I can't believe I'm going to be the first person to post about AI last night!

I honestly don't know who is going to go home - I know who I want it to be but all 3 of them did a SPECTACULAR job last night. What you would hope the final 3 would bring if they really wanted to win.

Personally I would like to see Melinda take it all the way but any of the 3 of them would be alright - they are all marketable which is the main thing anyway as far as the producers are concerned.

So what did anyone else thinkg?

My thoughts exactly. She has been the most consistant IMHO.

I like all of them this year, with Blake as my favorite. I felt bad for Jordin last night -- they picked terrible songs for her. Her third song was fantastic but overall, Blake and Melinda outperformed her. Because of that I am predicting that Jordin will go home tonight.

Blake definitely has a following and I believe he'll be successful regardless of whether he goes home now or remains. He's not my favorite, but I don't care for his style and likely wouldn't buy any of his music. That's a personal perference. I prefer Jordin and Melinda and I believe they've both been more consistent throughout than Blake has, though he's certainly improved. I lean toward Melinda as my favorite. She needs to up the personality a bit, though.

I think the producers did the best job of picking songs. I think that Maroon 5 song for Blake was the most voice appropriate song he's sung in some time.

They did mention that Melinda's third song was a repeat for her but wasn't Jordin's third song a repeat as well? I really enjoyed Jordin's third song.

I'm hoping for Melinda and Jordin in the finale.

I agree that it wasn't the most phenomenal night. I seem to recall this happening in past years as well. It's like the contestants sort of run out of steam toward the end.
The only one I'd be really bummed about if she left is Jordin. I really like all three of them, but I'd love to see her in the final. I think Melinda has been consistently good, but she seems sort of old fashioned to me--not so current. Does anyone else think this? She has a fantastic voice, but is very Gladys Knight to me. Jordin is more timely.
As for Blake, I really do like him. I think he's fresh and talented, but I can't stop thinking of him as a New Wave guy. The Maroon 5 song was his best, for sure. I'm not positive I'd like him in the finals, but I wouldn't be disappointed if he made it.
Bottom line: I'd like Melinda and Jordin in the finals, but I'm fine with all three of them.

I have picked Jordin from the beginning. I have to admit , I am nervous because her performances last night. She really should of stepped outside of the box and move a little more on stage. Melinda has great talent, but not an outgoing Idol image . I did not like her performances as much last night. She finally has loosened up! Blake needs to leave tonight. They all should be proud on how far they have come.

I think Jordan will go. Overall I felt she didn't do as well as the others. But, hey you never know. I try to stay awake but usually fall asleep and have to listen to the today show to find out who the winner is.

I would like to see Melinda and Jordin in the finale, with Melinda winning it all. She has been the most consistent throughout this competition. If AI is really a singing competition like they say it is, then Melinda should win, hands down.

My problem with Blake is I don't think he's as good a singer as Melinda or Jordin. He sings very well, but has a very narrow niche. As I read somewhere else, I think he's a one trick pony. I haven't seen him sing a song where he started out slow and then blew the roof off the joint. He sings in a very level tone, to me. When they were playing back parts of the three songs that he sang last night, I wasn't watching the TV and it sounded like 2 of the songs were one.

That's why I hope he goes home tonight.

I really believe that the judges opinions should be a part of the formula for who stays and who goes. Let America pick the idol for the in the finals, if that's what they need to keep the winner as "america's idol". The judges don't always agree, so it would be more interesting and possibly more credible. The very fact that Sanjaya hung on for all of those weeks lessened the credibility of the show from the beginning. Some other contestant should be going on that tour in his place. His spot is a wasted spot. I'm not sure I'll follow the show in its entirety again or even watch it at all.

This is the first AI season that I've actually lost interest in. I still want to know who will win, but once it got down to around 6 contestants left I haven't really seen the show. I catch recaps here and there. I think the show is too drawn out in the beginning. I like Nashville Star - they start out with the top ten. You don't have to suffer through all the bad auditions week after week. I very well may not watch AI next season. That said, I hope Jordin wins! :)

The show's been on for 6 seasons, and something like this happens every year. The best singer rarely wins- it's not shocking, it's the way the show works. I find the public outcries kind of amusing- is it really that important who wins? All three of these contestants are getting scads of high-profile exposure and if they're meant to have careers, they will. Melinda will do just fine, and neither Jordin nor Blake will be an unworthy winner, though I would put my money on Jordin.

