It's my parent's 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, and I would like to have part of the decorations to reflect what was "popular" in 1967. We will have some wedding pictures and stuff around, but I also thought it would be fun to have a picture where my dad is sitting in his chair (then) and a list of the top ten T.V. shows then....

and maybe I could still find some of the popular candy from 1967.

My google search skills need help - I can't seem to come up with a query that points to what I'm looking for, so thought I would seek help here! :D

Do you have a Bob Evans near by? That's the only place that I can think of that sells those books ..if you were born in 19XX so maybe that would help you with what was going on at the time.

I *think* I've seen them at greeting card stores but I couldn't tell you which one. Good luck!!

Ooh, I got all excited because I just scooped up a bunch of mint vintage Reader's Digests today, they would've been a good prop but upon investigation they are from 1968-69. I probably couldn't have gotten them out to SD in time, though!

If you ever have a need like this again, give me a shout - I've got all kinds of crazy vintage things in my shop. I could think of things like cookbooks or aprons that might have been fun to use! I've sent a few CLBBers things I know they collect, at no charge, in case anyone is worried I'm abusing the board here...

Good Luck with the party! Would love to see pics of whatever you end up using as props.

I googled 1967 television shows. I think there are a few you can use -- The Carol Burnett Show debuted! Good luck with the party!

You've gotten some great suggestions which should be helpful in the short time you have left.

Meanwhile, I've bookmarked them all for ME! DH and I were married on December 23, 1967, and on the theory that no one not planning to ski would have any interest in coming to Tahoe for a party at that time of year, we are planning a party on our "reciprocal" (June 23 or thereabouts). The suggestions should come in very handy!

Thanks so much for the website links and suggestions!

Kay -

I'm also planning some of the food items around "popular" recipes from 1967, and I'm going to an "antique" store (and I mean "antique" in a liberal sense) to see if I can find a 1960s cake top, and other 1960s memorabilia to have around.

Also picked up from Best Buy a music from the 1967-1969 for background. Since some of my aunts and uncles are in their 70s and 80s, they may not appreciate the music selection as much, but I'm sure my parents will! :)

Wasn't 1967 the "Summer of Love?" That would tie in nicely with the anniversary celebration. Also, I'm pretty sure that the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" album was released in '67. Happy Anniversary to your parents!

Happy Together (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MEJkIVDR-c), by the Turtles was a big hit in '67.

I think the song holds up as good now as it did back then and would be a good theme song as background music for an anniversary.
