View Full Version : It's Friday! Where's the Klatch?

Guess I'll have to start! I've seen some klatchers on the board, already, but no thread...

We are having a lovely day, today... Sunny and should be in the 70's, again. The sun was red, this morning, and DH, who was in the Navy, says that means bad weather ahead. I'll take today's weather, thanks!

So, he's down working on the boats, and I'm here, but I have house cleaning to do, and laundry! He'll be busy tomorrow, so I can catch up on Star Trek: Voyager, read my book and generally veg out! If it's still nice, I'll take the boys (goldens) down to the lake to rid it of those pesky tennis balls that keep, somehow, infesting the area right around our dock! ;)

Tomorrow is lunch and dinner out, while DH has a class at the fire station! I've got some paperwork to do, but the CLBB always calls it's siren song, instead!

Who else is going to klatch, today?

Sorry, I totally forgot that it's Friday!

Well, I'm down to 3 more weeks of coaching this year. I'm starting to get a little sad. :( I've had some wonderful compliments from parents (one was emailed to our head coach who forwarded it to me and my partner) and they sure are an ego boost. We've got 2 more training days and 2 more races to go. The final race is a parent/child gs/super g. We used to make it a downhill but the parents keep getting hurt. ;) Last year I had the dad of two of my kids take a crash into a safety net right in front of us. But, the day is a lot of fun.

I need to do some serious shopping for spring clothes, I'm having trouble with this 60 degree weather. It's supposed to hit 70 next week. I might try to run out at lunch or after work since I'll be skiing Sunday as well. Closing day is April 15th and I am determined to get as many days on snow as I possibly can. I can sleep after that. :p

Kay, that sun sounds marvelous!

I admit I was too lazy to start a Klatch thread! :o

Enjoy your relaxing weekend, Kay - sounds nice. :)

We will have a relaxing weekend too, thank goodness. Back in the middle of February we had a visit with SIL, BIL, 4 nieces and one nephew dog. That visit - which is always chaotic just from the sheer numbers invading our home - included one niece wetting my pull out sofa (she's 7, she should be beyond this  ) and SIL coming down with a stomach thing and vomiting and all that loveliness.

This past weekend, we had the visit with MIL and FIL. FIL has Alzheimers, so you never know what's going to happen next. I won't go into all of it - I'll save that for a separate thread - but it was NOT pretty. Sigh.

So, we are looking forward to no visits from anyone! At least not from DH's family! ;)

All we have going is a baseball batting cage practice for DS. I'm excited for baseball to start - I hate all the driving and the time involved, but DS is so much fun to watch. Such a fire in his belly - it's infectious!

Happy Friday All!

Sounds like everyone has the right weather for their plans. Hope y'all have a great time.

Robyn,
The race with the parents sounds like loads of fun.

Today we are heading to Houston for the Rodeo. A bus of 50 or so will be headed out at 2pm. Our favorite cowboy is singing later tonight at the Hideout and we'll see the actual rodeo and Pat Green on the main stage. I've been busy making some food for the road. A foccacia with a bruscehtta, a mascarpone spread with fresh thyme and kalamata olives plus some ranch dip for DH (he's become a less adventurous eater lately  ). We won't get back until about 2a so it will be a long day.

DS#3 is due home this morning as Spring Break starts today and I just realized I have no junk food in the house for him! He'll hae to buy some or survive until tomorrow afternoon. ;)

The rest of the weekend will be spent recovering form tonight!;)

I'll jump in! It has been a busy week at work. I normally do one 12 hour shift a week, but this week I have put in 32 hours! Needless to say the house is in desparate need of some attention.

This morning I need to get invitations sent out for DS's Eagle Court of Honor which is in three weeks. Still have a few more calls to make to get the program put together. He is having it with 4 other boys (or should I say "young men"?) so it will be a pretty big affair. Exciting, though! Tomorrow he is marching in the "Snake Saturday Parade", a KC tradition to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Hope fully the weather will cooperate!

