Is anyone interested in starting a cooking/dinner club in Oakland County, MI?
I'd be interested. I currently belong to a supper club, but would love to join another. Email me at jchinn@dcoleman.com if you are getting something started.

Well it looks like we have about 4-5 people interested so far, plus any spouses, etc. I would like to plan to meet for coffee somewhere in the Southfield/Farmington Hills area after work one night. What day is good for the rest of you? I can't do it this week as I am in the midst of planning my daughter's birthday party for Saturday. Next week is fine for me, any night but Tuesday. Post replys or e-mail me and we will do whatever is most workable.
Any night next week is good for me.
As for locations, offhand I can think of a Starbucks in downtown Farmington and one at 12 Mile and Telegraph. Another idea might be to meet at the cafe in Borders at 14 and Orchard Lake. I'm sure there are a bunch of other coffee places around, I just can't think of any right now.
Hope the birthday party goes well.

Wednesday night works for me, Feb. 7th. I prefer the Borders at Orchard and 14 mile as opposed to downtown Farmington Starbucks, but the Starbucks at 12 and Telegraph is good too. Or the one on northwestern and Inkster. I will have to check on my husband's schedule. I may have to bring my 2 year old because it is my parent's anniversary and I don't know if I have a sitter. Let me know if Wednesday at about 7:00 works for everyone?

I'll be there. I'll bring a copy of the current Cooking Light to have at the table so people will know where to meet (borrowed that idea from someone's post).

Well no one has stated that Wednesday doesn't work, so lets make it Wednesday, February 7th at 7:00pm at the Borders Cafe at 14 and Orchard Lake Road. Please post or e-mail me to let me know if you will be there so we know how many to expect.

Just stumbled upon you. My husband and I have been wanting to get into a cooking club for years. If you have room for another couple after the Feb. 7th meeting, would love to meet everyone. We can't make the 7th. e-mail address: carpenterk@west bloomfield.k12.mi.us

Sorry I missed the meeting. Am I too late?

We met last night. Three of us were there and we sketched out some good ideas for meetings. Our first one will be March 23. l'll let Lisa fill in all the details. We definitely have room for more people.
Hope to meet everyone soon.

The meeting was great. I think this club will have a great start!! We decided that the first meeting should be dinner out, so as everyone can meet and get to know each other on neutral ground. The first meeting is Friday, March 23rd at 7pm at La Shish on Orchard Lake and Maple (in the plaza where shopping center market is). La Shish has fabulous middle eastern food at a reasonable price. We will need to know who is coming at least by that Tuesday before so as to make reservations. We can discuss and plan April's meeting then. I'll post another message with other details we discussed.

The other details we discussed at the meeting were as to the format and content of the club. The three of us that attended agree that we would like to incorporate eating, cooking, socializing and other activities in our club. Generally, it looks like one Saturday a month would be good for meetings (although the first meeting is on a friday night). We also want to do something like a BBQ in the summer and berry picking too!! Apple picking in the fall might be an option also. We can plan each month's meeting the month before. Decide who the host is and what the content will be. The host will make the food decisions and delegate. We can discuss this further at March's meeting.
Hope to see lots of you there!!

We have had some more people e-mail me with interest in attending our March meeting, so it looks like this club may really take off. I did realize that some of the e-mails I sent out had a typo on it regarding the date of the March meeting, just so it is clear, it is March 23, 2001. Sorry about the mix-up. Hope to see you all at La Shish, please post or e-mail if you are coming, so we can make reservations.

Hello everyone! I am interested in joining the supper club but can not make the March 23rd dinner at La Shish.
Please let me know when the next meeting or official supper club starts.
I am game for any ideas!

My husband and I are interested in the club.
It sounds like fun. Let me know if there is room for two more.
I'm sure there is room. Come to the meeting and let's see how many people actually show up. In one club I was in, we had quite a few people, but not everyone could come every time, so we usually ended up with a rotating group of about 6 to 8 at each meeting, which was a great amount. Althought I say, the more the merrier!

