Just curious to see if any of you are going to check out the movie Ratatouille?
Our SC is going to do a dinner and a movie tomorrow so that is what we'll be going to see after dinner. I am taking DD since she is considered a member of the club too ;) Its gotten good reviews and I am looking forward to seeing what Pixar has to dish up! I'll give a review on Monday...no spoilers though!

Yes! I'm looking forward to this one...because of the food part and because we used to have pet rats. I'll probably bring the kids to a matinee sometime next week.:D

Tonight!

The animators took cooking lessons so they could get everything right.

They also had esteemed chafs(Thomas Keller, Feran Adria) as consultants.

Rats rock! I read a book call rats and they're actually fussy eaters. Highly intelligent too!

I've never seen a wild rat-just ones in cages and in high school biology on my dissection tray.

I can't wait to see this movie! It's been getting lots of critical acclaim.

DBF wants to go tomorrow, I want to wait til the crowds die down.

There were actually two stories about it on the front page of the SF Chronicle yesterday, so I know the crowds are going to be insane!

I'm going tonight. One of my friends and I are taking our 4-yo boys.

Hey Kristine -- what show are you going to? Maybe I will see you there.
We are going to the 6:30 show at the Harkins at 101/Scottsdale.

We are going tonight. The reviewer on www.Boston.com really liked it. He said at the end of the review that he was going to go home and replace the Velveeta in his mouse trap with gruyere! :D

I can't wait!! I probably will have to restrain myself and wait for Netflix to get it (though I've been mentioning it so much that DH might just give in and splurge on a movie date!). All the reviews I've seen and heard so far have been excellent.

Can't wait.

Can't wait to see it! My DD pointed out the reviews to me; it's cute that she considers herself a budding foodie. Looks wonderful!

At last, a family movie that doesn't rely on potty humor, bratty kids + clueless parents, animals escaping from somewhere--or penguins. ;) :D

Oh "cheese" - four feature articles on this movie in the Chronicle in two days! I'd forgotten there were two on Wednesday as well :p .

Love the advisory at the end of the actual review:

-- Advisory: This film contains cartoon violence, characters in peril and more health code violations than a Krusty Burger franchise in Hamelin.

I also liked this little tidbit:
To pay homage to the cooking profession, the filmmakers used Keller's voice for the role of a restaurant patron. The French version of the movie has chef Guy Savoy playing the part; the Spanish one substitutes the voice of El Bulli chef Ferran Adria. In the British version, "The Naked Chef" Jamie Oliver has a cameo as the restaurant inspector.

We have been waiting for this movie to come out so we can take our 5 year old to see at at the local drive-in theater. It will be his first drive-in movie and we are all really looking forward to it. I can't remember the last time I have been so excited to see an animated movie.

Can't wait to see it. The Chicago Tribune reviewed it and said it was definitely more for adults than children.

I saw it tonight, but I won't give anything away. We all enjoyed it (11, nearly 14, DH and I) and got the feeling everyone else did too.

That was until DS fell on a wet floor outside the restroom and we wound up taking a trip to the ER. That kind of wipes your memory of a lot of details. I would have rather left talking about the movie, but I'm glad he seemed to check out okay. Gave me a bit of a scare.

I'll try to remember more of the movie tomorrow -- or get them to let us see it again.

Eek! Hope he's ok!

I can't wait to see this...it'll be at least a week or two before I'm able to though!

He'll love the drive-in! We have one locally and our 4-yo DD loves to go and sit outside the car in lawn chairs.

We're taking her tomorrow to a matinee (not to the drive-in this time, though).

I think you are right. The novelty of the drive-in will make up for it even if he doesn't enjoy the movie. :)

DS if fine. Sorry about the dliffhanger -- I came to the computer last night to unwind and was about to fall asleeep in front of it. It worked!

