I'm subbing at the Middle School this week and I've been having the best time! 6th graders are a riot! I'm so used to high school kids that when I get to the middle school I'm always so surprised at how goofy, funny, whacky, and hormonal these kids are. :)
I'll be there all week, so a few more fun days in store for me! I'll be exhausted on Friday night, but it's worth it.

Deb, that is so cool, but don't forget the hormonal part! It could be different every second of the day....if memory serves!

I so hope you get a teaching job in a middle school some day! :) I think that's actually the hardest age BECAUSE of the hormones and so many grownups are NOT good at handling kids at this age. If you can see the funny and goofy side of them, you'd be SUCH an asset in a middle school. I see way too many people who don't seem to remember at ALL how hard that age can be for a kid..... :(
I can't decide, but I think I prefer the little ones. They crack me up! They'll ramble on and on about ANYTHING! But they are a lot of work in the discipline area - it can be exhausting! But I think I prefer the hugs and sweet innocense over the smart mouths and the eye rolling............ ;)

When I went through my "I want to be a teacher phase," I was gung-ho about wanting to teach middle schoolers. They're incredibly intelligent, but just coming into their own- so amazingly awkward at the same time. It's sooo cool to see kids on the verge of being awesome adults.
But at the same time- the definately can be the biggest challenge. It's takes a special breed of person to put up with it! :D

Years ago I substituted in middle and elem. while looking for a job. I couldn't handle middle school. The kids had that "attitude" that the younger ones did not have, and I wasn't quite sure about how to handle the kids making out in the hallways!! It just wasn't for me and I went on to teach 2nd/3rd grade where I was perfectly happy!
I'm glad you're having a good time. You must have the personality to blend with that age group well. My sister has taught 6th grade for years and loves it.
Enjoy your week!

I have a lot of admiration for those that can teach middle school age. I taught religious ed to that age for 6 months and won't do it again. I like my little guys! I'm so glad you are have a great week!
