Six of us were able to attend the Milwaukee-Area Cooking Light Event on Thursday, July 27th at Trinity-Pilgrim United Methodist Church. Those attending were Cathie, Anne, Kate, Linda, Krystie and Cheryl. Our conclusion? We will definitely do this again! We all agreed how pleasant it was to go to a gathering where we knew everything on the menu would be low fat and delicious.

Pot Luck was the order of the day for our first event, and we were each to bring a favorite CL dish (and the recipe) to share. Cathie brought Mediterranean Orzo (June 1994), Kate brought Marinated Vegetable Salad from June 2000, and Krystie brought a southwestern hors d'oeuvre tray consisting of spicy-baked pita chips, black and white bean dips, bean & corn salsa and avocado/pea guacamole (all available on the website recipe finder). Linda brought a ringer- a delightful Sunshine Chicken Salad that she lighted up for the occasion. Anne and Cheryl brought our scrumptious desserts. From Anne, we enjoyed Linzertorte from June 2000 and from Cheryl came a serious, Seriously Lemon Lemon Tart from June 1999.

Trinity has a terrific kitchen and the rent is reasonable! There is a professional baking oven with multiple racks. Cathie is going to contact the Church to see if a parishioner can teach her to use the oven. If so, we are proposing that our next event should be Pizza Night- where we will make the pizza and calzone recipes from January/February 2000. Depending on the number of people who sign up in advance, we would have one person bring the ingredients for the dough, and then pairs be responsible for ingredients for calzones and pizzas, with maybe 1 salad and 1 desert (lightened tiramisu?). We'd all be involved in cooking the pizzas and calzones on-site. Kate made the dough before, but it will be new territory for the rest of us.

If you are interested in joining us in September, please post a response! The church kitchen is fairly large-so the more the merrier!

I can't believe no responses! The two dates to vote on are Sept 14 or Sept 21.
