We're having trouble coming up with a great christening gift idea for our godson. The christening is in a few weeks.
I thought about savings bonds or stocks but that just seems too cold for such an important religious event. A cross neckless would work for a girl but doesn't seem right for a boy.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Maybe a children's bible and a savings bond?

At Joey's Christening last year, we received everything from baby crosses, to a holy water holder, to non-religious things like clothes, etc. One nice thing my parents got was a shadowbox similar to this:

which we now have in his room. (I have to look at his again..it is a little more religious in nature than that one. We put a cute Christening picture of him in there).

How about an engraved photo frame or perhaps a decorative cross? I would go with something that is classic rather than cutesy so he'll appreciate it when he is older, and is less likely to grow out of it.

For my son's baptism, he received toys and clothing, but I really appreciated the special items to mark the day. There was a nice photo frame with "Baptsm" on it that we put a picture in. My DH ordered a Bible with his name engraved on it, along with the date of Baptism. It is a little smaller and designed more for a young teen - teen. I think he will really like it when he is older and it will always remind me (and the parents of your godson) of the special day and the meaning behind it.
