well I finally had 'the Grout Doctor' :p come out to look at our kitchen tile b/c for the life of me I can't clean it well. Luckily it is a very forgiving color!

He told us what the tile is, and can't understand why the previous owners would use them in a kitchen floor, but they did so here we are. He is going to strip what seal is left, clean them, the grout and repair the grout and reseal w/2 coats. We have a small galley type kitchen - 135 square feet. He is going to charge us $470. He said the sealant is very expensive.

He also said I should only clean it with plain water after he is done.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff on the floor? Does that price seem outrageous? I have no idea. Now i just have to decide if it is something we feel is necessary to spend money on to get the house ready to sell.

The sealer I put on my Travertine was $50 per bottle. I think I used about 2 of them on 400 square feet. We put on two coats and it should be good for about a year I think. The bottle does say for much longer, but I was told by the installer not to go that long.

There is a special marble cleaner that Home Depot stocks. It is in a yellow bottle that I use when my floor is particularily dirty.

wow really? I had no idea about this stuff. I just thought once it was sealed that was it. it is sealed. :o well this guys says it is $100/bottle.

I know we could probably do half the work ourselves but we have pretty busy lives right now and a lot of other things to get done besides this so I think we are just going to pay someone to do it. It doesn't seem like too hard a job, but I guess this is one I am going to have to let someone else do.

Thanks for you help. Oh, we thought our tile was Tavertine, but it is so soft we knew that couldn't be right. It sure looks like it though.
