Lisa,

Check out responses under Medford, NJ. There are a few of us that are trying to develop a club starting late summer. I'm sure you could join in when you are available.

Anyone out there interested in a supper club, beginning in the fall of 2000 or later, in Princeton area?

Let us know!

Sounds great! I live in Levittown, PA, but work in Princeton so it wouldn't be a problem. Please let me know if you need any help organizing it.

Jane,
We're still working on it. Waiting to hear from a few other people in the Princeton Area. I'll keep you posted.

Hi, I am in Englishtown and would like to jump on board, too. Please keep me posted. Thanks.

Great to see all the responses! I'd love to do this now, but am really unable to proceed any further until after I move (within Princeton area still) and get married. I'm looking at late September... then I can act and coordinate details...

Sorry I can't do more until then!

Okay, Lisa, if by chance we get something started before then, we'll let you know. If anyone would like to e-mail me, maybe we can set something up for August.

Hi all! I have not dropped off the face of the earth, just really busy! It seems to me that we have at least 6 interested parties - Stacey, Lisa, Barbara, Jane, Karen and myself. As with Lisa, my future husband (we are getting married in February) is intersted as well. Since time is passing quickly and July/August can be heavy vacation times for people, how would everyone feel about actually setting up a firm date and location for fourth weekend in September - 9/23 or 24? Looking forward to hearing from everyone soon and getting things set!

I'm doing the unthinkable and replying without double-checking, but I love the idea of a tentative date and the evening of the 23rd would work as a possibility for us.

So Lisa, since you responded back first and the 23rd looks doable, let's go for the 23rd which is a Saturday night! What does everyone else think of that?!

You're on (on our end, most probably). We can talk details later?

Hi All, Let's come up with a place to meet. I will check with hubby and see if we/he are/is available on that date. Are we all couples? Keep me posted. Thanks and looking forward to it!!

The 23rd of September is looking like a go, so far! We still need to hear from Stacey, Barbara and Jane. Myself, Karen and Lisa are couples, but I'm not sure about the others. As the date gets closer we can discuss the details. I was thinking that for our first meeting, it might be easier if each person made a component of the meal in their own home and then bring it to the dinner. Just an idea! Any thoughts?

I like that idea. In all honesty, B and I won't be able to do a lot that weekend and bringing a dish is VERY doable.

Hi all...
I'm from Yardley, PA and posted a inquiry myself about starting a club. I'm interested in doing so and Princeton/Hopewell/Pennington/Lawrenceville etc. is feasible for me but I'm not sure where the other's are from. If my Yardley one doesn't get off the ground my husband and I would love to join. Sept 23rd, so far is ok (my 35th b-day is the 26th so plans could change!).
Let me know...also are you all interested in wine/beer tasting as well??? My husband is a homebrewer and we love trying new wine.

It looks like you generated a lot of interest. I live in Hamilton, and was thinking of starting a group on my own, but you beet me to it.
I'm currently on assignment in Italy, but upon my return to Hamilton, I would like to join your group (if you still have room). Please keep me in mind. Ciao, Jim

Hi Maureen! I'm glad to hear you and your husband would like to join us on the 23rd. A Wine/Beer tasting at the dinner sounds terrific! My fiance and I also love to try new wines (we are hardly connoiseurs, but love wine none the less!) As far as location, I am not sure exactly where everyone is from. We live in Plainsboro.

Jim,
I am also glad to hear your interested in the Princeton group! Check the board for updates while you are in Italy, but so far it looks like we will be on for Sept. 23rd!

It seems I posted just a minute after you, Maureen! Since the date is pretty far off - how does the 30th of September work for everyone else who is interested - Lisa, Jim, Karen, Jane, Stacey?

30th would probably be better in hindsight for B and me... We won't be able to definitely commit until after all the wedding hoopla and stuff...but 30th fares better winds of succeeding...

