to make me dizzy! Also I managed to keep the HRM from beeping a lot so I was feeling pretty proud of that. Celebrate the little things – eventually they add up to big things.;) Oh and all told it only took 1:50, only over by 20 minutes.

Email from DM let me know that she had made it to the Doctor and he gave her a cortisone shot to help with the elbow surgery aftermath. The hospice social worker and nurse came and I guess DF talked to the social worker for a while telling her about his career. DM said it was a so-so day; I’ll take that as a positive.

Tonight I’m going to stretch or yoga not sure which. Draft horse club organizational meeting tomorrow morning, but that’s all that is on my social calendar for the weekend.

Joanne - Tell those darn work people you need time to connect with us - to keep you sane!:p What a great variety, I so admire you for that. I'm very comfortable in my 'box' as DH likes to call it. I'm sure that a little clean up on eating and those pants will look great - gee whiz you already are an exercise afficiando (spelling not my long suit)

Have a fun and relaxing weekend and I will be back on Monday.

Engineer, I kept coming back here to check and see if you had posted about Tublet yet. Glad to here he's back at home with you. Poor guy. I'm sure he'll be feeling much better now that it's been removed. Crossing my fingers for good results from the lab. Great workout again! It's fun to do something different.

I've done much better in my eating this week and am already noticing a difference. Why does bad stuff have to taste so good, though?!

This morning I did Cathe's Butts and Guts with my seven year old critiquing me from the couch. I told him to do it with me. Pretty funny. He gave up after a couple lunges! Tomorrow should be upper body something and some cardio, although my son has an 8:30 dentist appt., so, we'll see.

Everyone have a great weekend!
