O.K. DS 9 1/2 wants to see this movie and I was just wondering, without giving too much away, if possible, why did it get a PG-13 rating. It usually says on IMDB, but it doesn't this time. I'm not a member of ScreentIt either, but it usually doesn't matter, because I usually am not looking up movies the week that the come out. It's a members only review this week, I think. Can anyone who has seen it help me out, or direct me to a site that tells about the rating for this particular movie?

From the IMAX website: PG-13:For sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images. I don't expect it to be any scarier than any of the first 4 movies.

It was probably the amount of violent acts because from the very beginning there are fightening scenes and images.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but the book itself is a lot darker than the earlier ones. Harry's much more of teenager than a kid, and he's an angru confused teen as well! There was a write up in USA Today this week called "Dark magic haunts Hogwarts" discussing this. (I tried to link below. There are probably some spoliers in the link if you haven't read the book.)

Thank you all. I think I will preview it before taking DS.

I heard a review of this movie on NPR yesterday. David Edelstein said it is NOT a family movie. Good idea to preveiw it before taking your son. I have no doubt, though, that most parents will NOT preview it before taking their children.

I've found the following website to be invaluable in terms of deciding whether or not a movie is appropriate for my kids:
www.kids-in-mind.com/
It gives a rating of 1 through 10 for violence, sex, and language and also states all of the incidences of each in the movie. That way you can make a more informed decision based on your own values and your kids' sensitivities.
