Is anyone interested in starting a Supper Club in the Richmond, Virginia area? I have been checking the bulletin boards for a while now and have not seen a posting for a Virginia Supper Club. Let me know if you are interested and where you are.

I'm interested. I'm in Mineral, so I guess it depends on which side of Richmond it is. 8)

Yeah, somebody finally responded. I was beginning to think that there were no other CL devotees in Virginia. I live in Richmond's southside but would be willing to travel a little ways every now and then for a Supper Club. Refresh my memory...where is Mineral? How close is it to Richmond? Do you know anyone else that would be interested in joining the Supper Club? I'm probably going to ask some friends of mine here to see if they are interested. I guess now we should see if we can get others to join us and then start planning a get-to-know you dinner somewhere to plan out how the Supper Club will work. I'm so glad that you responded. I hope we can really get one of these clubs going. From all the stuff I read on the BB they seem to be a lot of fun.

Hi, I live in Richmond (the Fan) and am interested in forming a local supper club. I don't have room to host a large number of people, but a small group (up to 6) would be fun.

Hi KathleenL,
That's great that you live in the Fan! I work in the Fan and my siblings live there on Park Ave. I'm sure that the group won't get so big that you won't be able to host at your place. Right now it's you, me and dibranchia. Maybe after we get a few more replies we can plan to meet for dinner somewhere centrally located to get to know each other and plan out who will host the first club and what the menu will be. I'm very excited about starting one of these clubs and hope that this one will take off.

Did y'all already set up the supper club? I live in the near west end and am very interested!

We've been waiting for a few more responses before trying to proceed. Why don't we try to get together to figure out what we want to do next. Switch to email at this point?

Hi Kledavis,
We haven't set anything up just yet. With your response though, I think we are closer to getting started. I'm going to e-mail KathleenL and dibranchia and try to set up a time to meet. You didn't have an e-mail address listed, so this is how I'll contact you. Would this upcoming week be too soon for you. Maybe we could meet somewhere in the Fan or in the West End and have dinner and discuss possibilities for our first dinner. Let me know if this works for you.

Next week should be fine - let me know what y'all decide!

Katherine,
How about meeting Wednesday, May 16th at 6:30 pm at Mosaic Restaurant. The restaurant is located in the shopping center right before you go south over the Hugenot Bridge, acouple of doors down from Talbots. Let me know if this works for you and if you need better directions.

Maria,
Next Wednesday at Mosaic is fine. If anything comes up in the meantime, I have updated my profile with my e-mail address. Looking forward to it.
Katherine
One question - how should i find you at the restaurant - are you making a reservation? (i've never eaten there before) thanks for setting all this up!

My husband and I are moving to Richmond (Chesterfield) next week from Northern Virginia. Are you all still looking for people to join your supper club?

I'm from Richmond, born and raised in the southside, and lived near the fan for a long time before moving to Florida. All of my family still lives up there and I visit from time to time, especially in the fall. In fact, I'll be up there in Oct. Are you guys still getting together? One of my sisters that lives up there may also be interested.

I just got my new CL and am so excited to see an article about Supper Clubs. Is there anyone in the West End interested in starting a new one? We are about to move into a new house so it might be a month or so before we can get started but I wanted to see if anyone is up to it. My husband is especially interested in wine so that could be a special focus if we wanted. Let me know!

Jenny - I haven't heard from anyone but you and Julie....so, I don't know if they put a group together or not. BUT, my husband and I are very interested in joining/starting a supper club AND are also quite interested in wine. We will be located south of Richmond (Chesterfield) - that isn't too far from the West End, is it? It will take us about a month to get settled as well so hopefully we can stay in touch.

Southside isn't too far away and I wouldn't imagine we'd do this more than once a month or so, so it should be fine. Let's wait until we all get settled. I imagine there will be more posts on the subject because of the recent article so hopefully more people will join. Talk to you soon.

I figured the article would prompt people to check out this site! So far, nothing has been set up. Liz responded to my post - she will be in Chesterfield and settled in about a month. We are in the West End and will be moving in 2 weeks. I would say the first dinner could be in about a month or so. Where are you?

Can anyone tell I am really getting into this? I want to know how many couples/people we should limit the club to (due to space limitations, etc.). I read the helpful hints for starting a club, and they suggest meeting at a restaurant the first time to "break the ice." I think that is a good idea but then would like to take turns cooking at each other's homes. Restaurants are fine but get expensive. Also, I really like the idea of trying different types of cuisine each time. These are just some of my thoughts. I can't wait for this to get started!

I am in southside technically but live very close to the west end. It takes me no time to get to that side. I totally agree about meeting at a restaurant for the first time. There will be a lot to talk about at that first meeting i am sure.
a month sounds good. i am in the middle of studying for the cpa exam in november. so i am in class every saturday and some sundays. so time is a little tight for me right now (if that makes sense). but i would love to get a supper club going. i am a pretty good cook but i know that i have a lot to learn and love to try new recipes.
i am so excited about this but it will be interesting to see what my fiance says about it. heehee.
talk to you later.

