I know this has been asked in the past, but apparently "right" is too common for the search function and "mac" is too small. Kind of defeats the purpose of a search funcion, but i digress...

I just got my BRAND-NEW BABY, a MacBook, in the mail today. It is gleaming and white and I think it even smiled at me. ;)

This is my first Mac, and I can't figure out how to right click. I thought that with a Mac desktop you just hold down the mouse button to simulate a right click, but I'm trying that with no success.

Any Mac experts out there?

Depending on the application, the modifiers are the Apple, Option or Control keys -- some shortcuts use various combos.

The Apple mouse has no right click but you can upgrade to one which does have that function -- along with some other great features. Mine is the wireless version that uses Bluetooth and I could never go back to a plain corded model -- when I use my friends' Macs I sorely miss these extended functionalities.

Like most Apple products, the upgraded mouse is quite sleek as it doesn't have separate buttons -- tiny scroll in the middle and two squeeze things which also can be programmed for shortcuts.

That's what I do with my iBook so I can't imagine what else there is to do. I'm on the desktop ("cube") right now and it has a keyboard and mouse, so I can't simulate, but it's always worked for me.

Will this help:

found it: you put two fingers on the trackpad and click the mouse. This feature has to be enabled by going to system preferences, then go to keyboard, then select trackpad and go from there.

Wow, that sounds kind of whacky for Macintosh! They usually make everything so straight forward. But glad you got your answer.
