I'm new to the board and would love to be involved in a supper club or possibly start a new one. I noticed a club formed back in January. Do you have room for one more? Or are there any newcomers interested out there? I live downtown, am 31, married with one child and enjoy running, reading, experimenting with new recipes, EATING and being a mom. I loved one idea a heard about combining a book and cooking club! Anxious to hear back!

Hi all! I just sent out some e-mails to some who have previously posted on this subject...but I thought I had better put on the BB too.
Let's get an Indy group going! There is already one, I've been told, but it is full...so we need to start another! I'm sure there are enough foodies in Indy to support another club.
E-mail me or post here if you are interested and we will try to plan something soon.
Looking forward to meeting you all! :) Beth

Looking for others! I live on the NE side w/ easy interstate access, so any location is fine w/ me. I'm 28, recently married, preschool/kindergarten teacher. I am having fun expirementing with all sort of gadgets from my bridal showers and would love some company. I love cooking light, but don't really pay attention to calories/fat content....if the store is out of low-fat sour cream, I have no qualms about using full fat and enjoying every bit of it, that's for sure.
I like to read, cook, dabble in scrapbooking, do water aerobics (I belong to the Lifetime Fitness cult), and learning about new things (I'm a teacher, it's a pre-req).
I love the idea of a book/supper club....I've been wanting to join both!
My hubby is gone M-F (which sucks, but is necessary right now), so I am VERY free in the evenings during the week.
What do you think ladies? Shall we give it a go?

I just saw this thread (this whole bb thing is new to me). I love the idea of a supper/book club. I love to cook and I never have enough time to read. I'm definitely interested. I live on the NE side (Castleton area). I work M-F and I'm all over town. Through the week or on the weekends, or whatever side of town doesn't make any difference to me. Feel free to email me and let me know where things stand on this :-)
I am also interested in joining a cooking light supper club. I live in Speedway but work in Pendleton so anywhere would be accessable for me. Husband also works evenings M-F (you get used to it) so weeknights would be perfect unless it is a couples thing. Am interested in meeting new friends and cooking up a storm.

Okay, so I see a total of four people besides me on this thread, plus I've got two other very interested friends, so I think this would constitute a potential supper/book club!
My thoughts are that we could plan the cuisine around the book, based on whatever region it takes place in or whatever.
Would you all be interested in meeting sometime in the next week or two for either dinner or snacks somewhere? Would Castleton work for everyone or someplace more central like Broad Ripple or Downtown??
Let me know your thoughts.....

Great idea! I like the part about centering dinner around the book. I live in Castleton, but anywhere is fine as far as meeting. The only date in the next two weeks (Satarting after Labor Day) that won't work for me is the 13th (going ot a Pampered chef party). I suggest 7 or 7:30pm for a time, maybe...

I'm one of the friends that Petfree1 mentioned. I am very interested in joining the club.
I live on the NW side with my husband and daughter. I am quite interested in the arts, movies, reading (mostly fluff) and baking. I need to get healthier and this is just the ticket!
I hardly have time to cook with a one year old underfoot, so this would be an opportunity to get together and enjoy some wonderful food and company.
My husband would enjoy this as well, but if we are decided to be just girls, I am game for that as well.
I would love to meet with you all somewhere neutral in the next couple of weeks to get a plan of action.

I can do a planning beverage and snack get-together anytime after 7:30 p.m. during the week--weekends are sometimes a little more tricky. We can meet for a beverage and plan our theme, meeting place, and get to know each other a bit.
What about next Wed evening at 8 p.m. at the Corner Wine Bar in Broadripple? Post here if that time is OK--if it is, great...if not, we'll just come up with a new time!

I can be there by myself on Wednesday night next week at CWB if everyone agrees. If anyone wants to email me off the board, I can be reached at asbowers@hotmail.com.

Assuming that it's the 5th and not tomorrow (I'm looking forward to starting, but I have to work at my prn job tomorrow 4:30-9pm) I can make it to the CWB at 8pm. I live in Castleton. My email is below if anyone wants to drop me a line. I've heard from a few now, so forgive me if I get everyone confused with all the different logins/email/real names...
See ya next Wednesday!

