I need to make a birthday cake for someone at work.. her favorite thing is M&M's. So does anyone have a chocolate cake recipe with M&M's in it. Could be light or full fat-but preferbly lowfat. Thanks.

This isn't a recipe, but I'm an M&M lover as well, and for my birthday, my mom would always make a yellow cake with chocolate frosting and put M&M's all over the top and sides. Besides, I have a feeling that the coating might melt during baking if you actually baked M&M's in the cake, so it might not have the desired effect.

Not the lightest, but it looks rather cool! :D

I also like the idea of just covering the cake with M&Ms. Have fun!

Why not use a simple and delicious (and light!) recipe like EW's "Died and Went to Heaven Chocolate Cake" and stir some M&M's into the batter? The idea of frosting it, then pressing in the candies is great too- and looks fantastic. I've done it a few times myself! The mini ones are particularly adorable :o

ETA: another idea- make whoopie pies and roll the sides where the frosting kinda gushes out in the M&M's. YUM!! Kinda like an ice cream sandwich with M&M sides. How could that be bad? :D

Or you could make a "cookie cake" using any cookie cake recipe. Here is one I found. I would just sub M&Ms for the chocolate chips. You could dress it up with icing around the edges and more M&Ms if you like.
