... anyone else likes the sounds of night in the summer? I like that the bugs make noise at night. It's a white noise to me and it doesn't bother me a bit. It gives me a sense of summertime and good memories. I know some people could do without the noise. I couldn't imagine life without it.

When I first moved to NC back in the winter I was shocked to hear bugs at night. In NJ it was a strictly summer sound. I consider it to be another perk to living in the south.

Yes, I know what you mean.

One sound I really like is the sound of crickets. My favourite summer sound, though (or in any event, it's a sound I associate with summer), is the sound of loons calling to one another at night. We only hear that when we go camping or somewhere else remote, though. There's something soulful and, I don't know, "peace-inspiring" about it.

LOVE the sounds of summer at night! SOO peaceful and soothing to me! We just came back from a weeklong trip to Northern Wisconsin, and there was NO sound whatsoever at night?? Nothing. Nada. Nichts. Nuttin. Our bedroom window was wide open and DH and I joked that maybe we were in a soundproof booth?? We heard no crickets, no bugs of any kind, no rustling of leaves, no nothing. Our ears were actually ringing from the silence. Very, very odd. I did sleep well, I will admit, and it was a pleasure to read at night in that silence, but I was glad to hear my crickets again when I got home! (Although I didn't miss the airplanes going overhead.... ).

One of the really nice things about our current house is the enormous tree line that forms the back of the property. The rhythmic droning of cicadas says "summer" to me and DH, and yet we hardly heard that at all in our old house b/c the trees were so young in the neighborhood. We also hear owls calling to each other, and see fireflies in our yard, and have dragonflies 5" across (it's pretty cool when the dragonflies are bigger than the hummingbirds!) . . . I don't like crickets b/c the sound keeps me up at night (haven't heard too many, which is great by me), but these other things really make it feel & sound like summertime.

Me too!! I love the sounds of the bugs - and I cherish the nights when I can sleep with the windows open. Unfortunately, those nights are probably over until September. :(

I love the sounds of summer as well. In addition to the bugs I have FABULOUS wind chime that my step-father got me that I love to hear blowing in the breeze. I always sleep with my windows open so I get to hear the symphony of sounds as it lulls me to sleep. :)

I love it! I love having the windows open at night. I love to hear the birds chirping early in the morning too....and the sounds of train whistles at night.:p

I love night sounds! There are some loons that fly over very early morning or right at dusk. Really cool. And I've always loved the sound of the trains off in the distance, Wooo! Wooo! There are two that I can hear when the wind is right. Sometimes late at night I can hear coyotes. And always the birds, bugs, neighbors dogs...

I'm always bummed come late fall, early winter when I have to close up the house. It seems so quiet to me.

Autumn and Spring are my favorites....Spring with the frogs and then everything comes to a crescendo in the Autumn. I don't live far enough south to enjoy it year round.

I thought I was the only one! :) I've also been known to stop awhile on summer night walks, and listen to the frogs near bodies of water. Best "music" I know!
