I have read Cooking Light magazine for years and recently I have become a monthly subscriber. Now I am a member of this group and I'm so excited about meeting new people and making friendships on-line. I love to cook and strive to continue to learn new techiniques and different cuisines. I am a Bay Area transplant to Redding since 2003 and I absolutely love the beauty of the North State. This is my home and I'll never go back!
Are you new to the North State, too? Or are you a long time resident? Let's get together and cook (and eat) and blend the best of both!
Let's start a North State Supper Club: Redding, Anderson, Red Bluff, Corning and Chico and all the places in between/beyond.
I look forward to a great response. Let's getting cooking!

Hi Terrie, I live in Redding and have been a member of a supper club since I moved here in 2000 from San Jose.
"This is my home and I'll never go back!"
I wish my one friend who is a member would say that but her and her husband are off to new ventures so we may be looking for a new member. If you want to meet to chat, let me know.
Our group consists of 4 women- 3 married, one single, we range in age from mid 40s to 60. We always cook together and then our husbands show up to eat:) .

I absolutely want to join. And...I have someone who has responded to my thread through my email address who may be interested as well. She and her DH have a weekend retreat here in the North State and LUVTOCOOK.
I can't tell you how excited I am!! OMG! I have not accessed the community for a week or so because I didn't think there was anyone here who was tied in to this website.
How do we proceed? Let me know..........T53:)

Laurie,
Needless to say as Terrie53 I fall in the 40 to 60 range. I'm 54 years old and very proud of it. I look forward to hearing from you. And, by the way, my DH is a very good fearless cook.:D And we continue to love the North State. We will never leave this beautiful place!!!

Peggy, the one who is moving told me about your post. I missed it because I was buried at work that week after being on vacation for 3 weeks and hadnt been on the board much.
I can get together anytime after work. Oh one big thing I forgot to mention is our group is really into wine pairing with our food. is that of interest to you?

Absolutely! I can't say I have much experience at knowing which wines compliment certain dishes like a sommelier, but it sound like fun and I am definately game. Is someone responsible for the selections? Or is it the cooks choice? And how does that work? Do you all share in the menu/prep/cooking or does it alternate, etc?
I know every supper club is unique in their format. Do you get together monthly, quarterly, celebrate holiday's? Does everyone live in Redding?
As you can see I have lots of questions. Can you share more details?
Talk to you soon!

Terrie, as far as logistics go, Our June dinner, Peggy is hosting. Her theme is Think Summer, she is doing a grilled chicken, she puts out an email that looks like this
Main: Peggy grilled chicken
apps
soup
salad
side
side
dessert
we respond with what we want to make and as the host she okays it. we each shop for our ingredients and bring them to the hosts house, we usually start at 5:00 cooking and at 7:00 our husbands show up to eat. We keep our receipts of what we bought and then they are divided by 7 (thats how many in our group) or something like that.
I talked to Diane and Carol, could you meet at 5:30 on Tuesday?
my email address is cheflaurie40@sbcglobal.net and my phone is 242-6918

Laurie,
I am so sorry that I have not responded. My Hub and I went away for a long overdue weekend. I have not been on the board since Wed of last week so I missed your reply until today.
I am very interested in joining the group. Meeting you, Peggy, Diane, and Carol would be so great. Are you kidding? I can hardly wait! I am traveling down to Modesto tomorrow for a 3 day meeting. I will not be heading back to the North State until Friday after 5pm.
As the 4th of July is creeping up on us, I'm not sure how to approach this with the group. I would like to take part in the July dinner so let me know how to proceed.
I have your phone number. When is the best time to call? My cell is 530-917-0903. I welcome a call.
I look forward to meeting and talking to you. I am so sorry I missed you this week.
Take care,
Terrie

Woohooo, Laurie! I'm back home. Long meeting but lotsa fun, fun, fun! Sorry I missed your calls. I turned my cell off during the meeting through the evening dinner receptions. I don't like to talk on the road especially with all of the 4th of July weekend traffic. I will call you on Saturday. I have your number.
Take care,
Terrie