Hi Guys!
I've been trying to post to this thread for almost 2 weeks now! Finally it works! Yay! I'm SO very interested in joining this group! I hope it is not too late. I just e-mailed Lynn and Angela in case I couldn't get this post to work. I live on the NW side, but work down by the airport. I'm 37 and love to workout and eat healthfully most of the time! I've been a big fan of Cookinglight for quite awhile now. I would love to meet all of you and help with the planning if needed. Since my boyfriend travels during the week I have time to help out. I will be starting school next month but it will only be for one night a week for the most part. Someone please e-mail me privately and give me directions to the meeting place for next week. My e-mail is lilsquirt64@mindspring.com
Thanks much! :)

This is my third time trying to respond to the Indy Supper/Book Club idea. I live in the Geist are and have two young boys, I am 29 love eating ang cooking, art, good sarcasm and just having fun. I recently went through a divorce and I am trying to get back into a routine, cooking, exercise...doing things I like! I would love to meet at the Corner Wine Bar next Wed...the 5th? Is this a go? Will someone email me at Jennifer.Mathews@firstnationalbank.com. Thanks, I look forward to hearing from someone!

It looks like there will be at least five of us there--so fun! I also forwarded the time to two others--maybe they'll make it as well.
The address of the restaurant is 6331 Guilford Ave. I just punched it into http://www.mapquest.com and it came up with a very decent map. I'd recommend using that program for finding your way.
Let's keep a close watch on this forum for more interested people and if the time still looks good by Monday--we'll set it as the definite time and place for our initiating meeting. I can't wait!
Lynno1975
08-29-2001, 01:06 PM
How will we know who we all are? Are we waiting for a definite number and then putting in a reservation or something? There's at least 5 or 6 and since it's not a blind date I'd feel kinda dopey walking in with a rose in my hand . Any suggestions?....
The 5th is my birthday and anniversary...and my parents are coming to visit from Florida and I haven't seen them in two years. So count me out for the initial meeting but please keep me posted on future ones.
Two questions/concerns I may have. Please let me know if this is going to be a book reading/cooking club because I have to be honest...as much as I love to read, I just don't have the time anymore and I would probably be three books behind everyone else.
Also is "petfree1" an indication that your are allergic or don't like being around pets? I am not at all pet free and thought I had better make that known. I won't be offended, just don't want to offend anyone else with my 120 lb. lab and 2 cats.
If reading is required or pets are a problem just let me know and I'll keep looking for other clubs.
I hope all of you have a great time on the 5th. A toast to all of you on my birthday.

I know some of you have done this already, but I made a list of the group so far and I count 8. They are: Jennifer, JennM, Beth, Lynn, Angela, Michelle, Karin and myself (Cathy). Does this sound right? Is there anyone else who is interested and can make the meeting on Wednesday?
I think I have all of your e-mail addresses except for Karin. Karin you can e-mail it to me if you don't want to post it.
I was also wondering if we were going to bring any books or other items to discuss for our format at this meeting? If anyone has any suggestions I can put together some sort of casual agenda so we make sure we cover all the things that we need to.
That is a good question about recognizing each other! We could all wear hats or something! (just kidding!) Anyone have any suggestions?
Can wait to meet you all! :)

Happy birthday next Wednesday, Karin!!!
I also have a cat, if anyone needs to know ahead of time. I made a list, too and I came up with 8 as well. As far as the book thing goes, I like the idea a lot, but I can easily get behind on it. I've been trying to finish "Interview With a Vampire" for a month now. Is anybody else bringing anything. We could all walk in with this month's CL so that we'd know each other (?)....

I am getting really psyched! Let's meet at CWB at 8 on the fifth!! How about I make a reservation for 8 (in case any extras show) under the name "Light." Then you don't have to remember my name. :)
We can discuss format, make a date for club meeting number one, and decide logistics. I really love to read, but I too could fall behind easily. Perhaps for the first one we should concentrate on the food and getting to know each other better, then later include books and boys, should we decide that is best. :)
See you all then. I can take care of the reservation.
PS: I also have a dog, and I think Michelle can handle pets in small doses (she'll have to tell you the story behind her login name).
BethH
08-30-2001, 08:08 AM
I think Lynn's idea is a good one. Let's all bring last month's and this month's issues so we can decide on a theme for our 'first' meeting and also so we can recognize each other. I thought we could bring two just so we could have more options from which to choose.
My thoughts on the book club...I work and am in school at night, so would have a difficult time keeping up with the reading too. I think this seems like a flexible group and no one should feel required to read if their schedule doesn't permit. That said, I loooove to read and would enjoy getting recommendations on books to read over my school breaks, if I'm not able to get to them now. I'll try to keep up and be able to participate...but if I fall behind, you all have to promise not to get mad at me! ;)
Also, since we are discussing....I don't have any pets, but also don't have any pet allergies or aversions. Dogs and cats, etc. are just fine with me!
Looking forward to next Wed! Go ahead and make the reservations, Angela!

