Over 21 inches of rain in 3 days! - We had neither electrical power nor water for over 36 hours.

We lost electrical power at 1:30 am Saturday. Power was restored about 3:15 this afternoon, but the water and electric plants may soon become flooded again, from more expected rain and the fact that water is to be released from a dam upstream. Many roads are still blocked because of low area flash-flood warnings..

Old habits die hard! I intended to go to the store yesterday morning. I hopped in the car and pressed the garage door opener! :o I was so proud of myself for remembering to put the flashlight on my nightstand. When I needed it - the batteries were run-down!

When I went to the grocery store late yesterday afternoon: No deli; no produce, except potatoes; no eggs and milk, except a little cheese; no meat; no bread, except for hot dog buns; no freezer section. No lights, they handed you a pen and a piece of paper and said, "Write down prices." and sent a person with a flashlight to guide you around the store.

Mother Nature - Enough already!

Do I remember you are in north Texas? My son went to scout camp up in that general direction 3 years ago and they got 22-1/2 inches of rain in 2-1/2 days. You folks planning on doing this on a regular basis? ;)

We've had rain nearly everyday for over a month, but not that much most days. Hang in there.

Wow! That sound really unfortunate. I hope things get better for you soon. We could've used a little bit of that rain here. I guess mother nature has her ways.

I never get sick of rain, but I've never experienced anything near that crazy weather. And more important -- I've never lost power for 36 hours!

So it's that one single area of the US that's inundated, and the entire rest of country is in drought, right? How weird is that!

In Abilene, KS they "desperately need" at least 2" rain!

I just hear, from Kuwait, that the Verdigris river near here is at 52.4".

Nope. North and central Texas have been hit pretty hard too. We've been spared only because the rain has spread itself out enough over the area and let some areas dry out a little in between. This is reminding me a bit of the summer Tropicl Storm Allison hit though -- no hurricane, but the deadliest storm in our area in modern history because of flash flooding. The ground was already saturated and then this big, wet storm came in and dumped a ton of rain in a day or two. I'm starting to watch the Gulf. After that early activity, it's been quiet.

Isn't this the way weather usually goes though? One or two regions get too much while others get too little?

ADM and Cumulus, hope you get a dry out period soon. We're still getting daily rain -- just not as much. Try to stay dry.

I have! I tell you, it was no picnic. I also had hail damage to my car as a result of that storm.

I've often thought about that myself...why does there have to be such extremes? I know that we, too, could use rain...our lawns are kind of tan...

We have been very lucky so far!

We lost electrical power for eight, and in some cases more, days in a January ice storm about 4-5 years ago. That meant people had no heat and no way to cook, except for outdoor grilling (below 20 degrees). I still remember the incredible boredom of going to bed when it got dark about 6 pm, and not having anyone to talk to. Electrical workers came from many states to help restore our power.