Hello everyone. I just am trying to get a count for La Shish. So far my husband and I are going, Cathy Baker and her husband, The Mondoras, and Jennifer Chin. Is there anyone else that is going. Please respond by Tuesday the 20th. I know that Beth M. cannot make it, we will update those who are interested, but can not come on the 23rd.

Lisa,
What time are we meeting Friday night (still 7pm)? How will we know who you are?
Karen

As far as I know, it is still 7pm - at least that is when I will be there so I hope it is. We will tell the hostess to send everyone to our table so hopefully that will get us all together.

Hope everyone had fun on Friday. I am sorry that my husband and I could not make it. We have been battling the flu in our house for the past two weeks. We thought it was over, but Friday my husband came home from work sick again. We did call the restaurant and leave a message that we would not be able to make it, I hope they let you all know. Please let us know what happened, we do want to be in the club.
Lisa
I will not be able to make it to the meeting this weekend (I emailed but a few of the addresses didn't work, so I wanted to post here so it got to everyone). I am skating in an ice show and did not know the dates when we set the meeting date. But I do want to be involved, so please let me know when the next meeting is and count me in!

Hello everyone,
I hope the last meeting was a sucess!! I am sure it was as every meeting has been incredible. I am sorry Jay and I missed it, but we have a new addition to our family. Jeremy Richard Imerman was born on October 24, 2001 at 8:39 am. He was 4 pounds 15 ounces and 17 3/4 inches long. He is doing great and we look forward to the next meeting. Could someone post or e-mail the details and assignments to Jay and I. We would like to be included.
Thanks
Lisa

Congratulations Lisa! We are all so happy for you, Jay and your daughter. We are not meeting again until January (the Sat before MLK day - I think) due to all of the conflicts with the holidays. The next theme is Asian - I think we are meeting at Kathy Benore's house (don't quote me though, it could be at Jody's). I did not write down the assignments, but Jody said that she was preparing a package for you (recipes from last month's dinner, new baby card, and details of the next meeting). Let me know if you don't get it in a few weeks. Enjoy your little bundle of joy! Make sure you bring pictures to the next dinner. :)
Hello,
My husband and I are interested in joining the Oakland County, MI cooking club. Is there still room?

KSM - We already have 12 people in our group, and no one seems to miss too often (unless you have just given birth like Lisa :) ). 12 is about the max that anyone can fit in one house, so unfortunately, I have to say no right now - we've already turned down a few others.
I know that there have been quite a few people in the Metro Detroit area forming groups though. You may want to do a search or just read through the posts from the last 100 days or so. Here's a link to some search results.
http://www.cookinglight.com/vbb/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=33394&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending
Or you could post a new thread and try to start a new group. Best wishes.

Looking for new members. We have lost one couple from our club and have found that 12 members is the best workable number (can fit in everyone's house and makes dividing courses the easiest). We would like to find two more members to bring our club up to 12 again. Our club has been doing suppers on a rotating basis every other month or so. We pick a theme and assign courses, then we meet at one members house for dinner on a Saturday night at 7 pm.
So far everything we have done has been great. We are meeting on January 18th for our next supper, which is a Spanish theme. Please email or post if you are interested in joining our club. If we get too many responses (since we are only looking to add 2 members) then we will choose new members and see how it goes.
You can email me or PM me or post. Thanks for your interest.

Just responding to both for more info :)
Oh! Do you guys cook or bring the food prepared? Is it light or just follow the theme?
Lrimerman
01-01-2003, 01:28 PM
Molli,
We usually bring the food, although last minute preps are usually needed. Also, we have done the kitchen clam bake and a BBQ which a lot of the cooking was done at supper club. We started out doing light, but it has evolved into everything, although the majority is still light. We bring copies of the recipe we make to share with everyone. We pick hosts and theme at the end for the next time.
If you have any more questions or are interested in joining, let me know.
Lisa
