My mother is getting married in two weeks in her backyard at 1 in the afternoon with a dessert reception to follow. What is the world can I wear? The dress I bought I will wear if I am unable to find anything else but my mother's new husband was quite annoyed that I would wear black to his wedding. This is the dress:

I don't know if that will work or not....

So, any thoughts?

I would not wear a black dress to a 1:00 p.m. garden wedding (although I have not seen the picture). ETA I see it now and wow! I think it's a little too sexy (I really like it though!) Are you in the wedding?

That being said, I would think it would be fairly simple to find something in your closet that would be appropriate, even just a skirt and blouse? Something summery looking?

I love the black dress but since it is his wedding I would respect his wishes. Here are some ideas:

Okay, not sure why the images won't show up but the first is from Ann Taylor Loft the second from Ann Taylor.

Well, I'm planning on wearing a black dress to my cousin's wedding. The wedding is also at 1 pm, but in a church. And the invitation specifies cocktail attire, so I'm probably good.

Ok, I agree it probably is a little too much!
I don't want to wear a skirt and blouse because that's pretty much what I wear to work every day and I want something a bit nicer!

I do like those dresses from AT and Loft....

Erin, you are better off more than I am since the invitation requested cocktail attire!

Yes, I would agree that the dress will be fine for the wedding you are attending.

But since there was already a comment about it from the soon to be new husband, I would probably try to find something else. And that dress is pretty darned sexy, she'd probably show up the bride! :)

Are you close to a Macys?

My brother was getting married at the end of June, and I have searched everywhere for a not-black dress to wear to his Southern wedding. The wedding was postponned until September, so I didn't have to pay $300 for the *one* dress I liked at Marshall Fields. (yeah, it's Macy's now, but I'm not happy about that)

My brother doesn't care what I wear, but this is his second wedding (first public wedding). I didn't want anyone to ASSume that I wasn't happy with the match, because I love my SIL and their little baby. I'm happy that my brother has found someone that makes him happy and keeps him in line.:D

Banana Republic also had some cute dresses. Ann Taylor Loft doesn't fit me right, and nothing popped out at me at Ann Taylor.

Macys is having a dress sale on top of having the largest selection of decent* dresses I've seen this season.

* Not black or black and white, and doesn't look like someone raided 99's closet from Get Smart.

I like this one, except it's bright red. (Is that ok for the sister of the groom?)

I also like this one, but I tried on one similar which looked like a potato sack on.

This is the one I wanted to buy in the store.

I really like this one.

I could get a lot of use out this one other than to a wedding.

Oh, I like the one you wanted to buy in the store!

I work right beside the King of Prussia mall, which is huge and it does have a Macy's. I think I'm going to check ATLoft tomorrow on my lunch break since there is a blockbuster by it and I need to exchange movies. And then Wednesday Ill check out Macy's. It looks like they have some good selections.

I really hate shopping when I have to find something nice!:D

Anyone else find some good ideas please add them here!

I was at Ann Taylor over the weekend and they had some nice dresses on sale.

I love the dress you posted, but don't think you should wear black. It's actually on sale right now in other colors and there are some other good dresses at J. Crew on sale too. The strapless beach dresses are nice too.

I actually ended up getting a brown silk dress from Anthropologie. I think it worked out ok in the end. And when a bottle of red wine exploded on me, it wasn't as noticeable!:D

What a cute dress! That's a shame about the red wine exploding on you:eek: - is the dress ruined? That black dress you originally intended to wear is absolutely beautiful - every woman should have a "little black dress" like that one!

The dress surprisingly isn't ruined, probably b/c it was so darn hot I sweated it clean! ;0) Dh got some on his brand new lacoste shirt, too but we got his out right a way, thank goodness.

My friend took the pictures so as soon as she has them worked through I'll post!
