View Full Version : How to stop a company from sending mail??

I have been calling this company to tell them to stop sending ads to my house. They are explicit in nature and my kids often get the mail for me. I have called them at least 3 times (maybe 4 times) starting last August. They told me the first time that they have "preprinted labels" so they're unable to stop mailings for 90 days since they print 90 days worth of labels. That's all well and good, but 90 days has long passed.
Is there somewhere I can report this company? I know you can stop mail in general, but this has gone on too long.
Thanks!

You can file a complaint with the DMA (https://www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offmailing) but that's no guarantee anything will happen since it's not a govt agency. Worth a try, though.
I'd also call my post office and see if they have any procedures. If it's not fraudulent, dangerous, etc., though, I don't think they can do anything. Again, worth a shot.
Also, for every piece of that mail you get, write REFUSED - RETURN TO SENDER on it, draw one diagonal line through your address, and stick it back in the mail.

Thanks! Yes, that does help. I'll have to get down to the post office soon. These people are such idiots. Had a talk with DH about WHY we are getting this kind of mail. He told me his friend ordered something and I think may have used his cc (I actually believe him- first off, he would lie- if he ordered something, he would've told me. Second of all- I usually take in the mail and all deliveries so I would've seen it!) Every mailing says "Last Chance!" on it- I thought they would've stopped by now  .
USPS has a form -- the last page has an explanation of when it would be appropriate to use it. See http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps1500.pdf

When I was looking for the web address for the stop mail stuff I read that if you refuse junk (bulk) mail the local post office just throws it away because they can't return bulk mail. So, the bulk mailers never see the refused stuff. The only stuff that gets returned with refused written on it is First class mail.

Are the senders including a prepaid return envelope? If so, stuff the junk into the envelope and sent it back!! Bulk mailers only pay return postage on the envelopes if they are used.
I often stuff other junk into the prepaid envelopes from other junk senders and mail it back :D .
OOPS, forgot to mention... I remove our name from anything I send back

I've done that before (and the offending envelope is awaiting tomorrow's mail- fully stuffed! However, for some reason, this company just won't stop. When I sent the envelopes back previously, I enclosed a (not too nice) note telling them to remove my name, in addition to the phone calls. I honestly feel like they're just harrassing me at this point.
I wasn't very nice when I called again today. They claim that they have no record of our address, so we "must have been removed." Uh, yeah, that explains why I just got mail at our NEW address (which we NEVER gave them??)
