Not sure what I'm doing wrong but after I add new songs (purchased on iTunes or emusic) and I can see them in my Library on iTunes - when I try to sync - they don't make it to my iPod. Anyone know what I can do to get new music to sync?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Leslie,
It's my understanding that you have to create a playlist that includes those songs and add that to your iPod. I don't think you can sync via the library itself. I've created a smart playlist (under file) and have it include everything added after XYZ date. That does the trick for me to get all my new stuff copied over.
HTH.

I sync manually, by highlighting the song(s) I want to add, then dragging them to the iPod icon in the left column of iTunes. I've never had to create a playlist to add new songs.

Maybe your iPod is full?

Dumb question -- how can I tell if it's full? I just tried to drag new songs into iPod icon and it doesn't work.

With the ipod connected, highlight it on the left in iTunes (under Devices). At the bottom of what is the iPod screen, now on the right, on the bottom, it shows capacity, used space and available space.

Which model do you have?

ETA: if you're on a PC, you can also click on My Computer, highlight the iPod shown, right click, select Properties, and that will give you a pretty colored picture version of the space on it.

Bob - I've got the 80 gigabyte iPod and apparently have 61.10 gigs in free space - so that should not be a problem. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but no way can I get these new purchases to sync. Wonder if Apple has an 800 number with real people on it?

I had a similar problem recently and found that you have to make sure your iPod has the most recent updates. My niece had 3 songs that would not play and once I updated the software from the website (think it is version 7.3), I was able to sync with no problems. Hope this helps.

That's not it --- I have the latest version (7.3).

OK, with the iPod screen still open, click on the tab above that says Music. Is "synch" checked?

Also, look at the options you have checked. Is Manage Manually checked so you can drag and drop?

And are the songs checked? They won't go over if they're not.

Nope. I don't have the upgrade and I don't have any problems. The upgrades tend to cause me more grief than leaving things alone, and I really don't need the bells and whistles. I hate the latest version and wish I'd left it alone.

Thanks, Bob, it is checked. I think I just solved the problem --- I needed to add the eMusic.com folder to iTunes. Now that I've done that, the songs have synched. I'm new to eMusic - and didn't realize I had to do this after downloading music, because I could see the songs in my iTunes Library but they wouldn't sync to my iPod, if that makes sense.

I think I am all set - thanks everyone! You all are the best.

While on the subject of iPods - since I am a relative newbie - can anyone recommend any other good sources of music to download online - I use iTunes and eMusic and wonder if there are any others that you all like.

Thx,

Leslie

Glad you figured it out - I was stumped! :)

As far as downloading music, I pretty much only use eMusic. Their selection can be spotty, though, but I'm hoping it will get better as more people use it.