Laurie! Fancy meeting you here! I am moving to King of Prussia, PA and was checking out supper clubs in the area. Sounds like you've got quite a lot of interest. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sorry, everybody. I didn't drop off the face of the earth either, just in Alabama for a week watching my niece and nephew. I could do the 23rd, but the 30th would be sooo much better for me. My stepsister is getting married on the 22nd, and I'm pretty sure I have a christening on the 24th. My boyfriend would probably be interested too, since it seems that we can make this a couples thing. I check every day, so please keep me posted!

Just out of curiosity, the magazine suggests that the first time we meet that it be at a restaurant, instead of jumping right into "cooking light". Any thoughts on this?

lisah
07-25-2000, 09:10 AM
I think a restaurant is a great idea...though we should probably set up a reservation where ever we decide to do it...probably a big party regardless. Sounds like the 30th is better, too, for people in general. Glad to hear that. Restaurant ideas for a big group?

lbudis
07-25-2000, 12:29 PM
Hi all! I'm so glad to hear the 30th is the better day - we just found out we have theater tickets for the 23rd. I love the restaurant idea! Where is everyone located, so that we can determine a central meeting point? The first thing that comes to mind for me is Triumphs in downtown Princeton. Any thoughts?

Laurie

StaceyGlynn
07-25-2000, 01:00 PM
I never heard of Triumphs - what kind of food is it (not picky, just curious). Also, what price range, just for everyone's info. Anyway, I'm easy. It isn't real close for me, but that's okay.

lbudis
07-27-2000, 12:19 PM
Stacey - where are you from? Triumphs is a brew pub in Princeton but they have a menu that spans from pub burgers to pumpkin ravioli to Chilean Sea Bass (my favorite) to wild boar! Entrees run about $12-15. It's just a thought. Perhaps you or others have suggestions - I'm always game to try a new place!

Laurie

StaceyGlynn

Sounds like a great place! I live in Bristol Borough, so I'm not sure how long it will take me to get to downtown Princeton. Probably a half hour at least, maybe a little more like 40 minutes. In any case, I'm in. Just waiting for the final details.

Hey everyone! It's great to see all these responses. Any weekend in September is fine and the Triumph is a great place. Keep me posted, and please let me know if you need any help organizing

lisah

Okay! I just spoke with Roxanne at Triumph Brew Pub and for a group of (possibly) over 10 people, she agreed a reservation would be best...but they don't take reservations on Friday or Saturday nights. Most places in Princeton don't, unfortunately. Sunday night, October 1st, however, we *could* have a reservation there. Any possibility of aiming for 6:30 p.m., Sunday night October 1st, Triumph Brew Pub...enter and ask for the "cooking light" table?
(It'd be a bummer if Brian and I haven't recovered from the wedding hoopla by then, so aren't there, but I don't mind setting up the details here on this end.) Until August 24th, I can be reached and keep a tally of who's able and coming. Contact me at "lisa.hess@ptsem.edu" or post a reply here!

08-02-2000, 08:21 PM
Oct. 1st so far is good for us..we'll be there..well "we" will be there if we can get a baby sitter...my family use to be my sitters by they've moved away..how dare they! So hopefully by then we'll be able to get someone..we have 3 children - 8 months, 2yrs 2mths, and 8 yrs so it's a bit harder to find someone. But in any case I'll be there!

StaceyGlynn
08-03-2000, 07:26 AM
So is everything on - meaning, is the reservation set? If so, Alex & I will be there on October 1st!

lisah
08-03-2000, 07:29 AM
Once we get a "quorum" of sorts, I'll confirm the reservation with Roxanne. She said even the week before would be fine, so I'll tally and then confirm it around mid-September. Anyone who's interested, reply here and I'll count you (and partner, if desired) in!

This is GREAT! Eric & I will be there on October 1st. We are looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for taking the lead and actually get us all organized Lisa!

