View Full Version : Tough reasons for a good result...

So, I blew up the engine on my Civic on Sunday. (Let's not go into the reasons, please. :o ) I had to make some quick decisions including whether to replace the engine, buy something and what to buy. In the end I decided to buy the car I had planned to buy in a couple of years. I am the proud new ownder of a Subaru Impreza 2.5i Sedan Special Edition. Here's a picture (though mine has a sunroof, my first ever!)

Nice, Robyn! Is that the color you got? And can we assume you're adding ski racks?!? :D

Yes, that's the color I got, I figured it would hide the dirt and mud better! :p And I'll eventually be buying a new fit kit to put my ski and bike racks from my old car on the new one. In the meantime it has a pass through from the trunk so my skis will fit. I'll be giving it it's first mountain run tomorrow. It has around 40 more horsepower than the Civic so it should be fun. :D

Wow so you actually have it already? So cool. When I bought my first (only) 'new' car I had to wait a few days for it to be delivered. I'm so happy for you! Enjoy the 'new car smell'!

Yep, I already have it. It's a very popular car here so if this dealer didn't have what I wanted 4-5 others in the area did. I stopped on my way home to get the cable that plugs into the auxillary audio jack so I can plug in my iPod to the sterio system. It also came with satellite radio capability, a 6 disc in dash cd changer, extra speakers and climate control as part of the special edition package.

Congratulations and good luck with it! I would imagine that a Subaru with their allwheel drive would be much better in the snow than the civic. I'm amazed you've navigated the mountains in a civic. I'd be terrified! I'm nervous with my Jeep and brand new tires here in flat MA. ;)

Congratulations! I expect you will be driving

I will be very interested in your impressions of its driveability in various conditions.

Background: When we moved to Lake Tahoe almost six years ago, we brought with us our Nisson Maxima (2-wheel drive) and Jeep Grand Cherokee (all wheel drive with 4-wheel low as well). We drive both in snow (we have winter and summer tires for both vehicles), but use the Jeep exclusively in severe conditions. (More than once when I've headed for Echo Summit, the chain control guy has said, "I want you to put it in 4-wheel low NOW.")

In August, 2003, when we needed to replace the Maxima, we drove several different types of Subarus (it is the regulation vehicle here), but decided we weren't willing to give up the sports car feel of the Maxima. (It is more fun than the law allows in good conditions.) We reevaluate each time we need to buy another vehicle, and are always seeking input from people with experience in mountain driving.

Thanks!

Kay

We have a sub forester. it's far & away the best car we've ever driven in snow/ice conditions. Better than a grand cherokee, better than a 4 wd Toyo truck etc. We love it! We got some especially nice tires for it, both snow & regular & that helps too.

Yay - congrats on the new "baby"! Does it have 4WD? Is it even possible to live in CO without 4WD???

You'll love your new car. We have two Subarus--a WRX and a Forrester, and they've both been great. I drove through that horrible snowstorm that hit just before Christmas in the WRX and had no problems at all. :)
