I'm looking for a swimsuit for the season. Ugh! I have a DD chest so top support is a must. I'm a size 12 and have a "mummy tummy" so a bikini is out. I'm looking for a tankini or one piece that is stylish but not too revealing. Land's End has some cute ones that appear to have good support. Any other ideas shopping mavens?
Thanks

What about Victoria's Secret? I know they are known more for their two piece suits, but they also have a slew ofone piece suits that are supportive and flirty at the same time.

Athleta has some great tankini sets. I have this one in a different print but am considering buying this one also. I like that the top has a shelf bra with removable cups, that provide more support than just the regular shelf bra that a lot of tankini tops have.

Travelsmith (http://www.travelsmith.com/shopping/browse/directorymain.jsp?ruleID=805&itemID=683&sortBy=0&path=1%2C2%2C678%2C683&itemType=CATEGORY&page=1&itemID=683&itemType=CATEGORY&path=1%2C2%2C678%2C683&page=1&sortBy=0&viewXviewAll=54) has some cute suits and tankinis, and this description of most of the tankini tops sounds like what you're looking for...
Slimming and sporty, these color-contrast swim separates give everybody something to cheer about. Patented control inner lining front and back, sculpts your body making you look one size smaller. Floating underwire bra with soft cups offers support and comfort.
They're also cut a bit longer, too, which helps to hide things a little better. ;)

I don't know how much support it gives, but I love this Calvin Klein one in Victoria's Secret

I just bought the best swim suit, size 12, on line, yep on line at macys.com It is a Miracle Suit, takes care of the mommy tummy that I have had for 18 years now....hehe Nice support throughout the whole suit. First suit I ever bought on line and I love it. The first one I bought was the wrong size, so macys.com took it back and sent a new one too. Nice huh? Anyway, Miracle suit has some nice one piece suits, I got a chocolate brown one, with a halter top and scoop back. Fits the leg area great, not too high. Check it out. Good luck. Debbie

Buffygirl, I think we might have the same size body. I'm a 34DD on top and a 10 or 12 on the bottom. I found a great tankini last night at a swimsuit store. It was a D cup top and had separates so you could get the right bottom size. It was an Ann Klien.

HI! I may actually be able to help here. I have been on the hunt for the perfect swimsuit for about 3 years and I have just recently figured a few things out after all this time---larger chests DO NOT work in most swimsuits (I have a larger chest), but they do work with halter type tops--though it can also put a lot of strain on the neck (I haven't quite figured out what to do about that yet).
2 bathingsuits I have found recently (yes 2--that is HUGE for me) at Lord & Taylor (I didn't find these same ones at Macy's or any other department stores-just L&T) have either a tie halter or a clip--if it clips you almost always will have to have it taken up in the straps so it lifts the chest! big must and most bigger chested women don't realize this-they keep looking for the one that "fits"---they never fit so find one that you think is the most flattering and bring it in to be tailored-you will be so happy.
Also-you will practically never spend less than $100 for a bathingsuit and then depending where you live probably $30 for tailoring.
Another small tactic you may try is find bottoms that have a belt on them-I am very athletic, but have always had a tummy--the belt hides the tummy and makes my stomach look smoother. Don't buy the bottoms too small-or too big for that matter-I am a six 6 on the bottom and I always buy Large bathing suit bottoms so they don't dig in and show fat--it makes for a smooth fit, but if you buy them too big they might fall off in the waves!
As for the suit from Athleta--these are super cute-I ordered the brown and blue one-and the colors were awesome (and I hate brown)-but I am a 36 D and the cups were not at all supportive--you would definitely need to have this tailored which is fine - but beware. Another nice thing about this suit (that didn't work for me because I am short and need a bit of tummy showing so I don't look like a muchkin) is the top is long so the top and bottoms definitely meet up!!! (I guess this depends how tall you are--I am a mere 5'2).
Another site to check is Newport News. I ordered a bathing suit from there last year-a tummy control one-and it is great-I probably won't wear it even though I kept it-but it does work! And they are pretty! And the best part is their prices are cheap and the suits are good--my roommate is a bit bigger all around and she loves the bathingsuit from there that I ordered her--it looks awesome and slims her down considerable---it is halter as she is very large on top!
Hope this helps-I know the pains of bathing suit shopping. The Land's End ones look nice too-they had a few of the styles in Sears-they didn't work for me-but they will work for some! Good Luck!!!

I'm 5'3" and did not have any issues with the top being too long. At least for this particular style suit. Their halter tankini (which I don't own) might be different.

Ugh. Swimsuit shopping. It's enough to make you want to drink.
I bought my first in 7 years last month when I went to see my sister in FL and lucked out. I ended up with a black bottom and 2 really cute coordinating tops that hide a multitude of sins.
Good luck to you!

