For the past year I've been in a wonderful small group of women who meet more or less monthly to explore the wonderful cuisine of Italy (where we've all loved traveling over the years.) Because none of us have big kitchens, we've kept the group to just the four of us (others have asked to join but we say we're the ultimate Snob Sorority!:):) Recently, though, the two married ones have snuck their husbands in (and gave them the job of doing any outdoor grilling we need that night.)

Saturday's planned menu is:

Marinated Tuna Appetizer
Shrimp-and-Basil Stuffed Eggplant
Truffle-scented linguine with Fresh Pecorino
Salad, bread
Amaretto Tiramisu'

After we cook (and eat) we discuss how we could have improved on the recipes, or whether a particular selection was "more trouble than it was worth," etc. Then one of our members (the "recording secretary" as she likes to call herself) types up our notes and emails them the next day to the others.

This year, we plan to take photographs of our food, and the table settings, with the idea of creating a little menu cookbook (with recipes) to put into a folder and give as Christmas happies.

I'd love to hear about others' similar groups!

I don't have a similar group, but I'd love to look over your shoulder when you read your notes! Please share, as a lot of us LOVE Italian food, and not just red sauce! Please, please, pretty please? :D

Kay, I'll be happy to share when we do something extra good! I agree about "red sauce"--we do so much else. Polenta, risotto, etc.

Here's a good hint we learned (by hard experience)---polenta takes forever to make because of the constant stirring for what seems like HOURS. One of us did some internet research and found a recipe that uses a crockpot! Now, it takes about 9 hours to get good and creamy, but...no stirring! It's wonderful with lots of fresh Parmegiano-Reggiano grated in it, and topped with grilled shrimp, peppers, and onions. Kind of an italiano shrimp-and-grits!