Hi y'all!!! I finally dug my computer out of all the boxes and logged in! Glad to see that there is a lot of interest in a supper club...I can't wait to get started. Jenny - I think the restaurant idea is great - let me know where (I think you all will have to pick....) and we'll be there.
Jenny - good luck on your move! and Theresa, good luck with the CPA exam!
Talk to you soon...

hi all, i am also a Richmond person looking to be involved in a supper club. i live in the West End and would love to get to know a few ppl here in Richmond who share some of my same interests, that includes learning to cook "good for me" foods.
i just went thru some surgery last week and will be out of work for the next 6....so i would love to piece together for us anything that can be done, as i am homebound and slightly bored already. so let me know who is interested, and i can work some magic from there...
i am also writing on behalf of a friend of mine who lives in South Side, so i would also like to consider including her if she chooses.
hope to hear from you all soon.

Hi, I live outside of Charlottesville and would like to start a club. Richmond is not too far. However, I'm 58, so this would have to be a mixed-age group. Hope we can do it.

Karen - we are still in the planning stages right now. I haven't heard back from anyone regarding what restaurant to meet at or potential dates...I think everyone is busy w/ moving, studying etc. As far as I know, we are still looking for more people to join! I guess we'll have to play it by ear...

ok, i wrote a few days ago and seems like there have been a few posts since...
i would like to go ahead and set a date/time for a dinner/lunch meeting somewhere now.
how about in another week to two weeks....how about towards the weekend of the 22nd of sept. there are many great places to meet at, but i was thinking...maybe a buffet would be a good place to meet...maybe Sino's or another great buffet on southside by the old rack and sack. they both offer a good variety of food and i think both would offer a good "get to know you" kind of atmosphere.
so what do you all think???

Sounds good to me. I have only lived here since Sunday -- so any place is new to me. If we meet the weekend of the 22 -- Sunday would be best for me. If we did it on the 22 -- I could only attend in the evening - after 6 pm.

sounds great...i think we can go ahead and peg it to that Sunday then.
please, any one else interested, let me know...i would love to have a group of 6 or 8 ppl. that seems like a good group.
well, off to watch more TV. i never imagined foot surgery to be so exhausting....but for once i get a chance to lay in bed and watch TV all day and read all night and sleep when i want.

Hi everybody
I have been out of the loop due to work and our big move. Thanks for moving forward with this Tiffany! Are we saying Sunday the 23rd for the 1st meeting? Time and place? We will be moved by then so it should work well for us. How many people are we going to limit this to? I think we should have a roll call to see who is involved. My husband and I are definitely interested.

It sounds like this is finally getting started. I say we meet on Sunday the 23rd in the evening for dinner. Any suggestions for a restaurant? Someplace downtown to make it convenient for everyone? We live in the West End out near Innsbrook but are willing to meet wherever. My husband and I are planning to be there but I should warn you that I am having my gallbladder out on the 18th so there is a chance I may not make it.
I am excited about this!

i still have the 23rd marked on my appointment book. i hope to be up and walking a little by then...
any suggestions on where to meet would be great. i normally never eat out, as i enjoy to cook instead.

i say this because of all that has been happening in the past week in the country.

WE can do this Sunday or next. If you want to postpone...no problem. But perhaps we all need something else to think about and to go about our lives so the B***ds don't win.
I'll check the site tommorrow and find out what the concensus is.
Look forward to meeting you all.

Hello!
I posted elsewhere that I'm new to Richmond and would love to join the group if possible. I was a founding member of the Northern Virginia group and miss it!
Thanks!

Carla - didn't you used to cook in Northern Virginia? I just moved to Richmond from Ashburn, VA and seem to remember you doing cooking demos at the Kitchen Etc. in Sterling. Are you the same person?
Regarding the supper club - no one answered my last post...so I don't know what's happening. My husband and I are still very interested in joining/starting one in this area. We are south of Richmond in Chesterfield. Where are you located?

Hi Lizzy!
I did cook in NoVa, but not in Sterling. That must've been my evil twin :D .
I live in the West End in the Short Pump area of Glen Allen.
Let's see where this ends up...maybe someone will see our posts and get back to us.
Thanks for the reply!

Hi all - looks like we all got distracted with other stuff...glad to see everyone is interested again! Do we want to meet at a restaurant as planned before? You all will have to pick the place (being new to the area, I have no idea what's good). How about the 26th or 27th? (My husband and I are away the next two weekends - but we could also do something on a Sunday night..)
What do you think? (I can't wait to start cooking!!!!)

Hello!
I second the idea for a Sunday night get together. I'd like to offer up 10/28 and see how that is received. I can't do the 26th or 27th, we have a Halloween party every year and this year it's on the 27th, much to prepare for!
Does anyone else get the impression this is a tangent group? It seems like with all of the interest shown in recent past, a group must be in place already?
I hope we can make it happen!

Hey Everybody,
I'm really out of the loop on this thread. Originally when I started this thread about a supper club in Richmond I didn't get many takers. A small group of us met in May, about 5 people and we agreed to start a club. We had our first dinner in July at my house with a grill theme. Everything went great, but then the group fizzled a little. I guess everyone got busy and had other commitments. We were supposed to meet again in September, but then everything happened and we never did. To make a long story short, I'm not sure we still have a group going, but it seems like some new people have started their own supper club and maybe there are two now.
If anyone from either of those groups still needs members please let me know. I was really excited about the first group and then it didn't materialize. Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you would like and let me know if the group needs any more members. Thanks.