Alysha, sorry to hear about your recent family visits...they DO sound a little chaotic. You are definitely due for a guest free weekend. It IS fun to watch kids get excited about what they are doing, isn't it?

Robyn, I finally got a pm sent to you with some ski questions. Your dad crashing into a safety net  is pretty much the kind of stories people keep telling me about skiing....not really boosting my confidence! :o With all of the happy parents you have, maybe you should be MY ski instructor! I hope I get someone VERY PATIENT!!!!!!

Kay, enjoy your beautiful weather and vegging time. Sounds wonderful!

ETA: Sneezles, your plans sound like a really great time! Have a blast!

I'll join...

So, we are looking forward to no visits from anyone! At least not from DH's family! ;)

Enjoy you non-visitors weekend! Nice seeing people but also nice to just have your house all to yourself too :)

Well, it's a lovely day in NYC today. I was pretty surprised when I found out it's quite a bit colder today (20 degrees with max 30 to yesterdays 45) but the sun is shining and the wind isn't blowing so it makes for a much nicer day. This weekend is supposed to be in the 50s and sunny, and wouldn't you know it, I'm out of town for the weekend! I will, however, be in Atlanta so I won't miss out on warmer weather at least :D

I'm working all day and then heading straight to the airport from here. It's going to be a crazy busy weekend but I'm looking forward to it. This is going to be my first time visiting GA and I don't go south often (Florida doesn't count;) ) - don't think I'll be able to do much sightseeing but still :)

Enjoy your Friday and weekends all!!

I just answered your PM here but let me address the fear I added here. :o It was the kids dad, not mine (though he was a coach for many years as his primary job). They were skiing at top speed down a very rutted out course on a snowy, cold day. Many of the parents are former racers as well (the one that crashed was) and this is their chance to get back in a competition level course. They often forget that their bodies don't work the same in their 30's and 40's. ;) Oh, and we require helmets to ski our courses, no helmet, no start. If you're doing that then you might want to rethink the instructor you have. :p

Oh, one thing I forgot to add in the pm. I don't know what level your at but if you are trying to get into parallel, it is much, MUCH easier on the quads/knees/ankles/calves/feet than the snow plow and most find it easier to ski in general. We tell the kids to think of french fries instead of pizza pie. :D If you prefer, think of oven roasted sweet potato fries. :p :D

Alysha, enjoy your relaxing weekend, you deserve it!

Sneezles, are we talking about Todd here? Oh, and I hope DS#3 doesn't keel over from starvation. :p

Well, I have a leisurely morning since I don't need to be at Target until 11:45. I'm hoping to squeeze in a pedicure because it has been months since I had one and I deserve the treat :D

I'm working both Saturday and Sunday during the day. Michael is an invitational track meet on Saturday and Alex has a wrestling banquet on Sunday night. I need to bring dessert and he wants chocolate mint so I think I'm making the CL Junior Mint Brownies.

Weather here is beautiful. Forecast is 70 today and in the high 70's by the end of the weekend/beginning of the week. I just hope it stays warm since I really prefer 70's to high 50's/low 60's.

Sneezles - have fun! I'm sure your son will survive without the junk food for a day

Alysha - sorry the visit didn't go well. Since I've started working with demented seniors, I understand your frustrations completely. Keep in mind that your FIL isn't doing it on purpose....

Ugh, I'm really sorry to hear about the stressful visits, Alysha; hope you have a wonderful relaxing weekend with the family.

Sounds lovely Kay! I love just pottering about and ticking things off lists on the weekend. Productive and relaxing at the same time!

Hope you enjoy shopping more than I do, Robyn! How can I go into Macy's - literally, it covers almost an entire city block - and not find, say, one top

Farmers' market in the morning, errands in the afternoon and then out to dinner. DBF has a friend in town and he asked me to make a dinner reservation for tomorrow. Hmm, am I *just* the person for the job, or the person you don't want to leave that to, unsupervised? I've been wanting to go to Ame (http://www.amerestaurant.com/home.html) since it opened, so that's where we'll go tomorrow. Can't wait!

