I am *horrible* at remembering dates of holidays/birthdays/anniversaries. Well, I went to lunch with a co-worker and he was complaining about this weekend having to work and it's father's day.

I have a panic attack because I've done nothing for my dad or FIL for father's day, and I so I quickly ordered them some fresh fruit from Harry and David's - and pay $14.95 EACH for expedited shipping so it arrives by this Friday just in time for father's day. I called my mom to let her know that the package is arriving Friday for father's day on Sunday and she tells me that it is next Sunday. DRAT! I just flushed about $30 down the drain!

Well, if it makes you feel better, I was about to mail dad's card thinking it was this weekend until I read this. ;) :D

That does make me feel better....:D Now, if only I could recoup the money I spent on expedited shipping!

Sherri--if it makes you feel any better, for Mothers' Day my mom asked for a batch of lemon bars & 2 loaves of this particular bread I bake. I knew I'd have to send the lemon bars overnight (something I've done, at moderate expense before--$25 or so) and in some brainless moment I thought "Well, I'll just make a much bigger box and send it all overnight." Didn't really stop to think about the weight. Nor did I know that Fed Ex charges more--rather a good deal more--if you use your own packaging and not their pre-sized boxes. And I didn't find these things out until the Thursday before Mother's Day when I went to ship everything. In short, to send my mother roughly $10 of baked goods, I spent over $100 in Fed Ex fees

I keep telling myself that she's 82 and it's worth it because heaven knows how many more Mothers' Days we'll have. But, uh, yeah, next year? Gonna do that differently.....

Along the line of Gil's story (although not as bad, since the gift itself was at least more than the cost of shopping - sorry, Gil, that sucks!), I waited until the last minute to ship my mom's b-day gift a couple of months ago because I figured it wasn't a big deal to just pay express shipping to make sure it got there on time. Except that it was a diamond pendant, so it over the value of Fed Ex's max insurance coverage. So I had to call a private insurance carrier from the Fed Ex store and arrange for additional insurance. But they had all sorts of requirements that had to be met or the insurance would be void: box couldn't be smaller than a certain size (which was big enough to hold a computer), the item couldn't rattle AT ALL inside the box (so I had to buy gobs of bubble wrap to fill up the remaining space in the box that the tiny pendant box didn't take up), blah, blah. So yeah, it ended up costing me well over $100 to Fed Ex something the size of a ring box.

Sorry, Sherri! That's disappointing, but just think - they'll both have EXTRA FRESH fruit to enjoy this weekend, and hopefully into next weekend too. :)

Although, it may feel like you flushed 30.00 down the drain....I am sure that the fruit will put a smile on two men's faces. and will give you all something to laugh about in years to come. Those are the best memories! PRICELESS

That's not idiotic. If this mistake worries you, you must have your life in order. A real idiotic mistake will cost you $,$$$'s not pocket change. Don't worry too much about it :)

Aren't you glad to have all of us to share your confession?? And I don't know about anyone else, but you made me laugh out loud! Besides that, look at the bright side....you're done shopping for Father's Day. I haven't started!:D

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I left an almost new bottle of VERY expensive shampoo behind at a hotel. Called the next day and of course, they can't find it. Out $30+ bucks on that one.

When I started reading this post, I panicked momentarily thinking, "OMG! Is it Father's Day this weekend??! I totally forgot. I'm such an idiot.. " Then I read your complete post and had a good laugh.:D You had me going... I was convinced I had almost missed Father's Day. Do you feel better knowing your aren't the only one that was confused?!;)

I had a bit of a date mix up myself yesterday. DH and I received an invitation on 5/25 for a graduation party for a former student of his who just graduated from medical school. DH didn't want to go, so I kept asking him to RSVP to let them know (I hate when people don't RSVP!!!). Anyway, he kept "forgetting", so yesterday I called to do it myself. Boy did I feel stupid when I said we couldn't come, only to find out that the party was on 6/2! I hadn't looked at the date closely since DH didn't want to go at all, so it really didn't matter. I guess I just assumed that they'd give more than one week notice.

I always do this sort of thing. At least a lot of people know about it by now and give me near constant reminders of what's coming up!

Well, this might make you feel better, or at least give you a chuckle! :)

This happened to a couple who are friends of our neighbors (no, really, it wasn't us!). It was the Saturday before Mother's Day and the woman's mother was out of town for the weekend. The mother had just bought a new house and really wanted some flowers planted and landscaping done. So, the day before mother's day the husband loaded up the car with all the plants, rosebushes, etc. the wife had picked out to plant. He spends hours planting them all, everything looks great. Figured they would surprise her and have it all done before she got back. The mom gets back home that weekend and they talk to her - she says nothing about the flowers and landscaping. Well, the houses all looked similar on her block and the husband had planted the flowers at the wrong house!!  Too funny.
