We have a Dacor hood fan above our cooktop that has removable screens. They are a stainless color (silver) and are like a mesh.

Any ideas what I can soak them in, or spray them with, to remove the grease, dirt, etc that builds up? Maybe a good degreaser?

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Will they fit in the dishwasher? Are they dishwasher safe? If so, just wash them in the dishwasher. My Kenmore hood screens come out nice and clean just running them in the dishwasher.
If you have to soak them, use Dawn. It's been said over and over on this message board that Dawn is the go to grease remover. (Well there have been other recommendations too, but I think Dawn is usually the most recommended. It really works too!! )

If it's a true Dacor hood, then they are dishwasher safe. My owners manual specifically said you could run them through the dishwasher. If they're really gunked up, maybe soak them in Dawn like Hammster suggested first, then run them through.

I didn't even think of the dishwasher! :o

I will may try soaking them first, though.

Thanks!!

I had a Viking range with the pop up exhaust fan. I cleaned my screen in the dishwasher.

I put mine in the dw also! Makes them sparkle.

I have always used dishwashers to clean the screens of whatever fan I had. It works great.

With my present downdraft Jenn-Aire range, I wash the screens along with various other parts in the dishwasher every two weeks. It is zero work and the screen never gets seriously greasy.

Another tip..hairbrushs and combs clean great in the dishwasher, too. Top shelf.

I too put my stove parts, screens and element hardware, knobs, everything in the dishwasher.

I also run the dog toys thru the dishwasher, you know kongs, hard rubber balls and nyla-bones and even those sterile cows shins. Especially if I've filled one of them with peanut butter as a treat. Or after I make my rounds in the yard with a bucket and collect all the toys that have been taken outside and left and they've been buried in the dirt. I just throw the whole lot in the dw, without dishes of course, except maybe the dog bowls.

LOL! Wanda