Agreed! :)

I think sometimes those who don't win are better off - less AI obligations (which can be kind of hokey), but they are still a household name and if truly talented, have plenty of people lining up to hand them contracts......

I really think American Idol should make some changes to improve the credibility of this so-called "singing competition." Melinda (probably one of the best singers ever on AI) was sent home and AI is no longer a singing competition. This show is being controlled by little girls. How else can you explain the Sanjaya fiasco? Blake is getting the Sanjaya vote. Of course, Blake is talented, but is he a great singer? I don't think so. Is he an "American Idol", again - No.

I think the judges should have some input on who goes and who stays. I liked the way "Grease - You're the One That I Want" did their judging. The judges would pick the bottom two each week and then the public would decide between those two.

This show is being controlled by little girls.

But if that's who AI decides they want to market to, then they are getting what they want.

It is a singing competition, but, at least for the producers, it's also about making money. And they are making money hand over fist no matter who wins.

There have been plenty of less talented people than Blake who have brought in a lot of money for a lot of people. Michael Bolton, anyone? Not a great comparison, but just an example of someone who was VERY one-dimensional and was VERY popular. Heck, at least Blake would probably be writing his own songs and helping to produce the music, rather than just being a mouthpiece.

I was shocked when Melinda went home, but everyone is right, she will have just as many opportunities (and maybe more) by going out early.

Blake won me over a little bit more this week, he can actually be very good. This seems to depend on his song choice and how well it fits his voice, like the Maroon 5 song seemed a perfect fit. IMHO he actually sounded better on that song than Maroon 5 did last night!

I'm glad it worked out this way...now I don't have to miss a single minute of the "Lost" season finale.

Well - sitting there last night I was so confident that Melinda was going to go all the way - Melinda & Jordin in the finale together - the way I thought it should be from the beginning and BOOM! Shocked? Yes. Distraught that she didn't win? No because she is a talented young lady and will do well wherever she lands.

As I said earlier, any of the 3 would be fine - I really do hope now that it's Jordin for the same reasons I'm kind of happy for Melinda. Blake will be better put to use in a different genre than AI will have him or allow him to go. He knows that as well and actually expected to go home last night and he would have been fine.

So, go BLAKE! go JORDIN! May the best one win!!!

p.s. and as SOON as Melinda's album comes out - I'm buying it!

I was very sad to see Melinda go as well but Elliot (my last year's favorite) is proof that coming in third is not a bad thing! I thought he was great and seemed so happy.

This may not have been AI's best season ever but I still enjoyed it and will be back next year for sure. This year is a first for me in that I love both of the finalist's and would be happy to see either win. Jordin is the better singer by far but Blake is inventive, talented and has charisma. Next week should be great!

I never vote, so I have no gripes. I have a feeling a lot of Melinda's fans didn't vote either. It's all about getting out the vote, and the judges' enthusiasm probably made a lot of people think she didn't need their help.

I kind of expected it when Jordin was told first that she was one of the finalists. Did anyone else hear Ryan say before the last commercial break something like "We're taking a break and then Melinda is going home"? I couldn't believe I heard that. I think he meant they would show tape of her trip home to Nashville, but it seemed like a prediction of what was soon to be announced! I think Melinda will have a great career. And she was such a class act! She showed maturity, grace, and style after she was told she was going home! What a woman!

As for next week, I think either Blake or Jordin could win...but I hope it's Jordin! I think she'll has more versatility and staying power than Blake. I sometimes get tired of the beat-boxing.

Does anyone watch the American Idol Extra show? I watched Melinda's interview last night. It was done right after she was eliminated. She was very impressive. I noticed that she didn't cry like many of the others did. She was entirely gracious and so likable. Now that I've heard her talk quite a bit, I think its a shame that she won't be the idol because she's sincerely a good person, who would make a good role model for the younger set who watch the show. She's got the talent and the grace.

She said she forgot a line when she sang "I'm a Woman", and just said some gibberish at that point. I didn't catch that and neither did the guy interviewing her. I guess the judges didn't catch it either or they thought it was some sort of style change. Did anyone notice that she forgot a line?
