View Full Version : A Multipurpose Thread

I had several things I wanted to discuss today, so in the interest of time and space (but not the continuum) I decided to make a multipurpose thread. Feel free to use it to vent, ask a question, or otherwise say something that doesn't already have a thread devoted to it. I'll begin:
1) Is anyone keeping up with the Death Pool?
2) Does anyone know how many days of rain we got in North Texas in the past couple of months? If it was 40 days and 40 nights, I think I may faint.
3) Since January 1st, I've single-handedly killed 41 threads! Toppeth that! :D

Susan, you crack me up!
I was just wondering about the death pool the other day and wondering if we knew who was winning.
Well, at least your threads get responses, lately I've had a couple get very few. :o Eh, oh well.
I'll trade you some much needed rain for some 100 degree days with no a/c. I just got back from a 45 minute bike ride and it will take me an hour to cool down for sure.

I dunno but all that runoff water in North Texas is coming down the Red River causing it to rise near flood stage. This floating burger restaurant near where I live is closed because it is inaccessible by land.

That reminds me of the other thing I was going to say: After lo, those many days of rain and people b!tching about the weather, the sun shone brightly yesterday. So brightly that it was a hundred and freakin' four degrees! So. What shall we b!tch about today? :D :D

Well, let's see...
1- I don't think anyone is keeping up with the death pool and I do NOT want to volunteer. (That was me practicing saying NO for a change!)
2- I know that in Houston it rained 26 days in the month of June and pretty much everyday since July 1st. Also, Friday night it took me 45 minutes to go 3 miles because of the flooding and having to reroute so many times.
3- I can't top your thread kills...but perhaps I'll start a new trend by killing this one!

Nah, I'll save you Terri. :)
I have no idea how much rain Texas has had, but feel free to send some up here.
I miss Escher. I hear he was around while I was MIA though. No idea about the death pool, but I know I'm not winning. Rosie O'Donnell needs to croak for me to get to the top of the list. Although they way she's going I expect to hear about a major meltdown/heart attack any day now.

1. I am sorta keeping track of my own list, last time I checked I still had 22 among the living.
2. I knew Tx has been getting tons of rain, but 40 days and nights . I start checking to see if large quanties of lumber and animals werer missing :p
Phx has only gotten a total of 15 days the entire year. The last measureable amount was 4/22. :(
3. I thought I was the leader in thread killing ;) Guess I've got some posting to do :D
1) Not a death pool watcher.
2) I'm pretty sure we've had 40 days with rain since the middle of May. Actually, it started the last week or so -- just about the time the kids were having field days and outdoor activities for the end of school. After we went through so much to try to get some shade tents, of course.
However, we've had a few days without rain here -- sprinkled in so that there haven't been 40 continuous days. And some have been only days or only nights, so I don't think we're anywhere close to 40 days AND 40 nights.
Feel any better? I will as long as the Gulf is quiet while the land is so boggy. Even a tropical depression could cause major flooding right now. We'd already had a lot of rain when Allison hit. I don't want to see that again.
3) I know I kill my share, but I try not to count. At least a dozen ways to look at that anyway.
We had rain in the wee hours this morning, but it is clearer now than it has been for a while. We dcidn't break the trend today, but we're getting the heat too.

Just chiming in on the "how much rain have we had?" topic. The Austin paper ran an article this week, that although it may seem as though we are having the great flood, in fact, in Austin it only rained 14 or 16 (I can't remember which is the right number) days in June. Could have fooled me! It finally stopped raining yesterday and today it is in the high 90s! I guess our options in Austin this summer are wet or hot!!! I am not complaining though. At least we have AC. I talked to a friend in Idaho who said they were in the high 90s without AC!

Ummm, that would be me. It was 96 when I went grocery shopping yesterday afternoon and I don't have a/c.
Beth, it'll stop raining for ya now cause Mom left for China again this morning. ;)

I just looked at the death pool thread & it looks like stefania had volunteered to be in charge.
I also checked my list & it appears that every single person on my list is still alive & kicking!! That should count for something...

Get out the smelling salts...last count was 44 days!

Well the reason I do sometimes is if I have posted a recipe and then go back and edit to correct something I spelled wrong, I like to let people that might have copied the original know that the recipe is correct, it's just my lousy spelling that was wrong.:D

I can answer that one! (Or at least, how much has fallen). Click HERE (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/crnews/display_story.php?wfo=mkx&storyid=9146&source=0).
I like thread killers :p
We had a little more drizzsle this afternoon, but the thunder made it sound like other folks might have gotten a fair bit more. Funny thing it that whether we "officially" have rain recorded or not depends on whether it falls in one spot. I know that the days we didn't get rain, there were other parts of the area that did get a lot of rain.

Yes, stress releases cortisol and cortisol causes weight gain around the midsection.
LOL.
Relacore stops the release of cortisol.
And some other crap that the commercial says. God it's a good thing I watch too much tv.

Eeeee-yup! Usually "great recipe" finds, lol. I certainly don't take it personally, but yes - definitely has happened.
Why do some people actually fill in the Reason for Edit line?
LOL!
I have to agree that perhaps folks think it's required, that the edit won't "take" otherwise. It does rather suggest a "you'd darned well better have a good reason" tone. I think a series of check boxes would make it more helpful:
Reason for edit:
"Typo"
"Poor grammar"
"Missing word"
"Forgot to include recipe"
"Left out ingredient/step"
"And another thing!"
"Cooled my jets"
"I'm embarassed" and/or
"Feel like an idiot"
(And after all that, I sometimes write "ETA" even though I know it won't show as an "edit". I do that because I've seen posts change before my eyes. I might ask, "where's the "orange" in that "orange" chocolate frosting?" If the OP catches it and changes the recipe, I end up looking like a bufoon, because the "orange" is there in the "original" post. If you follow.)

I'm going to have to go look up the Death Pool thing. I don't know about it.
We went for months without rain, but the surest (is that even a word??) way to bring rain is to start going on vacation.:D
Bopeep, maybe there's another way to look at it. You haven't killed threads, you've won and gotten the last word. Once Bopeep speaks, there is no other reply that can top her. Just trying to make you feel better:D

I so wish your shop was nearby! I love some of the pieces you have online and want them! Alas, shipping the antique furniture would cost more than the piece I'm sure. :(
KristiB, I've done that with a number of threads. The only time I'm really hurt is when I'm asking for help, otherwise I figure it's other people loss if they're not interested in my post topic. By the way, thanks for replying to my Lionman thread, I'm sorry you don't get it but I'm seriously considering buying the DVDs of his website it was so good.

anyone know how to get a shy kitten to blossom??? My mom's kitten is here for a month and he just won't come to me and he does the same thing to my mother who's had him longer.
Treats don't work. RIght now he and Andy are sleeping together on the window ledge and my dogs are outside whining.
I hope that's not the way he's going to be -- purring and sweet (when you catch him) and shy and liking cats more than humans...sigh...

Jazz', the floating restaurant is back in business after being closed for a month due to flood waters.
I went there for some drinks this a.m. and had a good time. The first picture is the restaurant as it looks from land. The second picture is the indoor dining area. The third picture is the outdoor dining area. The last picture is the view from the outside dining area.
The inside is air conditioned and the outside has a huge fan.