Anyone still interested in a Bucks County group? I haven't checked the board for a while, so I don't know if there is still any interest out there.

I live in Lower Bucks, but I am pretty close to Princeton, so I am just going to join this one.

Is there room for one more? I live in Shamong NJ and would love to join in the fun!

LauraN
08-20-2000, 07:34 PM
Great!!! Are you still planning on getting together on Oct 1st. I will be away on vacation, so I would be unable to make it. Shamong is about one hour south of Princeton, next to Medford. I am very excited to meet all of you.

lisah
08-20-2000, 11:30 PM
There's always room for one more...I've tallied you into the Triumph Brewery number!
L.(and B)
(Where IS Shamong? I've not heard of it...)

lisah
08-21-2000, 08:47 AM
Yes, the plan is to get together at Triumph's Brew Pub at 6:30 p.m. on October 1st (that week I'll call in the reservation with the final number of people). And I should probably specify that if over 15 gather, we may set up a loosely organized, two-group structure of some sort...having 15 people over for dinner on a regular basis might be too much for some. Y'all come and we'll figure it out amidst the quorum!
L.
(and Laura, we'll keep an initial listing so you will know what happens...)

StaceyGlynn
08-22-2000, 12:19 PM
Oh - I always have 15 people over for dinner. Seriously, I have a decent sized kitchen, but I really could only have four couples tops, so spliting up is a good idea.

lisah
08-22-2000, 12:41 PM
Okay, Stacey...why don't you be the more official "point person" for this sort of club then. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif We can gain from your experience--or at least I know that B and I could. We're a much more "smaller gathering" sort of host/hostess. Looking forward to it...
L.

Hi All! Do we really have 15 people interested in the supper club in Princeton? That's an amazing response! I have to agree with splitting up the group if everyone is still interested come our October date at Triumphs. We live in a townhouse and could not accommodate more than four couples at once. Looking forward to meeting you all soon - my how the summer has whizzed by!

Laurie

StaceyGlynn
08-23-2000, 07:55 AM
Lisa-I was totally kidding. I really could not fit more than 4 couples in my kitchen - and that is pushing it. As much as I love to entertain, it has been a long time since I have done so. As far as taking over, besides a full time job, I am going to be in school three nights a week, so I will not have much free time. I think you have done a great job organizing this! Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.

lisah
08-23-2000, 11:19 PM
Stacey...no, not a wrong impression and I'm not talking about logistical stuff or anything. Mostly just "how-to's" and expertise like that. I know your anxiety about time too from my own events. Not to worry. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

As of yet, there are nine folk interested, eight able to come on Oct. 1st.

I just spoke with Triumph Brew Pub and as of now, we have a reservation for 8-10 people under the "Cooking Light Supper Club" for this Sunday, October 1st, at 6:30 p.m. The folk I had listed from these responses are Stacey and Alex, Maureen plus hopeful spouse, Jane, Lisa and Brian, and Laurie and Eric. If there are others, post a reply here and I'll up the number! I presumptuously asked for "non-smoking" for this get-together as that is my preference; apologies if that crunches someone's toes... Look forward to seeing you all there!

Hello all! The time at Triumph was a good deal of fun. Others can contribute their own insights, but conversation varied from cooking to Europe to work to family etc. Brian and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The 'club' didn't feel a 'go' with just four people and so we're kind of in limbo land right now. If anyone would like to organize another get together, B and I would listen. Our months of October and November are full enough that we don't want to host or push ahead... So it's up to y'all out there. Anyone interested in pursuing a November/December gathering? Let us know here!

I am still interested in getting together. My mother has had some health problems, and I have a 10 year old brother, so I need to be there when needed. Please let me know what is happening, or what I can do to help.

LauraN

I am still interested and hope I can make the next meeting. Nov/Dec sounds good to me. It sounds like most husbands are included. Does that mean that they will be cooking also? My husband is interested but not that great of a cook. Talk soon.