I just finished reading the latest batch of posts and I am so jazzed--I can't wait to meet you all on Wednesday. :-)
I can handle pets in small doses, I am allergic to some cats, but not others--it's very weird, I've never been able to correllate the allergy between long hair/short hair or anything else. And as Ang mentioned, there is a definite story behind my name! That said, I am also HEAVILY MEDICATED this time of year for outside allergies anyway, so I should be fine w/ anyone's felines or pooches. Just call me the girl who wished she had a bubble!
I agree we should focus on the food first, and then and books later if there is interest....I've been up to 11:30pm (VERY late for a school night) every night this week and the only book I've had a chance to read is is "Rabbit Hill", which I am reading aloud to my kindergarteners....
See you on the 5th!
Michelle
PS-- as far as all girls vs. co-ed, maybe we could make the core group girls and then every now and then include the boys? Just a thought!
Lynno1975
08-30-2001, 06:19 PM
I'm cool girls only or co-ed. Since I'm single, that guy-thing would work even better if they have one for me (wink-wink ha-ha-ha). Hope everyone has a great 3-day weekend if I don't talk to anyone before!!
Everyone sounds so great. I wish I could make CWB to meet everyone. Since I can't I guess everyone will just have to trust that I am really not a psycho...most of my friends would agree.
Please keep me posted on how it goes and what the plans are. My e-mail is ktjf@juno.com.
Have fun.

Hi, all. Did I find you just in time, or am I too late to join the gang at CWB, which is spitting distance from my canalside estate, Villa DeCay.
I'm new to this forum, so please help me out here. I'm particularly interested in a club that shares recipes/meal ideas, and possibly gets together for potluck dinners. I'd appreciate hearing from any or all of you.
thanks!

No, Nancy, you are not too late! Our first meeting is on the 5th. We will discuss our format and all at that meeting. Hope to see you there! E-mail me privately if you would like.
I also received an e-mail message from Karen Marshall who would also like to join us. I guess this puts our total to 10 and our Wednesday attendees to 9! Can't wait to meet you all!

I'm meeting Cathy (lilsquirt64) at Kroger at 7:30. She's only lived here a year or so and she's not real familiar with Broad Ripple. I gave her directions to Kroger and we're walking from there. It was nice meeting everyone last night! SOme of were talking about a French toast casserole last night on one end of the table (I found the recipe this morning and it's actually a souffle) and wanted the recipe. I don't have all the email addresses yet, so I'm posting it on the bb. Talk to you all later.
P.S. This thing is really easy for the beginners....
Frenct Toast Souffle
(April 2000 issue "Lighten Up" , also page 108 of the annual cookbook 2001 [pink one])
-10 cups (1") cubed sturdy white bread (such as Pepperidge Farms white, about 16 slices)
-cooking spray
-one (8 oz) block 1/3 less fat cream cheese, softened
-8 large eggs
-1 1/2 cups 2% reduced fat milk
- 2/3 cup half and half
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup maple syrup
1. Place bread cubes in a 13x9 inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Beat cream cheese at medium speed of a miser until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add milk, half and half, 1/2 cup maple syrup, and vanilla and mix until smooth. Pour mixture over bread cubes, cover and refrigerate overnight.
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
3. Remove bread mixture from refrigerator and let stand on the counter for 30 minutes. Bake at 375 for 50 minutes or until set. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve wth maple syrup.
Yield 12 servings (one slice of souffle and one tablespoon of maple syrup)
Note: When I made this I substituted Egg Beaters for the eggs and it came out fine :-)

That was really great, ladies. I am so thrilled that so many showed up. I am attempting to put the evite together, but their site seems to be having some difficulty. I will try to get it out soon.
Thanks for the souffle recipe Lynn. :)
I am really excited to get together later this month. I think we really have a diverse club, and the spin off ideas and groups will be really fun to participate in.
Take care all, and watch your email!
Hi, I just logged on CL website...I had no idea of the activity on the BB..its great! :)
Is the supper club full? Do you have room for another participant? I would be interesting in joining an Indianapolis group. I live on the NE (Fishers) side. I love to eat and try out new receipes. If you are open to another member, please e-mail me at rgreenw778@aol.com. I'd love to hear from you, otherwise I'll wait until another group forms.