Well, I enjoy some shopping. If it's tops or shoes I'm fine (actually really like shoe shopping) but go to bottoms of any kind and I hate life. Fortunately, it's still cool enough here that I'm not ready for anything shorter than pants so I've got some time there. I also know what stores I'm most likely to find something I like at, usually Ann Taylor Loft for tops (my closet should be an ATL commercial  ) and I found 3 there earlier this week and will be going back for a few more since my tax refund came in and I am in dire straights. I also need shoes so that should be fun.

Farmers' Markets are the one part of spring I am really looking forward to. Boulder's starts in April I believe but doesn't have a lot of produce for awhile.

tbb113
03-09-2007, 11:33 AM
I think everybody has different things that they hate shopping for. I can usually find pants and shoes with no problem...tops are a whole different story. My arms are fat...so jackets and botton blouses are a tough thing to fit. T-shirt type tops are easier...but the sometimes pull funny across my armpits.

I need to go to the Farmer's market as well. Alex has been asking for strawberries and I'm betting San Diego berries have made their way north....

Canice
03-09-2007, 11:47 AM
I saw some at the Marin farmers' market yesterday, Tyra! Didn't notice where they were from, though - I was looking for soap.

Things I hate to shop for includes pretty much everything except groceries! I had a suit tailor-made last year, and I wish I had the kind of money I could just go twice a year and have everything done for me! Describe what I want and pick out fabric - it was fun, and took a lot of work out of the process.

Yes, it is Todd! He played at the BBQ cook-off and drew a crowd of 93,000!! WooHoo!

And yes, I know my baby will survive!:p

I'm baaack! Got the bathrooms cleaned, the laundry started, fixed lunch and changed sheets! Now, for some computer time!!!:D

Ugh! Clothes shopping! And I have to buy a new bathing suit, too! Fortunately, things around here are pretty casual, but I do like to look nice for church... I'll have to go shopping in the closet, to see if anything from last year will fit! Why can't clothes shopping be as easy as grocery shopping!

AlyshaI totally hear about no visitors! We're just coming into house guest season, and they NEVER bring their own beach towels! How nice that DS is enthusiastic about a sport! That's great!

Today we are heading to Houston for the Rodeo. We won't get back until about 2a so it will be a long day.
Have fun at the rodeo! I've never been... must be fun, though! A nice welcome home to DS -- I'm sure he's glad to be home, junk food or not!;)

Eagle Court of Honor Oh! You must be SO proud! What a great accomplishment!

I will, however, be in Atlanta so I won't miss out on warmer weather at least :D -- don't think I'll be able to do much sightseeing but still :) You didn't say if you're going for work, or just visiting people. There's a lot to see and do in Atlanta... I'm only 2 hours away from the airport, so if there's time....;)

Tyra, enjoy your pedicure! The weather sounds lovely where you are, too!

Hi, Canice -- wish we had farmer's markets here -- you'd think, with all the produce here in the South, we'd be overrun with them, but NO! Have a great time at dinner. What fun, to be able to make a reservation anywhere you want! And there are SO many places to eat in SF!

Maybe I should hire out to do grocery shopping... at least, the food always fits!

You didn't say if you're going for work, or just visiting people.

Just me going for a work thing...well, potential work thing. The South Eastern Theater Conference is being held at the Hilton downtown. I get in quite late tonight and then all day tomorrow is going to be absolutely cray-zay :o There are optional events being held in the evening but I am much more likely to go exploring (or hole up in my room and order room service :p) . I'm catching a flight really early on Sunday morning so it really is going to be a whirlwind visit - ack!!

Robyn, thanks for the tips! I'll keep the parallel vs. snow plow in mind when I go to ski school. I am a TOTAL beginner, so I don't really know what they mean, but I'll listen for them. Anything that is easier on the knees sounds good to me!

Tyra, I may have asked you last year, but what events does Michael do for track? Track practice just started a week ago here, so no meets for a few more weeks yet. Just as well since the weather is only just now warming up.

Oh! You must be SO proud! What a great accomplishment!

