I am planning on starting a Cooking Club in Pittsburgh (south hills area) with some of my friends. Is there anyone in the 'burgh who is interested in joining us?

I hope to have the first session on Saturday July 22nd. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Darinda,
Hello there. I just read your post . I know that you posted this a couple of months ago. I was wondering how it was going? Are you all friends or did you find others through this board? I'd really like to join one of the clubs in my area. Do you have any more room for another 'burg person? Thanks.
Mackie

Just saw this post...a couple of us are meeting tonight (6/7/01) at Uno's at the Waterfront to see if we can get off the ground. We'll be there at 7 pm...feel free to come find us. We'll post again afterwards.

Well, six of us met last night at Uno's: Mary and her husband Tim, Moira and her husband Alasdair (hope I spelled that right!), and my husband Jonas and myself. Over two deep dish pizzas (ironic, I know), we settled on meeting on the second Wednesday of each month, which would make our first meeting October 10 at my place in North Huntingdon. The way we're going to start is that the host will choose a theme and a main entree, and then the others will e-mail the group with the dishes they'd like to bring. It'll be "first-come, first-served" in the sense that if more than one person wants to bring, say, dessert, the first person to reply will get to bring it.

I'm still brainstorming a theme, but I'll try to make a decision in the next couple of days and let everyone know. If you're interested in getting in while the getting's good, drop me an e-mail. We'd love to add a few more people!

Sorry for not getting this out to you sooner, but the
last week has been a little rough, as I'm sure it has
for you as well. I hope that you and yours remain
safe. But on to cheerier subjects...

The theme I've chosen for the October 10 supper club
meeting is "Fall Favorites" (I really did choose it
before the new issue came yesterday!). I was thinking
that each of us could contribute a tried-and-true
favorite that's perfect for fall. With that in mind,
I've chosen to make Chile-Cheese Chowder from the
Jan-Feb 2000 issue, page 130.

So the next step is for each of you to reply (to the
group, please) telling us what you'd like to bring. As
we stated at the Uno's meeting, first-come,
first-served.

Also, in your reply, please let us know if there are
any vegetarians among us or if there might be
allergies we need to know about.

I'll e-mail directions to my house as we get a bit
closer, but for reference, we're very close to the
Irwin exit on the Turnpike. Shall we meet at 7:00 pm?
Earlier, later? My kitchen's a decent size, but I was
thinking that folks could do most of the work on their
own and just do the finishing touches at my place, at
least until we see how things go. But I'm open to
suggestion...

If there's anyone else I need to e-mail regarding the
club (spouses or other potential members), just let me
know. Also, if you'd like me to take you off the list,
let me know that, too.

Let me know if I've forgotten anything. Can't wait to
hear back from you all!

Hi all!

We're getting close to October 10, so I thought I'd post again. Just to recap, the theme is "Fall Favorites," and here's our menu so far:

Chile-Cheese Chowder
Dutch West Indian chicken kabobs with Peanut sauce
Foccacia

Can everybody bring copies of their recipe for everyone? And you can e-mail me for directions.

I would like to confirm our headcount ASAP so I can make sure I've got enough of everything. I think I'll keep it easy & casual, so I'll serve buffet style. Just so I know what to expect, does anyone know if they'll need to do any recipe finishing here? There should be plenty of space, since I'll do my soup ahead of time.

I also wanted to mention that Jonas & I don't drink much, so we suggest you BYOB. Weren't there some wine buffs among you?

Can't wait to see you all!

Hi all!

Just wanted to take a minute to quickly report on the Supper Club get-together we had October 10. It was fabulous! We had a terrific time...the food was fabulous and the company even better. As host, I made Chile-Cheese Chowder from the Jan-Feb 1999 (I think!) issue, and Mary brought Garlic-Herb Bread Pudding from the last issue (November, I believe). They went together perfectly, and the bread pudding was so good that I ended up making it for my in-laws the following weekend!

We're ready to do it again, and if we follow what we agreed on in our initial meeting at Uno's, we'd pick the second Wednesday of the month again, which would be November 14. Now, as you may remember, Mary's expecting her baby on November 8, I think, so I'm assuming she won't be able to join us this next month. I'm willing to host again if no one else is able to.

Looking ahead to December (12/12), Mary had said that in her Cincinnati supper club, they did a meal of all appetizers in December. Easy, low-stress, but very festive. Sounds good to me...that'd probably be my ideal meal anyway!

At any rate, who's in for November?
