I'll post pics of Milo this evening. I just got one of him snoring this weekend.

Looking at the pictures reminded me of this poem. It was in a book that I used to love reading to my kids. We still have the book and often recite parts of this when we see our cats sleeping. ;)

Cats sleep anywhere,
any table,
any chair.

Top of piano,
window-ledge,
in the middle,
on the edge.

Open drawer,
empty shoe,
anybody's lap will do.

Fitted in a cardboard box,
in the cupboard with your frocks.

Anywhere!
They don't care!
Cats sleep anywhere.

I'll post pics of Milo this evening. I just got one of him snoring this weekend.

I haven't figured out exactly what he is. He's stripey on the ends and spotty in the middle. His coat is short -- even shorter than Nemo's, and he's a shorthair -- and very satin-y, shiny, smooth, and soft. People always comment on how silky his coat is. I got him from a woman who has a foster cat program, and he was just a baby then and she didn't know his history. Given how he eats and fetches, I'm inclined to think he's part dog. :p I'll have to goggle Silver Egyptian Maus and see if we can't finally solve the mystery of what Hurley is. Thanks, Robyn! :)

Here's a couple of sites:

http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/egyptian.html

http://www.breedlist.com/egyptian-mau-breeders.html

Oh, and my mom's bronze mau LOVES to fetch! I think you may have a mau on your hands! Adgirl has a bronze that we think is distantly related to my mom's (her breeder has a male and a queen from mom's breeder).

The first pic on the first link you posted looks exactly like the pattern on Hurley's back. Exactly! He must be part mau, or mostly mau, or all mau and I got him off the bargain table or something. ;) He's not as scrawny looking as some of the pics, but the little man does love to eat. He will eat and eat until the food is gone, no matter how much you give him, and then beg (unsuccessfully) for more an hour later.

As for the fetching, he started doing that all on his own. No training required. He has these little plastic toy jacks that I got at Walmart (in the cat section, no kids toys), and one day he brought me one. So I threw it. He brought it back. And so from then on he fetched. If there's no one available to throw a jack for him, he carries one to the top of the stairs, bats it so it goes rolling down the stairs, runs down after it, and brings it to the top again. Over and over and over. He is too funny!!

Yep, I'd be willing to bet he's mostly or all mau! Try getting him one of those poles with the string and feather attached to them. Mom's cat, Leo, loves those! They call them catting poles (instead of fishing poles). Leo used to chase my cat, Milo, all over the house when we were there for a month. I think Milo lost like 3 pounds just from being chased! :p

This poem reminded me of DH's Siamese, Sheba...DH went to work one day and wasn't greeted at the door when he got back. Puzzled, he went looking for her. He finally heard a muffled "meow!!"---and found her curled up in his sock drawer. Guess she had a good nap in her little nest. :p

Oh, how I wish I had a cat. I've always had them. Then when I was pg with ds #1, I suddenly became allergic. When our last one died about a year and a half ago, we decided we were done. I've done very little research into the hypoallergenic ones (anyone have experience?), but seeing these photos makes me miss my kitties. I don't, however, miss the catbox.
Thanks for the smile today.

Thanks, Loren --- isn't Mookie a cutie?! She's my baby. I found her at about 4 wks old on the side of the road meowing from hunger. I scooped her up and brought her home to my husband, Maine Coon cat, and two dogs (Yorkie and a Westie who hates cats). She immediately became alpha! She imprinted on my Westie and much to his chagrin, adores him!

Re posting the pictures, I did exactly what you suggested --- and still no success. I am about to give up. I feel like an idiot that I can't make this work.

What a hoot! Reminds me of when we had two cats in our former house. Field mice were working their way into the laundry room via some plumbing holes, and stealing kibble from the kitty food. The cats couldn't have cared less. . . . I have searched my digital pix to find the one of my cat in the refrigerator; can't find it yet but it's a good photo. I was cleaning out the fridge, turned around, & there he was on the bottom shelf, enjoying his personal a/c! Here's our big cat being loved on by my DD:

161

Same cat used to attack my the stuffed beaver that my parents brought from a trip to Michigan. He used to carry it around the house by the neck:

163

And he helps us prepare for Thanksgiving, as we pull out (& wash!) our platter:

162

KristiB, I think you're right--my kitty is probably a Maine Coon like yours. He is very quiet, too. His purr is quiet, and he doesn't meow, really; it's more like "bbbbbbrrrow?" or a rousing "mow-WOW!" when he wants out. Or wet food. Or in. :D

EllenL

Everyone's cats are either adorable or gorgeous (and some are both!). Sorry I have no way of posting, but please try to picture Tang in your mind: orange and white tabby, somewhat Maine coone looking, big round eyes, and 25 pounds. Not proud/happy about his weight, but he has made it to almost 14 years!