They had just mopped a coke spill in front of the bathroom -- apparently with dirty water from the popcorn area. Grease, dirt water and tile. Deadly combination. It was so slick that when I went on my knees to check onmy son, my knee slid out from under me. He fought our restraint to get up and get into the bathroom (where he was headed after waiting for the end of the movie --we all know that story) and threw up twice in there. He said he didn't hit his head, but I wasn't so sure and was worried about a concusion. He also said his wrist felt like it did when he broke it about 3 years ago. Xray was clear and he's probably going to be pretty sore today. He has a training hike early tomorrow morning and is supposed to march inthe July 4th parade. He's still sleeping, so we'll take those as they come. He goes to Philmont for 10 days of backpacking and rock climbing in 3 weeks, and that's his greatest concern right now.

To make the evening even more memorable, I tripped over a bump in the parking area on the way to the car and did a splat on the asphalt. My leg is scraped up, and I hurt my wrist, but the main thing is that is made my neck and shoulders pretty angry. But I have my drugs, and I know how to use 'em. Yeserday was a strange day -- was it the full moon?

Back on subect, DH and I were talking about the movie this morning. We both liked it and thought it was well-done, but I don't knowthat it will have the blockbuster appeal of Toy Story and the others. I think rats in the kitchen requie just a little more suspended reality than toys playing on their own. But it is fun and enjoyable. The theater was mostly kids with some paretns and some teens. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Lots of laughing and response -- DH says clapping, although we both agree that we don't remember about half of it and probably need to see it again -- and exit the back way. Where the carpet is. ;)

Loved the movie!!! Loved it!

The animation was fantastic!!

I loved the "ratatouille" scene!

I was a little annoyed that Linguini called rosemary a spice but I guess that showed that he was not a cook/chef and needed Remy to help him. But I still thought, "IT'S AN HERB!!" :p

We stayed for all the credits. Thomas Keller was one of the consultants

DS (age 13) went and saw it yesterday with a couple neighbor kids. He said it was good, he liked it, and it made him want to learn to cook! :)
He said it made cooking look fun. Awesome! ;)

I'll probably see it when they release it on DVD. I rarely go see movies in the theater anymore; like maybe once or twice a year.

If this was the spaceship thing - this also gave everyone in the theater we went to a good chuckle!

We saw it yesterday and LOVED it! I'd go back and pay full price to see it again. The little short movie was wonderful, too.

My kids were hysterical with the short before the movie too.

I talked to DH about how my memory of the movie was cut short by the events that followed. We agreed that we want to see it again. It'a a good excuse anyway. ;)

Bravo, Bravo! The movie was fantastic! It exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed it and I thought at times (especially towards the ending) it was hilarious. We ended up seeing it twice and was surprised how long it was (1 hour and 50 minutes) but it was truly worth it. I love how they stayed true to the food too, it actually looked really good as well and tasty!
I did read a review by a parent who was bothered by the shot gun scene and the dead rats displayed in the window, so I was prepared for that. It did not scare DD and I don't think something like that ruined the movie, IMHO.

I agree, the short, LIFTED, was also funny, especially the window crack scene!!!

You do? :D I have seen rats/mice (evidence) in restaurant kitchens where I've worked however I have never seen toys playing on their own! :D

My favorite part was when the rats tried to hide in the kitchen. I also didn't realize it was so long - it kept us well entertained!

We took our 4-yo DD to see it yesterday, and we all enjoyed it. I loved it when the critic was tasting the dish prepared for him.

During the previews there was a trailer for a movie called "No Reservations" starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, in which she's a chef and gets custody of her niece after the mom dies. It looked like it might be another good one highlighting food. Anyone know anything about it?

It's a remake of a fantastic German film called Mostly Martha

I really liked the original so I'll only see the remake if it gets positive reviews.

Beth- hope you and your son heal up quick! What a rough day!

That's the second or third time I've seen the trailer for No Reservations. I plan on seeing that one too.

Gracie, perhaps I should have said having rats "working in the kitchen." I never saw my toys playing on their own, but I imagined the possibility -- and that was the whole thing -- people never saw them come to life. :D

I don't know if the creative folks at Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks have the best jobs or the worst jobs. I guess it all depends on whetehr you have a good idea working or need a new one. ;)

Took my two grandsons to see the movie yesterday and they enjoyed it. It was a bit too long for Grandma though. I did like how they taught some good moral lessons. Before the movie began the "short" had the crowd giggling.

I just got home from Ratatouille. Aside from the movie story-line which was cute ... the animation was very well done!