Thanks, Kay. Maybe just a little! :D It was a long road, but he got so much out of Scouts that it was worth every bit of it. I am hoping the COH turns out really nice and something all of them will remember.

I haven't heard you mention him in awhile but I vaguely remember a fascination with him by many on the board. :D

I haven't heard him perform in almost a year since we no longer have him at the old beer joint (now the restaurant). He's very busy on tour here in the US and in Europe plus he's about to release his third album. I got my copy a month ago (we have a vested interest in him) and it's really good.

Last night's performance was great and it was the biggest turnout for the Hideout this Rodeo!!! The floor of the Astrodome was packed...too many people for me!:p

He performed at the bar when we had our Texas picnic a few years ago. And then there was the voting plug for a Houston variety of Idol.

I wonder if that policy is in place because they got too many people who would work just long enough to amass a nice discounted collection and then quit.........

Today was my first day at my new part-time job at Le Creuset.

So, what's on your wish list? Maybe I can help add to it.;) If you get hooked on their outlet specials, like certain colors or pieces, you're doomed. The outlet price + sale discount + set discount (for # pieces) = a killer collection for your own kitchen!:D

We've been spending the weekend (Thur thru tomorrow, after church) building the kids' fort & swingset. I'm off to help again!

Only 10% at Target??? Big deal, huh?

The discount at LC is very generous. They haven't told me what it is yet, but a couple of people bought things and mentioned how much it cost. I did the math. :p

You can only spend $200 monthly, which actually buys a good amount. Guess they don't want you buying things for everyone you know. ;)

I want these ... they are too cute!

Back in the day, when I worked at Sears, Belk, Miller & Rhodes, Hengerer's, etc, 10% was the normal discount. Nowadays, I hear it can be much higher, but I wouldn't expect Target to give much more than that, since their prices are low, anyway...

The only Le Creuset I own besides the beloved French oven, is the little individual bean pots. I bought them for a slightly more elegant Fench Onion Soup presentation, but some creamy polenta with a pile of mushroom ragł and Fontina cheese makes comfort in a bowl.

Canice - Very nice!!!

testkitchen45 - Besides the cute veggie thing, I want the 7.25 round Dutch Oven. I have the buffet that I use for meat, chili, etc, but I want a deeper pan for soups.

http://www.lecreuset.com/usa/images/library/large/cass._buffet_(67).jpg

Not sure if the round or oval is better? The oval comes in 6.74 and 9.25.

I don't care about colors. My buffet is blue and I have the gratin in white. I like all the colors and don't care about having all the same. So what else should I get???

Asking me that question is dangerous. Be warned. Look at the current "My name is ____ and I have a problem with ____" thread. :D Post again after you see that, & I'll help ya: my 1st suggestion would be a 5-quart oven, but if you're getting the 7.25, then you may not need it. (Imagine that.) I use my 3-quart a lot also, and my 2's for rice & veggies.

I like round better than oval. After a certain size, oval is kind of a pain: stirring is easier in round, oval's harder to store (maybe), oval takes up more room on your stovetop (definitely).

I read your post on the good food side of the hosue. I think I'll skip the doufeu. Might have to get a fondue pot ... I don't have one. I'm a microwave person; do my rice in a pyrex. So, I don't think I need the 5.5.

Thanks for the validation of round vs oval. The 7.25 is pretty big and can still accomodate longer cuts of meat.

And yes, I want the veggies in the ceramic and the cast iron. DH will have a fit when he sees me bringing things home for the little hours I'm working.

I was surprised at how little the discount was as well (plus you have to pay cash or use a Target Card, I can't use my regular Visa). In HS, I worked at a small mom & pop store and got 20%, The North Face was 50% and we got a sister discount at the other VF stores that usually was 20%.

I'm not sure I'm taking home much money since I'm giving the boys dinner money on Thursday nights when I'm working from 4 - 9. But since my aim is benefits...I think I'll come out ahead in the end.

Part-time benefits start at 20 hours a week. Full-time benefits are 32 hours a week. I'm aiming for part-time ... but you need to work 6 months before benefits start
