Just had a fabulous dinner at a restaurant on the island called Genoa Bay Cafe. The meal was wonderful and I especially liked the art just before you entered the restaurant.

Not sure if it all shows up in my picture but it is three different wooden spoons, a zester and in the back a veggie peeler. :)

Wow Cookieee I thought I was up late but you definitely have me beat. :)
I had a seafood linquine which contained shrimp, scallops, mussels and halibut. It was delicious. DH had seafood stuffed chicken breast. Here is the website so you can see some of what they have to offer. It is a beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. We will be going back again for sure.

I love static pictures like that! I wonder if they were done by a local artist, or bought outside your region. I'd love to get my hands on one!

I just looked around at the website- no word where the art is from, but the cafe is quite charming!

Sorry I guess I didn't express myself very well.

This wasn't a picture but actually carved wooden spoons. The zester was metal with a wooden base and, of course, the peeler was metal. I would guess they were about 7 feet tall. They were outside the entrance under the covered walkaway which led down to the marina.

Well that's even cooler :)

(Sorry for not reading more carefully the first time!)

My fault for 1) posting late at night and 2) I guess I should have called it something else...pop art maybe? :D

I would guess they were about 7 feet tall.

I was going to ask if they were oversized... that's pretty cool!

(By the way, we're well into our Canada unit of study with my 5th graders- they are so into it, thanks in part to the materials you sent me. I had two girls tell me today that they want to convert... to Canadian! ;) )

Hey, thanks for the link! It's amazing how many places on the island I have never even heard about before.

Andrea glad to see that you could use the material I sent you. We could always use two more Canadians, eh :D

Oceanjasper....we bought a new car recently and we have been exploring the island more. DH was born in Victoria and even he hasn't seen it all yet. My sister just moved to the Duncan area so we are getting more familiar with that area as well. If you ever get down to the Duncan area a must see is the Cowichan Bay Village. They have a fantastic cheese shop called Hilary's Cheese (Try the Horseradish cheese hmmm), The Udder Guy ice cream store is there, http://www.udderguysicecream.com
True Grain Bread is wonderful http://www.truegrain.ca :D

We hope to get up your way during the summer to do more exploring up that end of the island. :)

I was in Cowichan Bay Village last summer and loved it. The one place I stopped was Hilary's and True Grain Bread! I definitely want to go there again when I have more time to explore. I'll be down in Victoria with my Mom later this week. Maybe we will have to stop by the ice cream shop in Cowichan Bay on the way home!
