To apply for my passport. This after being forced to stay up till 12:#0am to watch a hockey game. I arrived at the passport office at 5:45 this am. I walked out at 2:30, thankfully successful.

OMG - that's crazy!!! Was it the last day before the fee went up to $700 or something?

Every day is like this since the law that prevents air travel between the US and Canada unless you have a passport. Mailing your application takes 3 months to process so I sucked it up and stood in line. Should get mine in a month. And FTR, I am not one of those people who waited till the last minute; my passport expires in 2 months.

Ugh!! Linda, what an ordeal - I'm glad you were successful in your quest, though, and hopefully this means you're going to travel somewhere fun! :)
Also glad that after you stayed up late to see that game, it ended up in your favour :D
I probably shouldn't even mention this, but in the GTA, the waits are not even close to as long... sorry. Maybe this is why everyone outside Ontario loves to hate Upper Canadians, at least from the Southern part of the province ;)

DH went in at 1:30 pm and was out by 3:30 pm on Tuesday. Ah well, it's done with for another 5 years! Mine renews next year, hopefully by then things will be back to normal wait times!
I feel your pain Linda...or I should day my DH does.
He thought that by bypassing Victoria and getting the application directly to Ottawa that that would save time.
Nooo...it did take three months 9and I posted the sage here) so I ended up ging to England on my own.
Bon voyage wherever you are going!
And at least the Canucks won! :) :)
Natasha-yes. :p :p :p ;)

I am not planning anywhere exciting, just hoping to get to a family reunion in June.

I can't imagine waiting that long. It's worse than the DMV!
They really need to make it easier for current passport holders to just renew thier passports, rather than reapplying with all that same info each time. Also, making them valid for 10 years (as I think the US ones are) would be far better too. I'd pay way more money just to not have the hassle every five years. Fortunately I got a new one for myself and kids last summer - they were here within 3 weeks (all by courier, of course). I think DH's will expire in the next year. It used to be you could go to the passport office on a Monday and have it ready by Friday. We used to renew ours during visits to Canada that way. Those days are gone too.

If you have a current passport that needs renewal and you have an immoderate need to travel you can renew your passport by mail. It takes a few weeks for you to get it done but you can take it to most post offices and they have all the forms and will assist you getting them filled out and mailed.

Oh, that is really funny:p Still nursing the original.
And Pheonixcooking, as funnybone said, you can't do that in a few weeks in Canada. It takes 3 months right now.

I just picked up the application at my local post office. They only have passport services daily from 10a.m. to 3p.m. so it shouldn't be a long wait! I have to get my picture taken and then I'm all set. I don't have any travel plans so it doesn't matter how long it takes. Now, where to travel......?
