Hi everyone, I'm looking for help on things to do and see in Myrtle Beach. We will be going for Easter, staying five days. Any outstanding restaurants, shows, or golf courses would be a great help. Also, places NOT to go....hehe. We have a mixed group of 12, mostly teens and adults. I would love to hear your ideas. Thanks a bunch, Debbie :)

Hi Debralynn,

Can you give us some more ideas about what you're looking for? Where are you staying...north or south? Are you into real, regional experiences or are you just looking for fun accomodations for your group? I don't want to be negative, but I'd be hard-pressed to give recommendations for Myrtle Beach otherwise.

There are several attractions that are pretty accessible no matter where you are staying. Broadway at the Beach is a huge complex of restaurants, bars, and stores. The Ripley's Aquarium is also there, and it is very nicely set up. The Palace Theater has a Circ D' Soleil type show, I have not been but I have heard good reviews. The restaurants are the popular chain theme ones, such as Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville, Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, Nascar Cafe, etc.

Barefoot Landing is another dining and shopping complex, and is in the northern section of Myrtle Beach, and House of Blues and the Alabama Theater are there too.

Carolina Opry and Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede are two very popular shows. The Carolina Opry show is a mix of popular and country music, and comedy. The comedian is very entertaining. Dixie Stampede is a show with horses and riders doing stunts, and also serves a roast chicken dinner. Be warned, dinner is served without utensils.

Brookgreen Gardens is a huge area set aside by the Huntington family that is made up of lovely gardens, all containing sculptures collected by Ann Huntington over her lifetime. They also have a boat tour of the old rice paddys. Walking the grounds alone could take a couple hours. On Easter, they have an old fashioned easter Egg Hunt for the children.

Dining out is a challenge. Myrtle Beach is overrun with chain restaurants, and lots of mediocre buffets. If you are staying close to Murrell's Inlet, there are several very nice restaurants there, among them, Capt Dave's Dockside, Divine Fish House, Lee's Inlet Kitchen, and Russell's. Even furter south in Pawley's Island is Louis' at the Hammock Shops, and Franks, both a bit more upscale.

Umi's in the Galleria shopping plaza is a new upscale Asian fusion restaurant that is very modern looking, and the food was good the couple times we went there.

There are a lot of tappanyaki type dining establishments, in my opinion, avoid at all costs.

If anyone in your party is a golfer, I strongly urge you to make tee times now if at all possible. In just a short period of time , over thirteen courses have closed due to development, and even though there are probably still about ninety open in the area, tee times are becoming scarce, especially during peak seasons. I work for a vacation property management company, and I know we are almost 100% booked for Easter week.

Lastly of course are the beaches. Ther are a couple of parasailing companies, one in North Myrtle Beach for sure, and there are jet ski rental places too. There are deep sea fishing rentals as well as The Screamer, a huge high powered Jet boat ride that is polular with kids. A couple companies offer boat tours for dolphin sightings and shell collecting.

Hope this helps.

I suggest that you not eat at Bovines (South Myrtle Beach towards Murrells Inlet), Way overpriced for what we received.

There was a hamburger joint on Surfside Beach(South Myrtle Beach)...Sure wish I could remember the name...We would do a late lunch there when we wanted to snack in the evening. We really liked the place...gdnr77..do you know the place I am talking about?

Jmarie, my guess would be River City Cafe, on Surfside Drive in Surfside. Very good burgers, and there are five locations throughout the Myrtle Beach area. It is in the same location as Latitude 22, which features a Caribbean menu, and has nice oceanfront seating. Coincidently, River City cafe is owned by the same people as Bovines, as is Latitude 22.

Cheesseburger in Paradies, another Jimmy buffet restaurant. If you like sweet drinks, you must have a Goombay Smash! They are out of this world.

Thanks so much for all the great info..........we are staying oceanfront at the Breakers Resort, just a few blocks from Broadway on the beach.

We are willing to travel to north MB or towards Murrell's INlet, since we will be right in the middle of both. So thanks for those restaurant ideas as well.

Someone told me about Greg Norman's Austraulian Grille, near Barefoot Landing??? Any thought on that one>? I was told its good, but very expensive.

We do have golfers, I will get them to set up tee times now since they already know which courses they want to play based on their friends input. It's sad to hear so many courses are closing due to developements. The golf is what makes Myrtle Beach such an attraction for us.

Thanks again to all of you fine folks ! :) Debbie

Bennett's Calabash Seafood (http://www.foodry.com/restaurant/Bennetts-Calabash-Seafood-Myrtle-Beach-SC/188798) has a pretty good buffet, and the crab legs were good, if I recall correctly.

I have found Greg Normans' Australian Grill to be mediocre food at very expensive prices, imho. I have had better steak dinners at The Flamingo Grill or Cagneys in Myrtle Beach, or Martinis in North Myrtle Beach. We are enjoying great weather here right now, and I hope it lasts for your visit. I moved down here recently from New Hampshire and I am so enjoying the warmer climate.
