He died today of leukemia. (http://www.cp.org/english/online/OnlineFullStory.aspx?filename=e062731A&newsitemid=12088015&languageid=1)

William Hutt was one of the greatest contemporary Shakespearean actors -- and Canadian -- and anyone who's been to Ontario's Stratford Festival probably remembers him. He was an incredible performer (and according to my friend who lives in Stratford, a really sweet man).

They don't come like that any more.

How very sad. During the final season of slings and arrows he played a actor dying of cancer, who's last wish was to perform McBeth. He was excellent. As was the show.

I read this quickly and thought it said William Hurt! Glad to see it wasn't him (not that I liked him all that much in The Good Shepherd, which I just saw). Sounds like William Hutt was a wonderful actor---the likes of which may not be duplicated by current/future generations of actors.