I don't know about anyone else on the board, but I have gotten a coulpe of emails about whether or not we're "full" yet. Just a little announcement about what's going on for the ones "just tuning in..."
Eleven or so of us met at the Corner Wine Bar on the 5th. We are considering splitting into two (or if this thing continues at the rabbit-breeding pace that it's going, 3 or more by the 25th) groups. There is a appetizer/dessert potluck at my place on the 25th at 7:30-? If anyone is interested, please feel free to join us. I have decided that it may be a good idea to put together some sheets with some items for sign up to find common interests (such as married vs. single, side of town you live on, vegetarian vs. non, kids vs. none, line of work, driving vs. "in the backyard", nights that positively WON"T work, etc...). (By the way, if anyone has any ideas to add to the list PLEASE email
me ;-) This may give us an idea of who would like to go where, and this way we don't feel too much like a mass gathering instead of a cozy get-together.
If for some reason anyone interested can't make it, they can email me and I could send them the list and they could be "added on by proxy" so to speak.
Either way, it will be interesting to see where this all goes. It's been a lot of fun watching the whole thing grow so far and this is just the beginning. Talk to everyone soon!
Lynn
This sounds so fun. I so wish I could have made it to CWB. I ended up at Mama Carollas for dinner with parents who were visiting. Wonderful restaurant by the way...no "cooking light" there.
Angela e-mailed me with information about the meeting on the 25th. I will be there and look forward to meeting everyone. I think the information form is a good idea and splitting up into groups. See you all then, and thanks for including me.

Me too! I finally signed up and have a friend that would like to join if there is still room. My friend has weird hours as she works for flower wholesaler. I live just south of downtown with my husband, 2 dogs and 1 very fat cat.
I attend IUPUI fulltime and cooking and yoga are my sources of relaxation.
If anyone wants to form a club closer to downtown, greenwood, speedway, etc., I'd be up for it.

I've been meaning to check out the supper clubs since I moved to Indy in May. I'm so glad I finally remembered. Is there room for one more at the September 25th gathering? What a great way to divide what seems like an ever-growing group into smaller ones. Let me know anything I might have missed at the earlier meeting. Hi all-I'm looking forward to next Tuesday's get together! I'll be late due to the cooking class I"m taking....but I must say that i'm gleaning all sorts of ideas, not just about the food either!
We meet in a food lab at Marian College, so there are four mini kitchens and one big old stove center, so there's more than enough room. But a lot of recipes, especially those involving chopping, call for more than one person. It's just a matter of having enough equipment for each little group.
We can chat more about the set up of each meeting next week, but I just wanted to put that out there. If the recipes are selected carefully, we should be able to do some cooking together. Who says you can only chop or mix in the kitchen?!?! There are 10 people in the class, and the lab, at times, seems crowded, so I don't think anyone should host more than that at a time!!!
See you all soon--

I'll also check my mail (both) on Tuesday when I get home. I'll check it quite a bit this weekend and Monday. I have had 3-5 people (can't keep track of y'all) email me because they haven't been able to post anything yet. I had problems too. (Email them and tell them. It took 3 emails over the course of a week for me to get on.) When you email me, I'll email back and also send a copy of the eVite invitation. Hello! Just wanted to say how nice it was to see you all on Tuesday,
and especially nice to see more new faces.
Lynne, thanks again for hosting. You did a great job.
I haven't received any e-mail about our new "forum" or anything else.

Yeah, it's up and going. Anyone that hasn't been on/needs on, email Angela to get the low down. I don't know how it works. I thought that the only email address she needed was Carole's and I gave that to her this morning. Since you're not on there yet nancy, someone was wanting your dip recipes, but I can't remember who.... Thanks again to everyone that showed up (and for the ones that wanted to come, but said that they couldn't). I had a great time. Next time, maybe it'll be warmer and we can make it BYOC (bring your own chair) and we can go outside. I'm thinking spring at this point:D I think all of this is going to be really cool. Talk to ya soon!
Lynn :-)
p.s. Karen M: I can't find your email address and I wanted to ask you if you left a set of light blue potholders at my house. If you did, I won't hold them for ransom, you can have them back :p If you didn't, then does anyone know who did or is there anyone missing any?

Hey Lynn,
Thanks for responding. I thought that it might be a long shot that you guys would still be going since I saw those post were from 2001! My husband and I are very much into cooking, and especially finding things that taste good, but are good for you. I am in the process of losing weight and need some good ideas! Also, we moved to Indy last year and are kinda shy so we haven't made a whole lot of friends :) Can you give me details about you guys. Where do u meet, do you cook for each other often, do you ever go out and try new resturaunts?
Again thanks for responding!

Hi Jennifer HP,
I'm interested in joining an Indy group, as well. I live in Avon on the west side of the city. Have you heard anything since your previous post on the 21st? :)

I just moved to Indy about 2 weeks ago for work, and I don't know a soul. I'm 27, live downtown, and am looking for ways to meet new people. I also love to cook (and love Cooking Light), so this group sounds great! Is this supper club still a book club, too? How can I get more information? Thanks so much--I look forward to meeting you all.
