My cousin's parents are hosting an engagement party for him and his fiance. Engagement parties are not too popular out here on the west coast and this is the first one I've ever been invited to.

What's the expectation for gifts? And if gifts are expected anyone have any ideas? He's 27, not sure how old she is if that helps any.

I'm at a total loss here, so any help is appreciated!

I've always been under the impression that you are not required to bring gifts to an engagement party. Therefore, I have never brought a gift to one. However, there is always a gift table full of gifts. My cousin specified on her invitation "no gifts necessary," but plenty of people brought gifts. As far as I know, engagement parties are for the families and friends of the newly engaged to meet and greet. I think between the bridal shower and the wedding, the happy couple gets enough gifts. No need for triple gift giving. IMHO.

IMHO ... bring a small gift.

I think a bottle of wine is a great engagement gift.

Thanks!

I think I'll pick up a nice bottle of wine to have in the car just in case there is a table full of gifts.

I've been to a couple of engagement parties and brought either wine or champagne. Have fun!

If there's not, are you just going to keep the bottle? :D
