It is a perennial problem, for those who have them. I think the short answer is "no, not really." They're usually genetic, and sometimes related to nutrition, sleep, and allergies. I have not only dark circles, but giant puffs under my eyes.

The puffs got better (a little) when I stopped letting the cats sleep with me, which sucks for the cats, but I guess I am allergic to the little critters to some degree.

One cream that helped a bit was a Firming and Brightening cream from Sage that had l-arginine in it. It wasn't a remarkable, miracle, gone the next day help, but after using it for a few weeks, the darkness was very definitely reduced.

I've seen even more improvement from my current routine, which is this:
At night, Benefit Eye-Con eye cream, after washing my face.

In the morning, Kiehl's Eye Alert, which is part of their "men's" line and meant to get jet-lagged boys' eye-luggage unpacked, but it was recommended for me by the nice young "I'm really an opera singer" lad at the Toronto Kiehl's, and it seems to do the trick for a lot of the puffiness. It has Vitamin C in it.

Then I apply Benefit Oo La Lift round the bags over and under my eyes, and then I use Smashbox Photo Op on the dark circle part. The Photo Op is subtle, and must be dabbed not rubbed, but it really brightens things up.

I also like the Smashbox I Prime concealer kit for those sleepless black-eye days. It's got a pink primer that brightens things up all round, and then a fantastic yellowish concealer for any remaining dark bits. It's very fine, so it doesn't sink into the tiny lines that those of us heading for a Certain Age might have.

The Physician's Formula yellow concealer wand worked for me, but the colour doesn't seem to be universal; it looks weird on a lot of people.

Lots of people seem to like Benefit Boi-ing; I hated it. It might work for people who wear more makeup. It's very heavy, emphasised my lines, and looked like spackle.

The only thing that has worked for me is cliniques workout make up!

The only thing Clinique that doesn't peel my skin off is their Almost Lipstick. Their other products are like poison to me.

This is what I have found to be the best for dark circles. It is expensive but it really works.