Because Tang is getting up there in years, we try to prepare ourselves for eventually needing a new cat. We love dogs too and wonder if we should get one now that we've retired and have the time to properly take care of one, but I think these pictures convinced me (and DH) that we have to have a cat in our house for it to be a home! We thought we didn't like cats until Tang adopted us when we were 40---slow bloomers, but very fast learners!

Some of the photos are a riot, with the positions and the things that cats get into. On another site I go onto, people post "cat loaf" positions, where the cat has all four legs tucked beneath, looking like a furry meat loaf (especially the bigger cats). I also enjoyed the photos of seeing cats as kittens and what they grow into, like Mookie.

Keep those pictures coming!

Just like having a toddler, eh? I can so relate. Now Dax will headbutt the door and reach his paws waaaaaay in under the door, but he doesn't cry until you go outside without him. Sometimes he'll go "on safari" in our back yard, and he'll g out so far and then call to DH to go stalking prey with him. It's a scream.

"Hi Everybody! I've attached a picture of XXX's cat, Tumtum. He's

Thanks everybody for taking the time to give this some thought.

Robyn, I think my Ziggy might be part Mau. He's very dog like. He eats almost anything, and I thought that was because he was feral for such a long time. He does love to fetch, and he is constantly kneading his paws and singing to us. He has the most gorgeous green eyes, and he has spots on his tummy, and a few on his back. He's a huge cat--20lbs, but he's lean. Very short, silky coat.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1332/538250377_911b2d3fdf_m.jpg

Gris has a coat that feels like rabbit fur. This is her usual spot on our sofa.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1345/538250341_92f1890997_m.jpg

Macavity is part Bengal. He has the characteristics and coat of a bengal. He's our original cat--a stray kitten that crawled into DH's car engine and rode 10 miles down the interstate to work. DH got him out when someone noticed a banded tail sticking out from the wheel well.

All 3 of my kitties are rescues. They definitely won the cat lottery, especially Ziggy. His first owner died, and he escaped when the cat rescue group tried to take him to a foster home. We found him at Petsmart where the cat rescue was trying to adopt him out. He fits in wonderfully with us.

Here are my three "girls"

Mizzie (aka "Twit")
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb223/LittleBrownCat_2007/tn_IMG_0002.jpg

Mollie (aka "Pig"), Mizzie's sister (littermate) who weighs twice as much:
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb223/LittleBrownCat_2007/tn_IMG_1448.jpg

And our older cat, Bonnie (aka "Fuzzbutt"):

Bonnie and Mizzie together:

Bonnie came from the local shelter, Mizzie and Mollie from a local feline rescue. All three of them are TCB's, which stands for Tri Color B!tch. Calicoes and tortoiseshells are well known for having attitudes (they're also 99% female--coincidence? :p ). My girls can all be sweet and loving when they want, but yes, they all can be quite b!tchy too (each in her own way). You just have to learn to do things on their terms.

Hi - your aunt's "mini" schnauzer looks like a Westie (West Highland White Terrier) to me! Never saw a white Schnauzer - are you sure that's what he is?

I think he's silver/grey it's just the way the light is reflecting. :)

We adopted two kitten from the shelter a little over a week ago.

This is Vegas

This is Lucky. She was rescued from some kids who were tossing kittens in the creek. She was saved along with the other 6 of her littermates. She was the last on left at the shelter.

And this is thier very unhappy older sister, Sweet Pea. She hasn't really warmed up to two playful furballs in her house, so we're still dealing with lots of hissing and growling.

I really must stop looking at these pics. I have cat fever now. And I'm super allergic. Dh and I looked at the rescue kitties the other day. All I did was touch the nose of one and I got all blocked up. Wah. I'm so jealous.

Yeah, Sweet Pea's eyes always glow in pictures.

And here she is a few months ago on moving day. I cracked up when I noticed her eyes actually reflected off the floor.