Speaking as a fellow D-cupper I have not found a shelf bra that's up to the challenge. I sag and actually look flat chested. I've had much better luck with underwires. A halter top might work too if it's big enough to cover. Underwires are comfortable for me, anyway. My best ones are Land's End and Victoria's Secret, although I admit to not looking the last couple years.
I'm happy to be reading this thread right now--it's very timely. I haven't had a new suit in years and it's time. We are taking a couple of water-oriented trips this year and I really want to have something I feel good in (is that possible? ).
I really like the ones in the Land's End catalog. I like the three piece suits that have the little skirt thing too. Also, I see they have some swim shorts as well as some swim skorts. Now those really appeal to me. The biggest problem I have is letting my caboose and thighs wiggle all over the place. I have a good bit of junk in my trunk. While it doesn't bother me in clothes, I'm not crazy about the rest of the world seeing it.
Let us know what suits you try. I'd love to get a review of these Land's End ones.

TKay, Title Nine has quite a few board short options that go with their suits so you might look there.

I have the EXACT same problem. DD on top and smaller on the bottom. I've looked around for the last couple years without any success. I decided to try out Lands End. I entered my measurements and went surfing for a suit.
I don't know about you, but I tried a halter style last year. I almost broke my neck when I let go of the suit after tying it! The "girls" can be quite heavy! So those are out. And then I tried a crossover. No way --- made me look like "torpedo boobs". :D
This one was a recommendation on Lands End with my measurements. The top I ended up having to get in the plus size and the bottoms in regular. I received my suit last week. I'm very pleased with it. It has lots of support and is very comfortable and flattering.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Thank you all!!! I knew you would come through. Robyn, great idea about the board shorts. That would at least cover my rumply legs. And thanks everyone for the great ideas on tops. Off to shop, I will let you all know what I come up with. Thank you so much!!!

I'm reporting back on what I found. I searched on line for hours and had a really hard time finding what I was after in the right color and size. Many of the sizes were already sold out in the larger tops.
I ended up going to Macy's and (cringe) trying on about 5 suits. I found a line there by the name of Coco Reef. You buy the tops and bottoms separately and the tops are sized by bra size!!! Joy!!! I thought I won the lottery!
Dillards (link below) has a pretty good online selection.

Happy shopping.

Kim, thanks for reporting back. I dread the swimsuit try-on! :D I ended up ordering a tankini from Lands End with a swim skort bottom. It hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know if it's going to work yet. I'm also going to check out the board shorts at Title Nine (thanks, Robyn). I have trouble with some suits because I have a surgical scar across my belly, so the suit can't sit too low. I hope I have luck like you! Enjoy your new purchase.
Let me see if I can post the link to what I bought:

Kim,
I'm glad you found something! I was actually just thinking about this thread over the weekend when I got my new Athleta catalog in the mail and saw that some of their suits are also sized as you described. Went to their website, and they even have their "C-DD" suits separated out so they are easy to find:

Wish I had found that for you earlier!

I've ordered several suits from Lands' End over the years... they're one of the few places (along with LL Bean) that I can find a long torso suit.
The nice part about ordering from them is that if you need to make a return, you can do it at Sears. Oh, and Sears does carry some of their suits so you can try them out there.

Thanks Eva! We have a pool in our backyard so having more than one suit that fits, while a fantasy, is a must:p I think those suits on Athleta are new, that is exactly what I need. I think I'm going to order one of those too!!!
I'm glad everyone is having some success!

I also have a large chest, and I've found that going to a seamstress and having her sew in a wire bra to the lining of the top helps keep the puppies up!

Just bumping this up to see if anyone has any more recent sources for interesting suits.
I don't have specific body type preferences, it's just that so many of the suits and the prints are ugly. And plain black is just that, plain. (And I am so pale that the stark contrast is less than flattering.)
Athleta, which was mentioned earlier in the post, has some interesting options, and I may order one from there.
I just want a tankini that isn't all black, isn't ugly, and isn't a halter. This year that seems to be a rare combo.
And BTW, the one that looks interesting at Victoria's Secret is already backordered to 3/20. My vaca is next week.

FWIW, the Swimsuits from LL Bean are very well made and have lots of support.
The prices are pretty decent, too.
Hope this helps. Happy Shopping! :)

Let us know what suits you try. I'd love to get a review of these Land's End ones.
My bathing suit is from Land's End. I'm a size 10, with a DD almost DDD bra size. My Land's End suit is made of some heavy duty stuff. It's hot and tough to get on and off, but it keeps everything where it belongs. It looks like a tankini with a skirt, but it is actually all one (heavily lined) piece. I went down the slide at a water park recently and no spectators were injured.:D

I've gotten some great swimsuits from Eddie Bauer. I'm 6'1, a little on the large chested side and trying to get rid of my mom belly. They have long torso Miracle suits that are a dream come true for me. :p
