View Full Version : Anyone been to the Bonnaroo Music Festival
My youngest daughter (24 years old) and a group of her friends are making the long trek from Victoria to Tennesee to go to the Bonnaroo Music Festival which starts tomorrow.
I was very nervous (sick actually) at the thought of her driving that far but now that she is well on her way and checking in every two days I am relaxing and just enjoying her stories.
She has had a fabulous time thus far and says the scenery has been fantastic. She just called from St. Louis! ( it is just so strange to think of her being there!). They camped in a beauiful campground last night, swam in the Mississippi River and saw fireflies- seems to be a huge highlight for her :D
Anyway the lineup for the festival looks amazing and the venue is very cool.
Has anyone ever been to this festival? I'd love to hear abit about it.
Road trips when you are in your 20's and with your best friends sound fun. I was home with two young children at that age. :) :o

Oh Maureen I am so jealous of your daughter!!! My DH and I have seen many of the artists playing in various settings (many with Dave Matthews!) It looks like it will be fabulous! I had no idea comedians are there as well. DH is a huge Lewis Black fan. Are they camping as well?
I hope she has a great time!!!:)
yes they are camping.
I know my DD and her friends are not into any of the "mainstream" bands like The Police but I have no idea who she is particularly keen to see.
She has been saving and planning for this trip for months-I never thought it would happen. When reality set in I freaked (inside) but now I just very happy for her.
I do want my daughters to lead full and exciting lives...but inside a heavily cushioned bubble. :o

Unseasonably hot and sticky with chances of rain this weekend (normal for Bonnaroo festival!)

My son and some friends went 2 years ago (he was 25 at the time) They rented an RV for the trip. Had a blast, although Adam has been to many festivals and I think liked others better. There are so many amazing performances- no way to see them all. I think MY favorite (he gave me a cd mix of music he thought I'd like) of new to me bands is Iron & Wine.
Of course I worried while he was traveling and rocking at the festival. I always just pray to Goddess he won't be stupid!!

I was browsing the site and ended up ordering the 2005 2 disc CD. Great bunch of artists live. :)

Charisse, I have the cd's and they are amazing!
I was supposed to be there this week but with changing jobs I couldn't take the time off! I have several friends going and the group of people that are going to this concert are laid back, good people who help others out. Your daughter and her friends will have great fun! The only part of their trip that will be awful will be their drive home!:D
Relax and enjoy that you are giving your daughter this chance to explore the country!

My DD has been several times and really enjoyed. My little hippie at heart. They have a teepee that they pitch, etc. Hope your Daughter enjoys as much as mine has. She would be there, but is 8 months pregnant. She says next year she is taking baby. I told her that (her) Mama was putting her foot down and there was no way she was doing that. I will be baby sitting;)

And at night you can see the glow from the huge light banks and sometimes even hear snatches of music! Today the traffic in front of our house is a never-ending stream, local TV is broadcasting continuously a view of the main access roads from I-24, as well as local roads that lead to the site. Many people from here go, some camping, some in RV's and some just for the day...lots of people here work one day so they can hear the music...an EMT I know here is working there Friday to do just that, and we have a friend who's a physician in Conn. who comes every year, rents an RV, and works first aid !/2 a day just to help out. He loves it. I have another friend who's a million dollar a year banker who is camping out with three friends, came up from Atlanta for the music.
And there are those out pan-handling the long lines of cars waiting to enter the site just to make up money to buy a ticket...about $200-$900 dollars for the 4 day festival, depending on whether or not you camp or Rv, or are in the VIP section with parking. Every motel is full for miles around. It's a million dollars or more impact on the local economy. You daughter will love it, and my prayers for her safety are with her, as well as for your peace of mind.
It is a very peaceful place, and only those who use or overuse drugs are at risk, I think.
Hope she loves it!

Thanks guys. it sounds like something my daughter is going to love!
I trust her completely-she is very level headed...she's a good girl! :D
It is the driving that worries me-lost my father to a car accident when I was 10 and I think that has scarred me.
I don't envy her the LONG drive back to Victoria but with a group of friends one can always make the best of it.
She will be home on the 23rd and full of stories no doubt.
My DD is not used to hot humid weather -hope she holds up okay.
